Nobody else chimed in, so I guess it is solo's turn.

A suggestion... in the interests of keeping this game rolling, we should make an effort to be unambiguous in our intentions.

Okay, I have played onwards to 1000 BC.

2000 Horseman kills barb archer. My archers and chariot move towards Berlin.

1950 Chariot kills another barb archer. Rome is size 3, and the wonder was switched back to HG. Shields are maxed out at 8 to finish it sooner.

1900 Antium – settlers, will build a short road to Veii before heading north.

1750 Chinese start the Pyramids. Archer kills barb archer. Cumae – phalanx.

1700 Veii – settlers, heads north. Antium – warriors, to be used to explore the South Pole.

1650 Currency, researching Trade next. Berlin attacked. Each archer takes out a defending archer. Chariot kills the barb leader inside for 150g. City flag falls.

1600 Aztecs destroyed by the barbs. Berlin attacked and destroyed. I should have waited for it to get to size 2 again.

1550 Home island completely explored and we are alone. I’m thinking that MPE is the better choice at the moment, so adjust wonder production and research to time MPE completion the turn after Trade is discovered.

1400 Neapolis founded north of Rome.

1250 Trade, researching Map Making next. Mustn’t forget to change HG to MPE befoe hitting enter. Production in most cities changed to caravans.

1200 MPE built. The Aztecs have respawned as the Spanish and the Germans have become Vikings. Available techs are a bit disappointing, since most of the AI have learned the same things. Techs they have that I lack are: Horseback Riding, Iron Working, Masonry, Warrior Code, The Wheel, and Map Making. I traded for Map Making and gifted techs to learn where everyone lives. For now I will not trade for any other techs, since there are a few I want to learn before carrying costs get higher. While negotiating, my alliance formed with the Greeks caused a war between myself and the Japanese. A peace treaty was established with everyone else.

1150 Chinese capture Teotihuacan from the barbs. Research begins on Writing. Antium – dye, Veii – trireme

1100 barbs capture Madrid and destroy the Spanish. There is a lot of this happening this game! Good! Now we can send a diplomat over there to farm barb units. Cumae – copper. Pompeii founded using a whale and pheasant. Now we have 6 cities, probably enough on the home island.

1000 Antium – warriors, Cumae – warriors. Both are for martial law.

I have sent two caravans off for some early trade income. One camel has found a hut, but I do not think its potential income should be risked to tip it. My plan is to trade to demanding Japanese cities, making peace with them just as the two caravans arrive. I think the next task is to get enough military units as possible onto continent #2 in order to start extracting tribute. Perhaps a diplomat will also be ready in time to bribe an AI city. In the meantime, HG can be built.

In regards to the anonymous downloader. It was me. Sorry if I caused any problems I just wanted to take a look at the progress to see if I could contribute in any way (in advice form). I did not post as I did not intend to play a turnset. I most likely will do some downloading in the future, but I probably will not be able to do more than lurk, and possibly make the random suggestion.

On an entirely different note, it looks like the game is well in hand. Keep up the good work.

But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man - for precisely the same reasons.

No problem. Feel free to keep doing so, since the first one posting an intention to continue the game gets the ball. Why not join in for a turnset?

I "call the ball" for the next round - 20 turns, 1000BC to 500BC. We still have a 2.42 game, so I'll jump in before it changes. Plus I'll do less damage early on...

I left it after the movement stage, without rushing anything or talking to other civs. Gifting the Greeks some techs should lower the tech costs considerably. I left the Egyptians alone since they were keeping the Barbs at the western end occupied. Now that we have PT you can start working on an invasion force, or wait for the Crusaders and prepare for Mikes. Next?

Well Ele - you have forced us into getting nasty early by choosing Mono - no complaints from me...

I hope to pick up the game on tuesday or wednesday

I was waiting for the shrieks of dismay if we didn't get HG

                      Getting both HG and MPE

The lurkers think it unseemly in this game to start an invasion without waiting for Crooks, and perhaps Clads.

And who was it whose signature contained a paean to the "joys" of opening up a succession game to find the previous player's decisions?

"early"? I've seen Peaster "gettin nasty" around 2000BC...

Besides, they way I read your Special Rules was that our research shut down after both MT and SE, not just one. Once I got HG I restarted the Settler building, and Solo's overseas trade path carried us easily thru Philosophy. I explored the coast of continent #2 and it looks like Triremes are all we need for the short jump. From the MPE maps there aren't a lot of AI ports anyway for Clads to stomp on.

How do you get all those beaker details, like how much a tech costs and how many beakers you're in without cheating?

                              (IIRC)

Turn science down to 0% (no Einsteins) and then check the science advisor. The number of turns until the next tech will equal the number of beakers required until the next tech.

The trade advisor screen will tell you how many beakers you produce per turn, of course.

As for determining how many beakers are in the box... I think someone (SG [1]?) wrote a utility to do that.

Myself, I'm too lazy for all that stuff. Shields good, waste bad, max shields at size 2, grunt, grunt, is how I play in the early going.
