This little bit tells me all I need to know about you Mr. SunShine. Irregardless of Ming's admonition not to insult individuals I must at all costs tell you that if you were an egg and I was tasked to grade you I could only label you rotten.

    • Horsemen rush?

That's your achievement in Civ? in life?

Does the phrase "world game" ring any bells?
The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

      • If I play a MP game, I'm going to look for people who want to actually play the GAME, not try to win. I think Civ is as much a RPG as D&D is. You play the leader of your civ and interact with the leaders of the other civs. This has the potential to be great fun against another person.

Rushing is a tactic as far the whole game goes. And in real life, plenty of civs have done just that. Rushed. Think of the Mongols. In a game, its no fun to me.

EDIT: That's why I'll play on archipelego maps in MP.

And that's supposed to tell me what exactly? We have an editor there with a zillion different things we can change, how are we supposed to decide what is cheating and what is not? The makers of the game have told us if we don't like it, change it. So that brings up the question of what is cheating in MP? By the way dork, the egg thing was horrible.

I'm going to lunch. I'll depart by saying this tho:

Happy - I've got zero problems with competition. None.

I've got no problems with the fact that we have different ideas on what constitutes "fun" in a game. You like rushing. You get off on it. You think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

          Good for you!

Personally, I think rushing is linear and predictable. Been there done that. To death.

I'm glad you like it. Some folks don't.

You seem to think that if someone dislikes your pet trick makes us inferior. I think you're wrong. You are of course, entitled to your opinions, but *do* keep in mind that they are just that. Opinion.
Ok, fair enough. I guess I won't be seeing you in MP.

Thanks for the insight rookie. You remind me of the rooks in AOC that put "BF NO RUSH HIGH RESOURCES" in their games.

If you don't like the way the elite players play or the competitive aspect of upper level play, stick to your rookie games. Simple as that.

Say what you want, but when MP comes out you'll die to it. My achievement in life is running my own business and playing tennis for a top 5 school. So why don't you shut the **** up? Yes? No?

Ahh, I love a good arch map. Bigger focus on the naval and air aspects of the game (sadly neglected a bit, but with arch maps they have more importance).

So will you guys be playing mods or the regular game? If anyone wants to play mods, then I'll recommend my 1.29f mod. It's korn's Blitz Mod, with a few alterations, mainly to air and naval values, along with doubling all Attack/defense values. I'll put it up in the creation forum if anyone wants to check it out.

            • I think the way to go will be with default rules at first. Once you start with mods we'll narrow down those who can play. For example I'm working on my own 1.29 mod with bunches of new units, techs, and stats. If you wanted to play you'd need all the same unit files etc. It makes sense to me for us to suggest mods after playing a few games when we can put together enough like-minded people.

We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

By all means, HS, rush. I can't wait to see where it gets you come November. MP will be about large militaries, no doubt. But it will also be about diplomacy, and alliances. It's clear you have a thing or two to learn in this category of the game. This thread is quite memorable, and when MP comes out I'm sure Apolyton will have some tourneys. I guess you are telling us we already have a victor? Your ego is amazing considering the battle hasn't even started yet, but many men talk big with very (=very=) little to show for it.

And the egg slam was MAHvelous.

                    • But yes....that seems to be the rub. The gist of it is that some players like playing the game, and some like playing the numbers.

When I play, I AM the Germans, or the Romans, or....whoever I'm playing.

I'm not the guy in charge of the three cities with a 20% growth rate and an aggregate production of 14 shields per turn.

I optomize to a point, but I don't get anal about it. Mostly, I don't get anal about it cos I do it up to the limit of my fun threshold, and then I don't worry about it.

That's foolishly less than optimal, I realize. That would, no doubt, get me killed in an MP game with 1337's.....oh well. You can just SEE how much sleep I'm losing over that prospect, eh?

I would rather leave my attention focused on meaningful STRATEGY than strategy that revolves around playing the numbers game....stressing or breaking the (artificial) system to get the win.

I play the game, not the numbers.

                        • Thank ya, Trip!

Oh, I'll admit...from time to time (especially when I FIRST get a new game), I enjoy wrecking it. Ransacking it. Breaking the h*ll out of it. But that gets old very quickly, and what's left is exploring the subtlety that the game has to offer.

Rushing is a tried and true tactic that will win you many a game....if you don't mind essentially replaying the same game every time you fire up MP, cos that's what it's all about. If it IS all about the math (and it is) then it's the same, or nearly so, every single time. 2+2=4. It equalled four this morning, and it'll equal four tomorrow.

That's what rushing gets you in my book. It's ironclad, but OMG is it booooooring!
