email sent to both Imperio and Templars with the subject "Slowing PAL Down"
Templars / Imperio,
We understand that you see us as major competition, and are having your shot at taking us down. We believe that continued war on our continent is handing the game to PAL - they already have Education and are well on the way to an uncontested Liberalism, they have more cities than any other civ and still have space to expand.
Assuming that we cannot persuade you to conclude our war and ally against them, we would like to ask / propose the following:
Close Borders with Pal
They receive a substantial chunk of their income from Great-Lighthouse-fueled Intercontinental Trade Routes, without which their research levels may return towards the levels of the rest of us. You should be able to maintain your own Intercontinental routes with the cities of Rabbits and Bananas.
Ruff for TeamRB.Quote: "All Happiness is the release of internal pressure"

draft email to Imperio ...
Imperio,
Firstly, let me make it absolutely clear, Team RB is quite happy to grind through the current situation fighting both you and Templar to a short term standstill. There is no way that we see you making any progress towards actually taking any of our cities. The current death toll stands at 7-1 in our favour and the roads that you and Templar pillaged have already been repaired.
However, this situation will not win either of us (Team RB or Imperio) the game. Templar are a non issue regarding winning the game as they have no hope of winning, even if every other team feeds them techs. Thus, the balance of this email (and probably all future communication between us) will ignore Templar as a threat.
The way that Team RB sees the current game is that PAL is rolling towards a very easy victory - and that we are handing it to them on a plate. By the time our continental war is settled (one way or the other), PAL will be fielding infantry if not tanks and all of our battle hardened macemen or riflemen will not count for anything when PAL comes looking for us.
So, what is to be done?
I have been authorized to discuss ceasing this current war with you. You have earlier stated that us handing you Cape Town will get us a 10 turn peace deal. Frankly, the appropriate response to that is "You will have to take it from our dead, lifeless, hands". However, you have made an offer and it is up to us (Team RB and Imperio) to flesh out the range of peace offers that are facing us. I would request that this peace discussion does not automatically rule anything out - nothing, no matter what, no matter how stupid you think it sounds. I believe that we can craft a peace deal that will radically shake up this game as long as we can discuss the complete range of options.
For example:
Option 1
We give up all of our cities apart from the last one we settled for peace
Option 2
You give up all of your cities apart from the last one we settled for peace
Option 3
We both turn on Templar, split their land and then move on PAL
Option 4
We both give all of our cities to Templar
Obviously, I am not being serious about any of these options, rather - I am trying to illustrate that we should share the whole range of options open to us and, together, we should be able to fashion a peace deal that will dramatically improve our chances of winning this game.
Let the discussion commence.

I'm down with the first three paragraphs. I'd cut the rest and add the following:
Cape Town is a non-starter. It is our military pump and a most critical city. You feel it is "naturally" part of your territory. We disagree, but its a waste of time to argue the point. We leveraged our Creative trait to our benefit in the opening, surely you can't fault us for that.
In the interest of moving forward, we are willing to grant you some extra consideration from the Templars' existing lands. They've frankly forfeit any right to hold them with their poor play. We propose an immediate undeclared cease fire (as the current war gives good cover for negotiations) to begin the process of dividing the Templars' lands between us.
We feel our position is naturally stronger and frankly the only reason we are offering you such a bargain is that it would be a shame to see PAL run away with the game. Given that stopping PAL is our only objective, as part of this continental power sharing arrangement we require a trade embargo on PAL and any teams supporting PAL. In addition, to catch up with their tech lead we will need to coordinate research paths and enter into a tech sharing arrangement. This arrangement shall be in effect at least until such time as we have jointly re-taken the tech lead.

I see the most important step as starting to talk to Imperio. We haven't done that and (apparently) all of the other teams have. We need to start to talk so that we can discuss what each team wants. I don't see any point in discussing terms until we have started to talk.Quote: "All Happiness is the release of internal pressure"
