    I guess I shall spend the week-end at The Institute, singing the rules in order to remember at least the melody.

        Nah, La Fayette is a rapid player, so we are excited about the thought of getting the Silver Spire before 1000 AD!

        And Marco's right afterwards (and then DESTROYED) may be a great way to rapidly grow our dis-reputation.

          BTW Monk, I like very much your Awful Tower.
          It reminds me of an American visitor asking me 'chaaeeempsss Iiiiiilaisiiiiis ?' (took me about ten seconds to be able to reply).

            Sorry, Old Man. Didn't realize that was part of the game this time.

            BTW, if you want a good laugh, go back to page one and check out the third post.

            Re: Awful Tower
            It is only awful as to its meaninglessness as a WOW. The RL Tower is awesome.

                  They should follow SG[1]'s advice and 'splore instead.

                    Well I for one love Paris in the springtime, and every other time for that matter. (Well, apart from the early hours of the morning on the Rue St Denis. Can get a bit intimidating, especially if you have no interest in the products being advertised).

                    Besides, we don't need Trade for Marco's, but for caravans! We're going to have to get the benefits of all our favourite wonders by other means, and we'll need loads of cash and science to do it. Although we could carefully select our time to capture Leo's to get the most out of it, but I'll leave that until nearer the time.

                          The Mucky Monarch

                          Dirty Game - 20 turns

                          1050BC = as LF remarks the Settler coming on line in NoBath cannot be saved - change to Temple and rush; Mudville starts Temple; hit Enter

                          Hey - we're on a 'ribbon world' a zillion squares E-W and about 25 N-S -- must have ships!
                          Strategy debate - my gut feeling is to sleaze like mad and make DaveV proud, but experience indicates that this is a sure route to Succession Game unpopularity - yeah - go for it Stu !!
                          --- so will temporise, lots of cities, but each with a potential for growth to size eight, build some white goods mainly temples at this stage and start a few cities growing so as to support our fleet which will now be needed in addition to the army -- nasty one OnS! :doffs hat:

                          1000BC = Temple in NoBath;
                          0975BC = Bronze Working->Currency;
                          0950BC = Barbarian Archer dispatched by Chariot;
                          0925BC = WhalePoo founded;
                          0900BC = Much navel contemplation
                          0875BC = More of the same
                          0850BC = Snore
                          0825BC = Snore
                          0800BC = Temple in Dung City; Currency->Trade;
                          0775BC = Dirthole founded;
                          0750BC = Back to sleep
                          0725BC = Muddhole reaches size 3, rushes Temple; Hut reveals the city of Lost Soap;
                          0700BC = Temple in Muddhole
                          0675BC = Snore
                          0650BC = Snore
                          0625BC = Snore
                          0600BC = Trade->Mysticism; Rubbish Tip founded;
                          0575BC = Snore
                          0550BC = Muddville now size 6
                          0525BC = the end of a rather uneventful reign

                          Growth & Expansion were my watchwords - I guess we are now entering the era of trade, trade, trade -- go for it guys.

                            I didn't even open the box to my computer last night, so will have to set it all up this evening and make sure everything is running all right before installing Civ 2.

                            Will be back soon looking for saves to play....

                                Good begining, Stu!!

                                It's boring to pump out settlers and plop new towns but it seems the only way for this game. And since they can grow to size 8, who can see this as a sleeze?? There will be power in numbers. And given the map, cities on the southern and east, west coasts might be best. This will be an interesting game.
