Ok, I accepted the barter. Now what? I'm back to the "View barter"-window...

How do I proceed to play my turn?

I just closed the utility and will play my turn now... Hopefully the barter is updated in the game (although I don't see how, as I will now load the turn SH sent me...)?

      Sigh...

      Anyway, on with the game!

Thank you for the savegame, Carolus.
I tried to make good use of it (topless Bab women getting sunburnt on all Bab beaches ).

          NP!

Should I do something with the save above?

BTW, this is my first post with my new broadband connection! I say, anyone for MP?

I don't think you need to do anything with the save above, I think he posted it for DaveV to download if necessary (but if I know La Fayette, he also emailed it to Dave), and also to let the rest of us know where the game is at.

As for your new connection....I did notice that your post appeared quicker then normal.......now I know why

Let's see if it can also influence the speed with which I play and pass on my turns in the game...

Do you still play "real" (i. e. not PBEM) MP? I remember our games with Eddy quite fondly... His wife used to set down her foot once or twice ("enough is enough")... One time one of his children had a nightmare so Eddy had to quit to comfort him/her... "Let'em scream, Eddy", I would say, "Trust me, it'll do'em just good!"

Is he still in this PBEM game or is it someone else handling his civ?

I wish I did still play "real" MP Civ but between a lack of time and a lack of other players it became a virtual impossibility for me to play online.

Eddy is still Eddy as far as I know, though if I understand right he is now closer to my time zone then yours (he moved I think).

I too enjoyed our MP games, and rushed home from work a number of times because I knew that you two were waiting for me. Didn't want to keep you awake any later then necessary (or Eddy's wife).

I have moved on lately to EU2 single player (Europa Universalis 2), don't even play SP in Civ anymore

I've seen a lot of praise for that game! Seems worth picking up from a bargain bin...

01.30 over here and nothing special to report... Been browsing some old threads... In one (this PBEM's), a player was frustrated because 5 (!) days had passed and there was no progress of the game... I miss the Civ 2 activity of the old days (but I know discussion is hot in other 'Poly fora)...

I think I will have to pick up Civ 4 right away as it comes through the factory gates and jump into discussing the game's aspects...

Never got into Civ 3... What say you, venerable Mongolian leader, is EU and EU 2 worth picking up?

BTW, what did you mean with "vanilla civ" in your post above? Crème de la crème civ?

Yes, I think the original game had a turnaround of about a week between turns, quite the difference now where if we get the turn back in 3 months it is an accomplishment

I look at Civ 3 in it various versions on a regular basis, but have yet to buy it and not sure I ever will . Tempting, but it almost seems too late to buy it now anyway (though I think it may be too much for my computer to handle ).

I remember when I first started playing Civ 2, and I would wake up on a saturday and figure I would start a game.......and the next thing I would know it would be 5:30 a.m. and I was still sitting at the computer, sometimes without eating and defitely without realizing how much time had passed.

With EU2 (I haven't tried EU) it is a similar adiction, though I am at a different point in my life and staying up all night playing is no longer an option. I would say EU2 is as good as Civ, though quite a different type of game. I enjoy it immensely (not sure immensely is a strong enough word, I find myself loading it on my lunchhour to check my progress. I cannot recommend it highly enough (plus it is cheap, and runs on older computers).

I would struggle to come up with a reason not to try it out .

By "vanilla civ" I mean plain & ordinary (like vanilla ice cream). No mods, no scenario, just vanilla, start at 4000 bc and play the game as it was written by the designers.

My reference above was in answer to Peaster's question about the need to download the scenario in order to assist you and La Fayette with your barter (nothing to download but the game file). I can understand Peaster's assumption in that most of the PBEM Games (though given the number still being played, not sure what "most" is anymore ) are played with a scenario as most of the players don't want to play the initial parts of the game where turns take a minute to play (press enter & save).

                        Does that explain it better?

                        /me

                            Greetings!

I don't know, but if there's interest I would also like to be in it!

As you can see (by rolling back via the link in the first post) these games take quite some time to finish! On the other hand, (at least in the past) it's been easy enough to find replacements should a player's interest fade away...

and i don't think we need 7 .... maybe with 4 or so we could start one too ..... and see how it goes .....

                                Ok.

Let's see what the others say when they check this thread. Maybe we can get a 4 player game going...

I'm not an expert on PBEM games either; I do what the others tell me to do if we run into technical problems!

Mostly, regular play goes like this:

                                i) You get the save and open it

                                ii) Choose your civ

                                iii) Play your turn

iv) At the end (once you have done everything you want during that turn), press "Ctrl + n" (or is it "Ctrl + alt + n"?) to avoid that the AI moves your cities' workers around

                                v) Save the game and send it to the next player

vi) Wait X months for your next turn and forget all the plans and strategies you were forging the last turn...

I also believe there is "real" MP in the beginning to get the game started as the first turns are so short. Perhaps a couple of hours...
