  • Following on from my post in the Crisis thread....

    Hi Imperio,

We would like to propose a 50 turn NAP from T120 that ends on T170.

We have noticed your military build-up. You will have seen our military increase as well. We have learnt important military technologies, and can now train Macemen. If you attack us, you will not win. We will not win either: in fact, we will both lose because we will get stuck in a 'stalemate'.

If you wish to expand, our scouts have identified strong sites on the other island. They are too far away for us to settle. If you agree to a 50 turn NAP, we will send you pictures of these sites.

We look forward to your answer.

    Best Regards

    Team RB
We'll have Machinery by the time we send this, of course. I know screenies of the sites is very generous, but if Imperio were to settle here then it would mess things up for both them and PAL.

    • What if Imperio agree to a 50 turn nap, then PAL agree to a mutual defence alliance, then imperio declare on PAL?

      • The key is in the timing: I've not proposed a military pact with PAL (in my draft), only that we'll consider it if they are also interested. We may have to choose one side or the other, but it's surely better to have that dilemma than to give up on Imperio completely.

        • I'd cut the NAP duration down to at most 40 turns. Considering that less than 15 turns ago things looked completely hopeless for us, I wouldn't be surprised if we are ready to attack in 30-40 turns, if we can get lucky with tech deals and Imperio keeps building military only half-heartedly.

EDIT: Unless of course you are proposing such a long NAP because you are planning to attack Templars first.

          • Slight change to add a deadline for their reply:

            • I like the idea, even if I don't think Imperio will go for it. Obviously if they accepted, we would focus on developing our civ futher and preparing to attack Templars sometime in the next 40 or so turns.

If we send this, we should definitely avoid hiding our military buildup at the Cape. I'll move the new horse archer back into the city then.

              • I'm fine with asking for a longer NAP by the way, for as long as the team decides.

                • I am not happy with sending them screenshots of the map, before we have Paper. That is consistent with communications we had with other teams in the past. I am actually not happy with sending them anything that will help them in any way. I don't think we are in such a weak position to have to buy a NAP with Imperio.

                  • We should probably rewrite the description slightly to avoid mention of sending screenshots. But otherwise, I disagree with mostly_harmless. Imperio has a pretty decent stack (see Rival Military thread for more info); I'm pretty sure we can stop them from taking Cape Town, but would it be worth the cost? A stagnant stalemate is by far the most likely outcome of a war with Imperio right now, just as Swiss says.

Imperio has longbows everywhere, and we don't have the units right now to punch through them. Better to remain at peace with them for the time being, because we're not going to run over them when it comes to a war. At the very least, we should try to secure an NAP. Best case scenario would be Imperio turning and attacking Templars instead, with us then getting to play kingmaker between the two.

I'd also give them a little longer to respond, Swiss. It's almost the start of T118 already. Maybe change it to the end of T121 instead?

                    • We've already exchanged screenshots with Templars, so I'm not sure if the point about not sending them to Imperio is valid.

The reason for the time pressure was to get a reply before T120. As we need to get something sent before Imperio does something rash like declaring war, how about:

                      • The screenshots we exchanged with Templars covered terrain that both teams had seen before, however this would be essentially offering Imperio free exploration - which I think is / should be out until Paper.

                        • I would be fine with sending Swiss' updated message.

We definitely need to achieve team consensus before sending out such a major proposal, however. What say the rest of you?
