  • Wonderbar! I found my remaining Norse and Celtic units!

I downloaded a cool scenario called Hammer of the North by a guy named Hardjoy. It had the perfect pick of units I was lacking. Thank-you Hardjoy, if you are reading this.

Now I'm done my units graphics file, at last!

In fact, I've attached it, for anyone's perousal. Comments and criticism are welcome.

      • Sorry about the absense, guys. . I was incredibly busy lately, and just noticed someone had posted on this thread. I guess I owe it to say something.

I've not had much time lately to work on this, I'm afraid. I should have more time after the summer. I was last working on those editable text files. I may need a bit of help with some aspects of them, such as events.

Just letting you know I'm still here. More to come!

        • I've begun work yesterday on the rules text file. I just need to know how the units2 section works, at least as far as making units unique is concerned. I've had strange results with it. What could I be doing wrong?

            Righto!

The way it works in the UNITS_ADVANCED fields is that you
get rows of 1s and 0s that make various things happen.

The one you are wanting to deal with is field A.

You have eight digits - The default setting is 1 = on.

The 1 means a unit can be built by the matching civ.

11111111 = All units are buildable.
00000000 = No units are buildable.

The system works in programmer's reverse notation.

The first digit represents the purple civ.
The second digit represents the orange.
The third digit represents the light blue civ.
The fourth digit represents the yellow civ.
The fifth digit represents the dark blue civ.
The sixth digit represents the green civ.
The seventh digit represents the white civ.
The eight digit represents the barbs.

Keeping this in mind, you can turn some digits to 1 or 0,
to restrict units to some civs only. I would have your city
GFX file open while doing it to keep you on track. And
once you have determined what units a civ is building,
you can copy the data from one field and paste it into
all the unit fields of that civ...Just an idea.

            Hope this helps!

                  • Say, I figure I can generate a Heavens and Underworld map using a random Fantasy Game, then exporting the sky and underground maps from it - they have to be the size, right?

Could use much of those worlds' terrain, too.

You could have a look at the sci-fi/fantasy gfx thread for my fortress unit; perhaps it can be of use

btw this project seems to be taking years to complete! :wow:

                            • If there ever were Atlanteans I'm sure they'd be honored to know they're cities were so well represented in Civ II graphic form. Well done again Curt, I especially think the river's a nice tough .
