    • Looks like you had some fun with the Mongols!! With a few spies to drop the walls at Karakorum, Magellean's is ripe for the taking.

      • 1858 (0) Hmmmm we’re about average in the world; there are four techs out there that we don’t know and although we have 17 cities, we’re nip & tuck with the Russians also with 17, the Vikes with 16, and the English with 15. We have an army of 15 Cav & 21 Rifles with most/all as vets, but our major opponents look to have similar forces. Now that the Japanese are almost gone (thanks to the good work of our predecessors) it is time to focus on the Mongols (who are defended by muskets) and upgrading the quality of our units.

        1859 (1) -- Send wounded units to Nara (our only Barracks). Talk to Vikes (4R), Russians (6R) and English (5R) Swap away Lead & Econ to the English for AW & Elec1 (Ironclads upgrade); give TG as requested, ask for gift & collect 100g (now Neutral/Peace). Vikes & Russians have nothing of value for conversation. Disband a Kago Destroyer & a vet Rifle in town, RB a bunch of temples, switch a lot of production to camels &

        1860 (2) -- Become Democracy. (Russia discovers corporation & swaps with England for Elec1.) Take Nagasaki (+137g.) Disband a Val destroyer for happy reasons. Swap Corp for Med with Eng -- they also want Esp (ah..., no.) Alliance dissolved.

        1861 (3) -- (Chinese discover Corp; Eng discovers Steel & swaps with Russia for GW.) We switch our research for Elec2 over Fund, GW, Ref, St, Theo. Discover Elec2 & opt for Refine over Fund & GE. We love in 5 cities. Buy Khanbalyk for 124g (+14g).

        1862 (4) -- (Vikes swap Steel for Uni with Eng.) Buy a Mongol Musket; Senate continues to support our activity even as a Mongol Dragoon slays a wandering spy.

        1863 (5) -- Buy Kabul for 507g (+64g) get our second barracks (too far away via roads for value however.) Pop = 8M.

        1864 (6) -- Found Inner Lake and Riverton. Destroyer sinks a mongrel Caravel, becomes a vet.

        1865 (7) -- (Only notice now during the typing up of the notes that I misnumbered the turns.) Hut = AT = Granada, size 4 with Temple & Market (one space off of a nice sweet spot. Also have a couple of random cities blow up.)

        1866 (8) -- (England slips down to Republic.) Demanded hides from OSM yield 616 in Tabriz, but wait until next turn for remaining deliveries and city capture.

        1867 (9) -- Discover Refining & opt for Steel over Comb, Fund, Ge, GW, Ref & Theo. Pop = 9M. Our boat chain (starting from Funi many turns ago) now reaches Mongol shores. Demanded hides from OSM = 592 in Tabriz; three other trucks also land with lesser payoffs. Take Tabriz (after Destroyer emptied out the city) for 68 coins.

        1868 (10) -- (China is now a Republic as well.) Discover Steel, & opt for Machine Tools over Comb, Fund, GW, Ref, Theo. Four demanded trucks drop off goods in Mongol lands with payoffs between 148 & 355; four non demanded trucks gain between 95 & 140 in payoffs. Take Nish for 69 coins.

        1869 (11 -- what I thought was turn #10 -- does the institute offer lessons in note taking?) -- (England discovers GE & Starts Cfc; Swaps this tech with Russia.) Discover Machine Tools and opt for Comb over GE. Drop off a half dozen trucks in mongrel lands -- three demanded (140-276) and three non (98 - 300+). Senate demands a permanent peace treaty with the Mongols.

        Notes -- sorry about the extra turn -- most of the cities have a few shields in the production box and there is $5K in funds for the next player to use as desired. We have a Wonder (Hoover) to get and a couple more (Cfc, JSB) that are tech achievable. We should also get Combustion on the click (assuming we stay in Democracy.) There are sufficient military forces in Mongolia to take out a city or two (Kara has Magellan’s, hint, hint) & another boat’s worth a boat chain away should the desire be to switch over…

                • Death to the Mongols!

                  O Sole Mio - 10 turns - well actually 5

                  1869 - We are Mighty and Honourable and at war with the Japanese. We are (momentarily) a Democracy with three cities in revolt! 6 techs from Howie Powie, 2 from Armour. 5004g in the Bank! - this will never do! Move sliders to 0.3.7 - Science now a fat 4, losing about 80g/turn. Trade Routes generally a disaster - half our inadequate military is spread over the Eastern segment of the home continent. Buy all outstanding white goods. Sell redundant Aqueduct, Sewer System, Barracks & Granary. Start several new white goods to strengthen infrastructure for both Demo & Fundy. Designate Kyoto SSC in waiting. Discover Bokhara costs only 700g, but fail to arouse Mongols so decide to wait 'til next time. Hit Enter ...

                  1870 = 7 Temples, 2 MarketPlaces, a Court House & an Aqueduct built, order restored in three cities, three cities start celebration;

                  Problem ... I did not get any science advance - in fact the beaker count seemed to move backwards slightly! - This happened twice - so I am returning to my 'before I hit enter save' and setting Science to zero and maximising gold ...
                  This seems to have worked - beaker bar moves back a little (but we are now Supreme so have changed key civ) - gone back to research - 5 turns per ...

                  Hut, Pamplona; Rush white goods - start some more; reload ship chain for Mongol land;

                  1871 = 2 Temples, 4 MarketPlaces, a Library & a Harbour built, another city celebrates; Combustion->Automobile; Oil, Kyoto-Kashgar, 244g; Gems, Ormuz-Kashgar, 98g; Mongols still won't snarl ...
                  1872 = 2 Aqueducts & 2 Court Houses, 3 more celebrations; and the Mongols won't rise to the bait ...
                  1873 = A Temple, an Aqueduct & a University; Kyoto now produces as many beakers as O Sole Mio! Automobile->Miniaturisation; Patience exhausted the Mongol offensive is launched; Bokhara + 47g + 80g for Aqueduct; Samarkand + 63g; Kashgar cost 723g + 87g + 40g for Barracks;
                  1874 = 2 SuperHighways, a Court House & a Sewer System; Kyoto now surpasses O Sole Mio for science! Spy takes down Karakorum's walls, Karakorum razed;

                  Five turns seem enough at the moment ... Enjoy!

                        Julius,

                        Sadly, I must tell you the unfortunate news. Magellan is dead and gone, like the original Great Library of Alexandria, torched in the exuberance of conquest. The good news is that your memory is fine!!

                        Unless there is some greater strategy that involves doing w/o sea power/movement on this map, "someone" should be joining you soon to clean the Institute's rooms.
