  • I've played about 80 turns by which time I had 6 cities including Vile Runes (?) I like the new message when you capture Blue on the first turn. (BTW, have you removed the little puzzle at the beginning?)

Although there continues to be a seemingly unending stream of bad guys, they no longer commit suicide by pointless attacks. Or at least they do it a lot less. Instead they mill around a bit until I kill them. I'm not sure whether this is something you planned or just the AI being the AI.

There are a couple of points where you may wish to check that things are working the way you intended. I seemed to get a white dragon when I started researching rather than when I discovered the technology. Also, I got a second white dragon rather than a copper dragon.

The historian comes from discworld - some sort of time slip through a fissure in the space time continuum caused by a student party at UU?

When capturing an AI city, partisans take to the hills. I think of partisans as being a 20th century phenomomon. I suggest changing the message, or the unit name.

As I've mentioned before, units arrive in Blue apparently randomly - adventurers, legions and a mage so far. I couldn't see any connection with what I was researching. Some sort of message would be helpful - even a simple "reinforcements arrive" would be better than nothing. I know you are desparately short of space in the events file, but I'm confinced it would make the scenario easier to understand.

I find the units very confusing. There seem to be quite a few that don't serve much purpose. For example the militia. They are the only thing I can build after my cities have fortifications, but they're pretty useless. (Or am I missing something?)

I also find the tech tree difficult to follow. Barony seems a good first move, but after that what? Perhaps I should try for "envoys" and "families" as quickly as possible. I'm not sure.

I'm afraid that this scenario is too hard for me. I can't see a way to move forward with my current resources. All I can do is keep researching in the hope that something happens that I can exploit.

If you can't find any more event space to allow you to tell the story as the scenario progresses, perhaps you could put more in the introduction screen - eg "Sending envoys to tell of your success will attract refugees." and "As news of your conquests spread, adventurers will land in Blue seeking fortune (and fame).

I'm sure there is a really good story in here, but at the moment I'm not managing to tease it out.

    Good luck,

      Glad you like the message!

I changed a few things AROUND the puzzle (to spare event space) but it still works the same!

Although there continues to be a seemingly unending stream of bad guys, they no longer commit suicide by pointless attacks. Or at least they do it a lot less. Instead they mill around a bit until I kill them. I'm not sure whether this is something you planned or just the AI being the AI.
I noticed the same in the game I just started: the AI is a bit less agressive towards Blue too!

But it keeps sending units, toward it nonetheless, so I guess it's ok! And it's really aggressive in other parts!

There are a couple of points where you may wish to check that things are working the way you intended. I seemed to get a white dragon when I started researching rather than when I discovered the technology. Also, I got a second white dragon rather than a copper dragon.
Sounds strange! maybe I made a mistake while modifying the event file?? I'll check to see if it's the case, or if you were just too drunk to play...

The historian comes from discworld - some sort of time slip through a fissure in the space time continuum caused by a student party at UU?
I thought I had modified that! Sorry, I'll correct it ASAP (i.e. tonight or this week-end!)

When capturing an AI city, partisans take to the hills. I think of partisans as being a 20th century phenomomon. I suggest changing the message, or the unit name.
Again, I thought it was done! Maybe I joined the wrong file?

As I've mentioned before, units arrive in Blue apparently randomly - adventurers, legions and a mage so far. I couldn't see any connection with what I was researching. Some sort of message would be helpful - even a simple "reinforcements arrive" would be better than nothing. Adventurers appear randomly, the others when you have discovered some tech! But beware, they appear at the beginning of the turn following your discovery, not on the discovery turn!!!

There is no way I can add ANY message to the event file, sorry! Next scen will be for ToT, mostly to get rid of this limitation which I hate!

But if you look on the tech "Description", you will find 2 things:
      1) a few sentences describing the situation and why the tech
      2) in case the tech creates units, what will appear and where!

I find the units very confusing. There seem to be quite a few that don't serve much purpose. For example the militia. They are the only thing I can build after my cities have fortifications, but they're pretty useless. (Or am I missing something?)
Militia are useful for 2 things only:
      1) martial law
      2) occupying a square (to remove a spawning point, for instance...)

      Otherwise, yes, they are useless!

I also find the tech tree difficult to follow. Barony seems a good first move, but after that what? Perhaps I should try for "envoys" and "families" as quickly as possible. I'm not sure.
After Baronny you have the choice between:
      1) techs that make (interesting) units appear: check the tech description to see what they do!
      2) techs that will allow you to build more interesting things: infrastructure or units (ships, merchants or mercenaries)

So if you don't feel like building militia, go for one of the tech allowing to build better units!

