  • Awe-inspiring stuff!

These will be useful for info-gathering and reference...

    PS
There was a TV movie with McGann, but I would love to see a big-budget
'Invasion of the Daleks' movie made with 21st century production values.

    • Well with what must be a very detailed story behind this very scenario Curt, I'd say you've already essentially written a good treatment for "Dalek Tyrany: The Movie". I know I'd go see a movie with the entire slate of Doctorregenerations, the Cybermen and Daleks, with locations that span the galaxy from battle scared Earth to the wastelands of Skaro.

So along with Bitterfrost, Soviet Steel and Vendetta this would make for a great summer blockbuster. Just keep Lucas a way from the project .

      • Heh - Given the great concepts from people like Harry and everyone here;
I think Lucas would be dealing out movie contracts to everyone!

Then Firaxis could sue him for stealing CIV2, and finance "Scenario League - The Movie!"

I agree - in capable hands a multi-movie deal (ala Lord of the Rings) on Dr Who would be great - especially the special effects.

Ya have to wonder why this hasn't been done yet considering that Dr Who is the longest running Sci-Fi series ever....

          • Hopefully someone is protecting it from Hollywood's worst tendencies. I'd hope to see something better than Dalek Trek: Revenge of the Teletubbies.

            • It would be awesome to have some decent Brit writers creating an intelligent
screenplay, with the elite of American CGI Spec-Effects masters do the visuals.

              *begin Davros-rant*

And it would have to be real Daleks, no crappy substitutes!
I want to see them being evil buggers, complete in their heartless cunning.

And no more crap of just a few of them glding along a corridor or street...
I would want nothing less than to see millions of pepper pots on the attack!

And no Lucas/Spielberg lame endings, no political correctness!
In short - The full Who-centric Sci-Fi treatment!!!

Chris 'Ecclesgone' would be good as the movie Doctor, with no frilly shirts or large hair!

              *end Davros-rant*

Hopefully the BBC will eventually see sense and allow the show to be seen in the USA,
to whip up some interest...! One day, there might be a new movie...But if the series
stays watchable, I am happy...As long as they Beeb brings back the Master!

              • Dr. Who would be ruined by big budget special effects, which in almost all cases are a substitute for a plot. Low budget special effects and a high level of plot development are the very essence of Dr. Who.

                • I would like to believe however Tech that it is in fact possible to have a good story while at the same time excellent special effects that don't serve as a substitute for plot.

It all depends on having a producer and director that are commited to the core story of Doctor Who. As I said, this is all indeed possible.

Maybe just not plausible with movies today.

                  • I think Tech has a point, but good SFX are needed in some areas
to make some aliens like the Daleks and Cybermen more convincing.

I cringe when I see the wobbly Daleks from the McCoy era!

Good story writing and implementation a 100% essential,
regardless of any good visuals, or lack there of.

                    • I think you should make a version of your scenario in black and white.

                      • Part of the charm of Dr Who for me are the dodgy sets and ridiculous alien costumes. Us kids of the '70's were easily pleased when it came to TV sci-fi. I remember going to see Star Wars for the first time at the cinema and being blown away by what was possible with SFX...

Heh - I am watching 'Genesis of the Daleks' DVD right now...!

It is wobbly but the story is awesome.

                            • A good movie will need a director who is committed to staying with the core heart of what makes Dr Who enjoyable....

A good story/script with CGI used sparingly...

And I think the movie will need to be centered around the Daleks...

Campyness should be kept to a minimum...

Some of the latest Dr Who shown on tv (made in 2005) showed that a good story, along with some CGI, is enjoyable to watch....

BTW, the new season of Dr Who episodes starts on Dec 25, 2005...

Also, it seems that the bbc is committed to putting the best Dr Who episodes on dvd.

What are some of the best episodes of Dr Who that are currently being sold?

Here is a list of some of the Dr Who dvds that have been released:

                              • Well said!

There are tons of good episodes and some really duff ones too.

                                Some classics include:

                                'The Celestial Toymaker'
                                'Evil of the Daleks'
                                'The Claws of Axos'
                                'Terror of the Autons'

In fact, you can read synopses on all the good (and silly) ones right here:
Anything from the series with the first two Doctors and the fourth are usually good.

When it comes to a series as varied as Who, everyone has their tastes!
