Per Sparrowhawk's request: the "7 player PBEM" - game...
Whatever you do,
stay away from EU2!
It will destroy your life,
(or at least p*** off the wife!)
To La Fayette, as fine a gentleman as ever trod the Halls of Apolyton
From what I understand of that Civ game of yours, it's all about launching one's own spaceship before the others do. So this is no big news after all: my father just beat you all to the stars once more. - Philippe Baise
of course I spend way too much time playing and get less sleep as a result, but does it really matter as long as ___________ ends out as the world power?
* fill in your choice country in the blank above, in my case it is currently Venice, the major power of Europe in 1770
Back on topic......but at least EU2 helps keep me occupied while waiting for my turn in Civ to come back around....of course when it does i will need to search for my disk, it has been so long since I played last

I was totally flummoxed by the sheer number of different factions......and the scale of the thing is just breathtaking. It's the first God Game I 've ever played in which "conquering the entire world" seems not only impossible, but frankly undesirable!
I salivate at the prospect of a future version starting in 4000 BC!

Wow..... I looked back to see my last turn and it was sent as quoted above, March 16, 2005 or 3 1/2 months ago.
I have played the next turn and sent on the save to Carolus tonight (June 27, 2005).
Germanos would love this game!!

I can't agree more, the game is great and I too can't help but compare to Civ (starting in 4000 BC). Not sure what you mean by the conquering the whole world being not only impossible but undersirable as well. In my current game (Venice) I have been trying to conquer as much as possible and with only 1 1/2 years remaining (May 1818) I control the majority of Europe and North America, along with significant portions of the Middle East, Africa and South America. I think that as I get better i will be able to conquer the majority of the world, and hope to do so. Why do you think this is undesirable (though you are right in that it is likely a virtual impossibility to conquer the entire world).
(by the way, I am only playing on "Normal" difficulty , which may be why I was able to conquer the majority of Europe).
By the way, not sure if you have noticed, but in the "other games" section of these Forums there is a "Paradox" Forum which has discussion of Europa Universalis. I am still new to the game (my only complete game so far was as Scotland) and have picked up a lot from fellow Apolytoners. Perhaps we could continue this discussion there?
While that sounds great to me to get this game moving again, it sounds like an abrupt change to a game that has been moving so slowly (often 1 month + at one player).
Not sure we could enforce this as it would result in probably 3 of the players having their turns "control N" on a regular basis.
Having said that, I would be in favour of some time limit.

Hi guys,
great thread, thanks for keeping this great game alive!
I wish I would have much more time to help this game keep running...
The last turn stayed very long at Eddy, because he had trouble with a new PC and civ installation and so on.
And very often it happens, that a player is not available for a longer time.
Nevertheless, this game will not die!
I would agree with a time limit of perhaps a week.
But I think we could speed up the game, if we use alliance player.
There are obviously alliances in this game, and perhaps it makes sense if alliance players could sub for each other after a time limit.
This could fit for me/Sparrowhawk,
Eddy / Ian,
Babylon / french ?
Just for the romans I do not know an adequate alliance player, but perhaps Carolus knows
Both setting a one week time limit and using substitute players (allies) make sense to me.
Just for anyone interested, I took a few minutes to summarize the dates when I sent on turns, to give an idea of time between turns.
