  • The Civ2 Revival Game

OK guys, we have a modicum of interest - so let's go for it!

We shall keep this one simple so as to maintain the maximum of interest and hopefully encourage any newbies that may be around either as lurkers or players.

Hey, newbies - you will be most welcome!

    Rules:
    ====

    - Free-for-all Succession Game format.
--- The last player may not play again.
--- The previous player must allow 36 hours before they step in.
--- i.e. if A plays and then B plays, A must wait to allow any possible C to pick up the game, but if no-one does then A can play after the 36 hours are up.
--- Post here when you grab the game and ideally play your (initially 20) turns - or as far as you get in 3 days if things go badly for you - and then post your current save

    - Revival Game special rules
    --- No cheats (re-homing 'vans - non-sinking triremes etc)
    --- Win by conquest
--- Once our Civilization has acquired Crooks & 'Clads (Monotheism & Steam Engine) we may NEVER research another tech (either by conventional research or by trade - so NO Eins) - from this point techs can only be acquired by conquest and diplomacy. There is no obligation to race for Monotheism - but it is nice isn't it

    - The start
--- Attached is a 2.42 normal map, deity, raging hordes start with a nice hut in view.
--- This can of course be converted to a MGE game if the majority so wish - but once we use MGE we cannot return to 2.42

Who would like to get our all powerful Roman civ started?

    Cheers, Stu

I can only play in MGE, so I will wait to see whether I am needed.

Played that game a bit. Won't give away too much, just this: watch out for those who killed the Germans

I've picked up the save from STYOM. I think I was the first to download it, but there was a somewhat enigmatic comment from Ecthy. I will play the next set of moves today and post the results at the same time tomorrow. If someone beats me to it, che sera sera (?)

Log: I'm not sure why we are building the hanging gardens. I change it to Collossus, but it will not complete in my turnset so someone else will get to choose.

2950 BC chariot explores east; horseman explores west

2900 BC tip hut for none archer

2850 BC more exploration - nothing interesting found except the eastern limits of our island.

2800 BC Veii builds a settler; decide to build new city west of Veii; more exploration. Maxhiavelli says we are the 3rd most advanced civ.

2750 BC more exploration; discover code of laws; start researching monarchy

2700 BC discover the barbarian city of Berlin with horseman; retreat quickly; French civilization destroyed by the Chinese.

                    2650 BC Antium founded.

2600 BC hut tipped for another none archer

2550 BC station my archers in forests between Berlin and my cities; continue exploration

                    2500 BC - 2350 BC more exploration

2300 BC Veii builds settler who heads north; more exploration

                    2250 BC - 2150 BC more exploration

2100 BC build Cumae east of Rome; discover monarchy (just before oedo year!) revolt and start researching currency.

2050 BC Monarchy; more exploration, apparently reaching western limit of our island.

2000 BC couple of barb archers put in an appearance. Someone else can deal with them since my turn is at an end.

Well, this is a conquest game - HG will help us keep the masses of cities we found/conquer happy. And rivered Rome can celebrate at size 3 with HG.

I can make a case for Marco Polo (helps us find all the bad guys), but why Colossus?

On gigamaps I'll sometimes use my capital to crank out a settler before starting a wonder, but on smaller maps like this one, we will be running into the first-citizen-sad phenomenon after what, 5 cities? So I thought it best to get HG started fast.

When I wrote that comment I was thinking pyramids rather than hanging gardens . (call it a senior moment.) Why collossus? It was the only other wonder available. Next player up can switch back . I suspect that we can discover trade before it completes, so we'll be able to choose Marco Polo's Embassy.

I have downloaded the latest but noticed a previous download. Has someone already continued the game?

If not I will play onwards and will switch production back to HG since that seems like the best wonder at the moment.
