  • Rivers are going to be so important in Civ3. More so than in Civ2. You don't have to build aqueducts to get the a pop 12. You can irrigate (ocean squares dont let you) and theres probably some sort of defense bonus if your on one side of the river and the enemy attacks across the river.

    • To defeat an army you need to kill all the units in that army, the great leader would mostly likely get killed btw
So, theres another choice. Keep him at home, or make an army with him and risk losing him. Needless to say, your probably gonna want to attach him to your most modern armies.

Patton for sure. Other possibilities: Eisenhower, Teddy Roosevelt, MacArthur, Grant, Sherman, Lee, Lafayette, Halsey, Shwartzkopf (sp?) , Andrew Jackson, Custer

          That would be good.

          • So that barbarian worker was probably something else before getting captured.
The defeated barbarian Cavalry has been defeated. Its troops, led of in chains, are formed into worker battalians. There sorry lives are now at your mercy, to work them and their descendants for the next 2000 years.

But you can only capture 0-attack strength units, so what barbarian unit would have zero-attack power, a catapult?

Good Point, early previews last spring mentioned Stonewall Jackson.

Posting a news item and finding it first are two different things. Besides, can there forums put up almost 150 posts discussing the preview in the hour or so since the preview was posted? (Cheers to MarkG and Dan)

You lose your great leader when you trade him for an army unit.

                              • Did anyone else notice the exact wording in the "Checking out the Library" screenshot:

"The civilization that builds the Great Library gets any Civilization Advance already discovered by two other known civilizations for free."

The bold italics are by me - this is a significant change to the functionality of the Great Library. Now it's not just any two civs, it's two civs that you've contacted. I think this an awesome change, far more realistic!

This preview has made my night. I think I'm going to read it through a couple more times and analyze all the screenshots again. And of course people are posting here faster than I can keep up!
Firaxis - please make an updated version of Colonization! That game was the best, even if it was a little un-PC.
