  • Oh I'm sure the title will be right along the lines of what your looking for.

Now I have a bit of somewhat half on half off topic question for you. Its part on topic because it deals with the creation of great ToT sci-fi graphics but part off topic because it doesn't involve Doctor Who.

Its about a small little space opera serial called "Star Wars". Now I remember you and I once disagreed Curt on how good Episode II was, I don't remember you giving any opinion on this forum on Episode III yet.

Still, have you ever given any thought/consideration to adding one or two unit graphics with a Star Wars theme in the ToT fairline/sibling style to your already stellar unit portfolio? Whether its the Emperor's shuttle in Episode VI or Nute Gunray from Episode I, an AT AT from Episode V or a clone trooper from Episode III, I'm sure they along with any subsequent mods would be put to great use on this forum.

    • While I deplore the new episodes, I still have love in my heart for the classic movies.

It would be cool to create (or upgrade) one of the SW scenarios with the new graphics...

Or even create a Empire-player scenario, where you have to conquer, rebuild and defend
a sector of planets, and have the classic events of the movies happen off screen...
That kind of thing would be very interesting...I always loved the baddies in SW far
      more than the floppy-haired goodies...

Two play as a Admiral in charge of a series of worlds, and
to have only limited resources to begin with would be fun.
And some good CIV-builder action could be had as you
turn a backwater into an Imperial outpost of worth.

Events in the greater universe or your growing power
could lead to the Rebels turning their attention to your
particular sector. Also you could be awarded extra TIEs
or ISDs for your actions...So many good design avenues!

      Imagine a Fairline Star Destroyer...Or TIE-Fighter...Drool!

Perhaps in 2006 I might have a crack at a SW scenario, maybe!

      • Well it sounds like you and I once again disagree on Episode III then, personally I think it was a good conclusion to the story and set the tone adequatly for Episode IV. Best of all, Jar Jar's contribution to the story was a single scene at the end with ZERO dialogue .

I totally agree with you though at the thought of a Fairline Star Destroyer or a Tie Fighter. Or better yet..... the operational but half built Death Star 2.0 from Episode VI.

There are just too many ideas for scenarios and how they could possibly play out when they're based on Star Wars. I mean you could similate Imperial expansion, Rebel raids on the Empire, the outter rim seiges of the Clone Wars. You could even make up small planetary scale scenario where rival crime gangs, Hutt's and smugglers vie for control of Tatooine.

Lets hope 2006 will see this breakthrough in Star Wars development for Civ II. For now.... on with Doctor Who!!!

        • I think we can both agree that the ground is still fertile for SW
development, and good things will be coming in 2006, I am sure!

Indeed, the Skaro map is coming along nicely!

                  • Brilliant Curt, simply brilliant. I have no doubt that it'll play as well as your others, and now I desperately need to find a cheap copy of ToT.

but not remembered where it was for my bookmarks!

Nice one - It will come in handy!

                          Just ... wow ...

That petrified jungle looks simply gorgeous.

Well, as long as one likes ones jungles all ... petrifiedey.

                          • I totally agree in regards to that petrified jungle, it sure sets the tone for a dark and living dead planet such as Skaro. Did you create those graphics yourself Curt? I also love the look of the transparent domed in irrigated terrain.

What with the scenario making, unit making, city making and now terrain making your becoming the quinessential renaissance man of the Civ II production universe.

Yep - The red terrain is Catfish's work, as his wonderful resource of GFX items
were perfect to creat the angry look of Skaro. The mountains were my own, as were
the colour tiled panels, the grey ones being favouredflights awesome Moria GFX...
The jungles, the domes and techie bits all came from ToT default GFX set, and while
many of the vanilla graphics suck slightly, there are very nice elements that are
brilliant for Sci-Fi scenarios. There are some CTP bits flung in there too.

                              • My pleasure Curt. Glad I could help.

I have already used some of the sounds from that site (such as using the Dr Who theme music when my computer loads windows - heh).

                                Here are a few extras:

A six part documetary on the Dr Who phenomenon (watchable on-line):

Main cbc website for Dr Who:

The NEW (and 10th) Dr Who is revealed (and yes filming is almost finished on a new season of Dr Who episodes):

                                The world of Dr Who:

The world's largest and longest-running annual Doctor Who convention, every February in Los Angeles

You have to wonder why there has never been a theatrical movie about Dr Who...
