Hey all, I'm currently having problems connecting to open wireless networks with my notebook, might be one of windows recent patches.

    Windows XP service pack 1.
    Patched to Feb 13, 2004

Observed behavior that's different prior to the Feb 13 patches:

    1. Must click on a checkbox about this is an unsecured network, blah blah blah.

    2. When the checkbox is clicked and connect occurs, wireless icon goes to un-adviable for a few seconds then goes to "one or more wireless networks are adviable"

    ----

Prior to Feb 13 patches wireless worked properly.

I do, see the top of page 4 post. I tried every trick offline I could do, the same problem still exists.

One additional symptom was that the wireless icon at home where two of my nieghbors have secure wireless networks it also shows as connected when it's not. (I don't know which ones, they are barely in range; I'm in a cul de sac.)

If someone knows which of these twenty something patches number I need to uninstall, it might help.

The other choice would be replace me. I can't very well play Civ III from either work or the library.

Ever tried to copy the saves to play at home, then copy them to send from other places? This should be easy enough for you, and not much slower for us anyway.

I know nothing about wireless LAN, sorry.

My notebook has no floopy drive. Just a CD/DVD burner.
                  No Burner at work.

Oh and I was never able on that notebook to get a flash memory card to work. (That card works on every other machine I've tried.)

Please, keep trying. It would be a shame to lose such a stubborn French leader.

                    • I also work at a place where we're absolutely not allowed to bring personal notebook computers in to work. In fact, it's technically against the rules to bring camara equipped cell phones in. At least they don't allow regular camaras either unlike the dilbert cartoon.

                      • Keep trying with that wireless LAN, I meant. We can wait a couple days, methinks.

                        • Yeah, get inventive. Maybe you can fix it. Ingenuity. Try for a few and then we can replace the French player.

I volunteer to stand in for him if needed. France is on her way out anyway.

On your way to double Spain? Good one.

                            • Thats right be a bit inventive, show some spirit. Just get one of those USB keyring thingys, download the save to it from a mate's PC. Slap, it in the notebook, play, then back to the mates place. (or the office). Or do what us other nerds do in such a situation and use dial-up...

As long as you still have the civ cd. And don't fill the new company notebook full of viruses and spyware trying to load a cracked version, you will be in front of me in my last dilema....

Besides, there is some serious arse whooping to do as we enter the lair of the facist beast.
