  • I'm sorry to hear that, Fairline. I have the units you made for Warlords. I'll send them along when you're ready.

    • Damn gareth, I'm sorry that that had to happen. Its quite a regular occurance for me too. I once lost not only my work of several months but the disc I backed it up on had a scratch in it...

I've ammassed quite a large horde of your units these past 3 years. Anything you need, I'll send them over right away.

And please, for the love of Manchester United's absurdedly large trophy room, don't quit!

Thanks a lot Eivind - I've got the CDG stuff now. Top work fella

As for the will to carry on.... well I have all the unit graphics that you recently sent to me. What else are you missing exactly? The Cities.gif? I believe I have a draft of that as well and some terrains
Gareth, do you need the emailed files sent back to you?
Thanks for the offer guys but fortunately Agricola had the most recent set of gfx files and I'm up and running with RF again

There is a fair bit on the Web about recovering damaged/unreadable CD's.
Thanks John, I'll do a Google search and check it out.

@Curt: Thanks again for the kind offer mate, but I think I have now got all the stuff I posted. If you wouldn't mind e-mailing me the Dictator ToT unit set again that would be a real help.

Four words: "Big Bag of Suck"
That sums it up nicely Jimmy

@Tech: Thanks B. - send the Warlords stuff whenever you're ready.

Thanks again for your help guys

        • I think it speaks testiments to how important this game is that the entire community practically rallied around this thread to help out in the data recovery in whatever way they could.

I'm glad to see you at least seem to have found the insperation to finish this again Gareth!!

              • Its the right spirit indeed!! This is by far the most anticiapated scenario on this or any Civ II forum I believe in my opinion.

                • Brrrr... , losing all your work can be a demoralizing showstopper. I know that when i lost my entire collection of music files (wav´s and MP3´s made from my CD collection). I never got it back.

Also, unlike normal CD-roms CD-r´s are actually very vulnerable to scratches so they have to be handled with care. For that i usually do double backups. One on a spare HD in my pc for long/medium term storage and one on CDr´s for archival purposes. Another (extra) solution is a large external HD with USB 2.0 or firewire.

                  Gareth,
In the past few months I´ve also made a collection of your graphics (CDG, Civfanatics, Poly). Is there anything you´re still missing?
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

                  • memory sticks and zip drives seem to be a very reliable means of backing up data, they don't hold as much data as a cd-r or dvd-r, but they are much harder to damage, personally, i have 3 partitions on my hard drive, one 60gb partition for music, videos and my civ2 graphics collection, one 50gb partition for games and one 4gb partition for my operating system, that way if a virus infects my operating system, i can format it without losing anything, (although xp pro takes like 2 gigs for a full install ) anyways i find this to be the best way to set a system up

Since you said you had lost some of your stuff
I am trying to isolate the units in the screenshots that are have posted,
where should i put the units?

                      • I think he has most of the RF content back now, Erika!

But that is a good gesture, to cut out and reduce the units froms screenies is tough work!