I'm afraid that this scenario is too hard for me. I can't see a way to move forward with my current resources. All I can do is keep researching in the hope that something happens that I can exploit.
I think your only chance to advance is by using your hero units wisely! And yes, it is hard indeed!

Yes, I should try to put more things in the introductory text to explain what to do!

But most of all, I should tell to read the tech, unit, improvement descriptions: this is where you can get some understanding of the story behind the scen! I'm not sure it's enough to get it fully though, so please tell me if things are better after reading the descriptions!

Thanks a lot for your help!

I tried it, and it seems to work as intended!

Check the decirptions to understand how it is, but here is an explanation:
There are 3 White Dragons: you have 1 from the start, the 2nd appear on the Miko tech, the 3rd on the Frisco tech

There are 2 Copper Dragon: the 1st from the start, and the 2nd on the Eitocoloc tech!

The historian comes from discworld - some sort of time slip through a fissure in the space time continuum caused by a student party at UU?
OK, corrected, I had forgotten a sentence!

        • I'll check that when I have the time Cyrion - hopefully tomorrow night, but I am down to write the next episode of Mafia (in Other Games) then, so definitely this weekend.
I'm sure there isn't much to check to be honest - your English is great! Maybe I should start posting on French Civ sites.

I think I got a legion and a mage as well as the adventurers. They may well be related to a tech, but if so it was one I was researching on route to another, rather than in its own right.
But if you look on the tech "Description", you will find 2 things:
            1) a few sentences describing the situation and why the tech

Yes, I've looked at some of the descriptions that I must have missed before and there is a more detailed explanation there.

I hadn't thought of occupying a spawning point. I'm not sure how to recognise one. Also there's an element of meta-gaming about that - unless it's in a technology description somewhere. What is the game reason that units spawn? Who in the game knows that they can be prevented from spawning by occupying a particular tile. Perhaps the spawning points should be inside humanoid cities, if that is possible.

I've assumed that I need to get the techs for the horn and the rock to mud scroll - although in my current game I have the horn, but I don't know where the twisted forest is!

Thanks a lot for your help!
I've read more tech descriptions and they certainly help. Perhaps I need to do more exploration - I could use the militia for that. Very slow, but I don't mind if I lose them!

I haven't managed to download the revised game.txt - there seems to be a problem with Apolyton. I'll try again tomorrow.

              Spoiler:
Bottom left of the map as I recall, just to the south-east of where the centaurs and ents appear.

Cyrion, this is shaping up to be great!
I'm going to have a look at the new readme.txt now, and I don't expect that it'll take long to check.

                        • OK, I've got the hang of the dragons. (All else was failing, so I read the instructions.) I have 3 white dragons and two copper dragons which is cool. However, I haven't succeeded in taking Vile Rune and because of the dash to dragons I haven't got the Kobolds to attack the humanoids yet.

BTW, I'm not getting any sound effects with some of the characters - Wilfried I think, and perhaps some others. Is this a problem with my installation, or the scenario?

Yes, I think it's so, because it seems to work fine for me! Should you see it again, please tell me!

Yes, I've looked at some of the descriptions that I must have missed before and there is a more detailed explanation there.
Good! You know, I didn't spend so much time writing them for nothing! even if I have to admit I'm not always checking them while playing other scens...

I hadn't thought of occupying a spawning point. I'm not sure how to recognise one. Also there's an element of meta-gaming about that - unless it's in a technology description somewhere. What is the game reason that units spawn? There are 2 sorts of spawning points:
                            1) inside some cities, so that it stops once you occupy them!
                            2) some spawning points are "in the open", to represent how hard it is to clear the area from some of its wild denizens, like bandits and such! They are easy to recognize, as it's always on the same kind of terrain (which, logically, provides a good place of hiding! ); so if you re watchful, you'll find it easily!

I've assumed that I need to get the techs for the horn and the rock to mud scroll - although in my current game I have the horn, but I don't know where the twisted forest is!
The Twisted Forest is an unit, so check the units description to recognize it! And then explore the peninsula!

One hint: Duke's hint about its position is fully wrong (sorry pal! ): actually the forest isn't too far from Blue!

I've read more tech descriptions and they certainly help. Perhaps I need to do more exploration - I could use the militia for that. Very slow, but I don't mind if I lose them!
Good! You could use the militia for that, but as you say they are slow! The best units for this purpose are the rangers, of course! And adventurers (randomly appearing in Blue) would be better too as they have 2 moves!

                            Thanks for your efforts!
