Well, I hope the Captain Jack unit didn't find that laser rifle
in the same place as the one he used to take out the two
fashion robots in the same episode!

As it happens, I have been making the SFX for each unit,
and have about 20 unit sounds already created, including
the Cybermen, Davros and various Dalek noises...!

Maybe Captain Jack's sound effect could be him hitting on each and every cast member he ever encounters .

Speaking of cast, I have another question about the cast you've assembled for this epic event. I see you've included the lovely Billie Piper as "Rose" as well as Captian Jack, the latest two in a long line of Doctor companions. How many other if any companions will be included? Will you be going all the way back to the 1st Doctor's grandaughter Susan Foreman?

Cool as it would be to include these classic characters, I can see it being a bit of a challenge to manage the different companions and the varrying doctors they'd appeared with.

        Good point!

The Rose/Captain Jack characters are one of the most
ambitious ideas from the series, and I am glad the BBC
included such modern concepts to the show...!

With so many companions to choose from, it was tough
to make a call on which ones to use...So I picked those
which I thought had the most impact in the show.

What I elect to do is have a companion appear with
the doctor every time he regenerates (unit killed).

This is the sidekicks I have decided to use...

        1st Doctor: Susan Foreman
        2nd Doctor: James McCrimmon
        3rd Doctor: Sarah Jane Smith
        4th Doctor: Romana
        5th Doctor: Vislor Turlough
        6th Doctor: K-9
        7th Doctor: Ace
        8th Doctor: 'Captain' Jack Harkness
        9th Doctor: Rose Tyler

Also appearing is the Brigadier, and Sarge Benton.

Sounds like a stellar lineup Curt if I may be so bold. Just the other night I caught an old Peter Davison episode with the Black Guardian, I'm guessing he won't have much to offer the story in this scenario.

Is there any chance of the friendly Raxacoricofallapatorians making an apperance? Specifically the Slitheen crime family? I'm sure they could think of a way to profit from the carnage that would be enflicted upon the earth in this scenario.

            Hah!

No Slitheen this time round, but maybe in a future installment!

There might be other unexpected aliens though!

              Various Dalek noises?

Yes, well, they do, of course, say so many things ...

              "Good morning"
              "Fancy a spot of tea?"
              "How about that weather?"
              "Have a nice day"

And there's something else too. I'm forgetting what it is exactly ...

For the Doctors companions you could possibly try combination units for those periods in which he had more than one?

ie: Susan/Ian/Barbara, Romana/K9 (although you might end up with several K9's if you go with this route I suppose) ...

You'd still have to skip various companions (Leela wouldn't go together with Romana very well) but you can't have everything ...

Yep - Dalek battledrones do have a rather limited vocabulary...!
But there will be quoted SFX from the series when certain events happen!

But to be truthful, most Dalek conversations do lead up
to homicidal rants and violence directed at everyone!

I guess that is the secret of their lovable appeal!

I will be keeping the companions as singular units, but
I think the ones I have picked are the most representative
of the series, but there will be always ones left out...

The object of the companions is to keep them alive, and
the Doctor will lose prestige points (gold) if he allows any
of them to die, and conversly, the enemies will gain extra
prestige for taking them out...But some companions can
                fight too, so watch out!

Now I see your talking about gaining and loosing points depending on whether or not these companions die. Are these objective points or are you going to feature your own scoring system of some sort?

Instead of cash, there will 'Prestige Points' which will be gained via events or improvements.

There will be precious little shield resources, except far from the main battle map, so buying
replacement troops and defences will be important. Also, most things will be rather expensive!
This will make sure that the player does not build a mega army of death-squad Dalek drones
or three hundred Sontaran warriors to dominate the game - If the player owns multiple maps
in the late game this might be acceptable, though!

As of now, I have the techs all added to rules file, with the proper tech icons ready,
and the improvement list added.I hope to make the events file soon too. I really want
to concentrate it on the various characters and battle actions.

My task at the moment is naming all the units and deciding on what unit stats to
settle on for them all. I am thinking of very high 'hitpoint' and 'firepower'
levels, this way, battles will not be instant but hang in the balance.

Also, if companions have high 'hitpoints' they will be more survivable,
and even if a Dalek dies trying to kill Romana or Rose, we can assume
these plucky girls escaped and the Dalek made a dumb mistake, like
allowing soppy Peter Davidson to hurl it from a window!!!

                    • One more (very important ) thing...
Please please please tell me that you're using the Mary Tamm (Dark haired and much cuter) version of Romana?

Lala Ward (the blonde one) just didn't measure up ...

                      • I really did like Lalla Ward, but you'll be pleased to know that the 1st Romana is the one I am using!

                        • Are you using file-swapping, Curt? Otherwise, I can't see just how you'll fit all these units in, even on a ToT units file (I remember how many sacrifices in terms of units I had to make for 'EotRS'). Maybe the number of units just looks larger than it actually is.

BTW, I know I haven't previously posted here, but the idea sounds incredible, and bold! I both watch Doctor Who as a kid, like Chris, on PBS out of the US (then, I think, the only network in all North America that carried it), as well as the new series in '05. I look forward to trying this one.

                          • Hi there, man!

Not to worry, the units are all in the file, as I always try to avoid multi-file scenarios...

But you know what it is like, you could always use a few more unit slots!!!

                            • Just how are you going about aquiring these sounds Curt? Are you downloading them from some database somewhere or are you producing them yourself somehow? Maybe using the audio tracks off of recorded episodes?

Just a curious inquiry. Also, the title is moving along quite well, the artwork behind it is about 50% done as it stands now.
