If the land routes are already established, its much easier to continue with railroad.
Ah, but the German lands aren't railroaded yet and moreover, even if they were, moving off the ship uses up our Caravans' movement points - thus leaving them undefended for a turn.

I completely agree with your tactic re: land routes once we have Corporation and the AI has RR - unlimited movement within the AI lands straight off the ship is pretty decent.

                • Luddite Confirmation Game

The year is 1560 and the first impression is stunning. When last at the helm, a struggling Republic was launched with 15 cities and 910k Population. Now I find a vast and thriving trade power with 27 cities and 14.89m Population. Hats off to my fellow rulers.

It takes a while to study this beast and devise a plan. It is decided that cash will be plentiful so the plan of SG[1] to focus on white goods is to continue, with two differences. Luxuries are bumped to generate more WLT-Monk-D growth; and extensive Xinning with two groups of five cities will get research to 5 turns.

Except in the deep boondocks with no naval support, camels are jumped to a full third line as soon as the second line gets shields. Then tickled to finish in no more than three additional turns. White goods build one turn then completed.

1570...Gift tech to Sue; Steam Engine --> Explosives

1580...Courthouse in Stephenson and Portsmouth; 100g, Hut; Persians announce overnight they have discovered Explosives.

1590...Swap Persians for Explosives --> RR; Courthouse in Cambridge; 244g Dye(d) (Canali--3 Forks); gift Explosives around

1600...Courthouse in Institute; 50g Hut; Tesla founded at (101, 103); 135g Gems(d) (Arkwright--Iron Duke) with "jiggling" to unblock supplies in both.

                  1610...Insist Germs vamoose; they do...Railroad --> Metallurgy

1620...Harbor in Institute; Sewer in Bee; Colosseum in Bessie; Marketplace in Kay; Temple in Banting; Darwin Started in Bridgewater and specialists reset to taxmen and stop Xinning. Also, postpone deliveries until Darwin complete to not waste the bonus.

1630...Insist Germs leave again and they do; Germans now a Republic--maybe they will chill; 50g Hut; Sewer in Rocket; Aquaduct in Jenner; harbor in Popiel

1640...Courthouse in Banting; Bank in Bee; Gift RR to all; Complete Darwins!! Should get Industrial second and have offered Corporation. Population now 18.75 million.

                  Comments and Cautions

                  1) I have reset Arkwright to Eins to pick up the back end of Darwins. I have Lux at 50% to squeeze one more into Bessie. I have not set anyone to Xin, thinking that should start again next turn.

                  2) I alternated two groups of five cities in the Xin:
Group A--Trev'k, Hargrev, Crompton, Bee, and Jenner
Group B--Bessie, Watt not, Huntsmen, Eye, Rocket
                  Other choices are possible, too.

3)The ship chain is broken up to deliver to further out ports. We need more boats.

                  4) the Sue are Icy.

I doubt I will see another turn. This has been fun.

Not to quibble, but, with Darwin's completed, it is effectively 5 techs, actually, 4.5, as SG[1] had half finished Steam. I was lucky in that the AI made a timely discovery of Explosives that I swapped for, telescoping the time for RR. Having Engineers/RR will really impact the game.

                            @La Fayette

Once we have The Corporation our delivery bonuses will ~ double. A decision to be made is whether to hold off or use the smaller delivery bonuses to achieve the Advance.

                              • I did enjoy it

LF looks around with help of costly binoculars and notices that:
                                - the Empire looks great , but:
                                - very few cities are still growing through WLTMonkD,
                                - few (15) engineers are at work, though we have a RR network to build,
                                - few (9) transports are sailing and no shipchain is active.

                                Therefore LF decides that:
                                - the 'science ' slider will be set at 30 lux, 70 tax (= end of growth),
                                - about 10 new engineers will be educated,
                                - about 10 new transports will be rushbuilt in our rusty shipyards,
                                - a nice shipchain will be established between Bee and Kells.

                                Short log:
1650AD: DARWIN provides Metallurgy + Industrialization

LF uses his costly binoculars again before retiring and notices that:
We should be able to maintain a rate of 1 tech/turn through rewarding deliveries around Kells...
but both Sioux and Celts dislike that and we are now at war with both of them ...
luckily we have discovered Steel: '7 moves' cruisers should be fun to use against Sioux ironclads and Celtic frigates
