      • Things move on. I've destroyed the first lair. I presume that the merchant will be worth lots of gold when delivered. Actually, gold doesn't seem to be an issue. I've switched most of my cities to capitalisation so I'm not short of a bob or two. (BTW, the description says it converts production to trade. That should be gold.)

        I've also used the horn on the twisted forest. A thought struck me here. You use a lot of event space to produce a large number of different units at this point. Could you save space by getting the new units to appear gradually - at a rate that more or less matches?

        On a similar theme, I notice that the code for reincarnating the heros is very repetitive. Is there any way to reuse the same code rather than repeat it? Are text variables allowed?

          The amount of gold given won't be huge, but it will provide the same number of science too, meaning you'll probably discover a new tech on this turn!

          And that might encourage you to trade...

          I'll correct that!

          • Well, I played some and so far have reached Vile Rune and taken Broken Bone as well. I'm advancing slow, but I don't have a lot of units... (I researched for a couple of improvements, and getting the horn was expensive tech-wise as well)
            I'm using the pioneers and refugees to improve land around my cities, and I'm getting a tech every 4 turns (a couple I got at 3 turns). I'm waiting to get a couple more reinforcements before moving on.

            I'm also wondering if I should found new cities here or further along with the refugees...

              It was the princely sum of 208, which was enough to get me another tech on the next turn, but not enough to encourage me to trade. I have gold coming out my ears, and the only thing I spend it on is rushing fortifications in a new city.

              At the moment, I'm getting a new tech about every six turns, which seems fast enough. I might improve it by getting Blue to celebrate.

              I was thinking about the possibility of removing the line that says to trigger the event only once. Wouldn't that give the player all those units every turn? You might consider that a bit excessive so then you could remove most of the additional units. If that was still too many units, could you make it happen every nth turn? Just a thought.

              BTW, from the description, I was expecting something interesting to happen when I discovered Arepo oligarchy (?) but poor Winfried remained unmoved. I probably misread the text. Was it still a dream? It may be worth you re-reading the section around "strange dreams", etc to make sure it tells the right story.

              • BTW, there is a small typo in the description of Ranger Pearce (?) (the apollo wonder). It says "he ragner" insted of "The ranger". Apologies if this has been picked up already - I haven't downloaded the latest file(s) yet.

                  Here is what has been updated, and hopefully we are now nearly ready for release:

                  - The discovery of the Wyvern tech by the humanoids has been delayed by about 30 turns (giving you more time until they can build flying units!)

                  - the text about Wilfried and his dreams has been modified

                  - The typo in the Ranger Reconnaissance description had already been corrected

                  - The apparition of the Twisted Forest unit sadly correspond to what I want, so I can't reduce the size of the events needed for it! But the good news is: I managed to squeeze nearly all I wanted in the events!

                  - the people's head have been modified to leave no doubt whether they are happy, content or unhappy!

                  - The text for Foreign Support (capitalization) has been corrected: converts production into gold!

                  _ Every hero has his own "raise dead" text; Duke, if you can tell me if they are correct, I would be grateful

                  Oberon: "The magic spells protecting the High Mage Oberon were not enough to save his life ! By chance, his body has been retrieved and Grinenlo, High Cleric of Pelor, was able to raise him from the dead! Sadly, this spell cannot be performed on Oberon again..."

                  Finvil: "The Elven Knight Finvil has lead his last charge! By chance, his body has been retrieved and Grinenlo, High Cleric of Pelor, was able to raise him from the dead! Sadly, the strength of the magic used means that this spell cannot be performed on Finvil again..."

                  Fingolfin: "The Ranger Fingolfin has been killed by his hated humanoid foes ! By chance, his body has been retrieved and Grinenlo, High Cleric of Pelor, was able to raise him from the dead! Sadly Fingolfin wouldn’t survive a second resurrection spell..."

                  Wilfried: "The brave Wilfried has fallen in battle rather than flee ! By chance, his body has been retrieved and Grinenlo, High Cleric of Pelor, was able to raise him from the dead! Sadly, Wilfried’s stamina wouldn’t be enough to allow for a second use of this spell…"

                    The last thing I need (unless you found other weak points while playtesting ) is a good title picture!

                    Curt, do you think you could help me with that as you proposed?

                    And if anybody knows if there is a way to remove the box appearing when a foreign contacted civ discovers a tech, I wouldn't mind!

                      Other than that, I like the way that all the messages are slightly different. This shows that care has been put into writing them.
