          bamspeedy,

If you are lurking here (I know you do!), I have 2 questions:

          1. How did you get that much gold (7'000+) in the early MA?
          2. Did you research afterwards? At what speed?

          Thanks

          • Just so you know I have not given up on my game. I just got March madness. So I did not play the last two days.

            • Update:

Fighting frigates with gallies is starting to get me down. Never being able to scout or have sentries out for the lack of being able to be in sea/ocean tiles safely is brutal.

Hit GA in 1190AD when I hit the smal island north of me with UU.
Most of my island was covered, so it was not too bad, but despotic.

              • Captured the island around 1290AD.

I captured a Germany city with maybe 30 so units. That battle led to 2 MGL's.
Even a isloated CIv has massive numbers of units to fight through in their city.

Not so great to be Military civ this time. I got my first MGL in 1330AD. Made army with pikes to stop counter attackes.

Got second MGL and made army with muskets. I had muskets for the first one, but none were available.

Made peace right away to prevent them from over running before my units healed.

                • Now I am in fair position, if i can hammer out the rest of the island. I am not sure if I have enough on hand with some 30-40 units and two armies.

I am sending units from the main island with a 7 galley shuffle. I have a settler with me to drop a town for healing. I am thinking of just using 6-7 galleys with berserks to attack any coastal city as they cannot be counter attcked.

                  • I still don't know how to go about dealing with Russia as they have most of the wonders and are many techs ahead.
I got them to pay me for peace twice, but it was a few 100 gold each time, no tech.

Germany has no tech and are behind me, but that could change as the AI is moving around now. So soon all will have contact.

Russia had rifles last I knew. I would guess they have many hundreds of troops by this time.

                      • Started the grab for the island and it was both good and shocking. They send so many units, I counted 46 combats where they had three horses retreat with one HP and 43 killed. I lost 3 knights. Only 1 promotion? No MGL.

The two armies killed a bunch. They never got down to the beserks. I was glad they send them and I did not have to fight them in a city.

Now the bad news. They have a stack of spears next to the city (46 units), a stack in front of archers and spears (26 units).
Behind them 3 stacks of horses (18/20/16 units).
So 126 units stage outside my door. The other good thing is the city had a barracks so all units are healed.

                        • This island is about 6x9 tiles. I see 28 tiles and only one has a city, so that is what I call being productive. That is some bonus.

                            • Pretty much. It is very tedious watching scores of units toss themself at you.
