hmm..that could be a long road to Hoe...

    • Yes. The idea this time, is to find out how good or how bad Fascism is, and how it can be used. Obviously not much could be learned if the game was won long before Fascism. Therefore the restriction - no offensive wars earlier. You don't have to take a beating, you just can't go on an early rampage.

Yes, it is a bit more difficult than a normal game. The more fun in it, IMO. I guess I'm a masochist. Oh well.

There have been other courses too...

      • Playing, finally.

        Thoughts and actions:

        850 AD - taking a look...
        • We rock.
        • Workers on automation?
        • The grassland north of Trondheim can be irrigated. That's where the workers go (not automated anymore ).
        • Switch Barcelona to build Palace. It's not a useful city, never going to be, so putting FP there makes little sense. I'd rather rush the FP somewhere in (soon to be) former Persia. Remember, it's a huge map, so we still have fairly low corruption anyway.
        • Berserks need someone to back them up. Switch a couple cities to Pikemen. Spearmen can be upgraded. It's cheap, and we need Pikes, right?
        • Start moving Berserks into posiotion. Takes 3-4 to conquer a city. Some will get Pikes as defensive support, some cities will get a larger stack. One problem: we don't have units that can go inland.
        • Furs to Korea for 69gp.
        • Invention to Iroquis for Incense and 50gp.
        • Invention to Greece for 25gp and 27gpt.
        • Lower lux slider to 10%. Making 261gpt ~ 3 Berserks, or ~2 Berserks plus 3 Pikemen.
        • We ROCK.

        870 AD
        • We meet the Romans. Judging by city names, they got badly clobbered by the Celts. Give them Literature for 26gp.

        890 AD
        • Iron Working and Mathematics to India for Dyes.
        • Mathematics, Furs, 4gpt to Sumeria for Wines.
        • Lux slider to 0%. Making 338gpt.
        • Last portion of Archers to be upgraded next turn. Then it's onto those in Ta-Tu.
        • Gift MapMaking to the Zulu. They have 12 Silks...
        • Gift MapMaking to the Japanese. They have 12 Gems...

        900 AD
        • Persians tell us to beat it. We do... for now.
        • Start joining workers to cities, to make them size 12 fast. Not much to be done, so no reason to keep all those workers around. They can be (re)produced shortly before railroads come.
        • Dolphin Runner finds a large apparently unclaimed landmass north of the Romans. It's very close - just south of Scandinavia. Don't know about a short route, though.

        930 AD
        • Greece discovers Chivalry and starts Knights Templar.
        • Most Archers upgraded. Time to restart research. Slider to 70%, 6 turns to Gunpowder.
        • All Galleys in position. Yes, I mean position to attack.
        • Embassy with Egypt. Yes, I intend to bring Cleo (she's doing OCC ) to war with the Persians.
        • Pull all forces on Persian continent back to Ta-Tu. That's a huge standing army, which will hopefully get to kill most of those Immortals...

        The plan should be obvious:

        • 940 AD
          • Sparta (Greek) builds Sun Tzu's Art of War. That means we need Theology or Chivalry now, or else our 4-turns-to-wonder in Trondheim, will become a pile of wasted shields. But only Greece has those techs, and I'm not paying 100gpt to an AI in the Medieval Age, sorry. We just got ourselves a 462 shields Cathedral.
          • Looks like the Koreans decided to kill England. And they are doing good. Sending Iron, Furs, Monarchy and Feudalism to England for Republic, 35gp, 5gpt. Korea already has Feudalism, btw.
          • I need to vent , so I declare war on Persia.
          • Start clobbering the Persians (see pic below).

          • Well, it looks like my turn on this will be horribly boring ... Nice attack though. I wasn't expecting to be able to do QUITE this much on the first turn ... but then again, why else have Berserks?

                    • Shock tactics! I wanted some action, otherwise I'd wait, perhaps 5 turns. Then all Persian coastal cities would fall in a turn.

BTW, Berserks can kill an Immortal on a mountain quite easy.

                      960 AD
                      • Still clobbering the Vikings. Had to abandon one of the western cities though, because of lacking defenses (didn't bring Pikemen there ).
                      • Great Leader Healdfene emerges in one of the Breserk bands attacking Persepolis. Good - will rush the FP in this city, once it is conquered. [EDIT: It wasn't Persepolis. Oh well, still rushed FP. ]
                      • Many Immortals run to Persepolis to defend it. Good, they are easier to kill this way.

                      970 AD
                      • You guessed it, still clobbering the Persians. This time I checked where to go, and took SoZ away from them.
                      • The land mass near the Romans is a large island. Still completely unclaimed. Hint hint.

                      990 AD
                      • Some serious infrastructure has been erected during the Golden Age (that's it's main use, after all). Now cities are switching back to units, to send some reinforcements to our Berserks.
                      • Trade Philosophy, Horses and Furs to India for Dyes.
                      • Trade Currency and Furs to Sumeria for Wines.
                      • Trade Philosophy and Furs to the Zulu for Silks.
                      • Trade Invention to the Hittis for Spices.
                      • Trade Horses and Furs to Greece for Incense.
                      • Trade Engineering to the Celts for Theology. Switch Trondheim to Sistine Chael (as a prebuild, I think).
                      • Greece has Education and Printing Press already, but still lacks Gunpowder. We will have it next turn!
                      • Keep clobbering Persians. This time take a chokepoint city (Gordium) in the dead center of the formerly Persian continent. And rush the FP.

                      1000 AD
                      • Research Gunpowder.
                      • Trade Gunpowder to Greece for Education and 103gp.
                      • Greece has Music Theory, but doesn't have Astronomy yet.
                      • Trade Theology to the Iroquis for 115gp.
                      • Switch core cities to building Universities, trying to use the last turns of our Golden Age to speed them up.
                      • Keep clobbering the Persians. Now they are out of the Mongol Peninsula.

War goes on... but with a new leader.

Viking conquest in Persia, 1000 AD. FP is in Gordium.

Gosh, there was a zillion Immortals in the north. Good thing I waited until most Archers in Ta-Tu were upgraded to Berserks, or it would be a bloody mess.

Some Bersekrs were lost to counter-attacks. They need defenders badly.

Remember to use those Galleys to move troops - they are incredible.
