  • Meet with chinese, fail to provoke war.

I want those units off our land.

    20 turns/tech.

To many. Time to crank out the cash.

    Sliders adjusted to 70/0/30

Might as well try for Sun Tzu's.

Spend cash to rush 3 caravans for next turn.

    Hit Enter.

    1740:

Spare Oval builds caravan of spice, Target of Pi-Ramesses.
Greeks attempt to break border garrison.
    Kenobikave celebrates.
Lagomorphia now size 9, fighting over the banana with Git's Hole.

Establish trade route with Alexandria, 64 gold.

Might as well build a palace in Kenobikave.
Attempt to provoke Chinese, again fail.

    1750:

Greeks charge fortress, fail. Crusader attempts to counterattack weak Knight, fails. That's awful luck. We need vet troops!

Coal to Pi-Ramesses, 325 gold! That's more like it.

Trying to construct shipchaing to Egyptians after I finish all the caravans.

    1752:

Again attempt to provoke Chinese. Vet crusader crushes weakened Greek knight. Forget about discontent delaying final growth of Lagomorphia. Egyptians discover conscription.

We could use all our Muskets upgraded to rifles. Build diplomat to go on the burgeoning boats.

    1754:

Chinese are a real pain in the butt in preventing the celebrations in Kenobikave.
Rush more diplomats, including one in Kenobikave.

    1756:

Bribe both Chinese 'emissaries', promptly disbanded for more shields for more caravans.

    Spice to Pi-Ramesses, 165 gold.
    Steal Physics from Egyptians.

    Second Spice headed to Thebes.
    Need more boats!
Rush lots more caravans. Now have 3 for Sun Tzus stocked up plus lots of hides and other assorted caravans.

    1758:

Massive barb invasion erupts. Now I'm glad I rushed that diplomat. Diplomat bribes barbs, and uses them to feed more caravans.

    1760:

    Greeks almost finished Sun Tzus.

Plow 6 caravans into Spare Oval to deny them the wonder.
Establish trade route with PAX STYOM, 60 gold.
Kill Greeks camping by the Fortress.

    1762:

Egyptians kill caravan just outside of Thebes!

build fortress to Protect Git's Hole.

Leave everything else alone. My successor has 644 gold to play with. We are more than halfway to Conscription. We could steal both consciption and Steam Engine form the Egyptians.

      • It seems Jrabbit and Scouse Gits received my pm asking them to take the heat off of me for losing a city (okay I didn't really send a pm, but with all the recent talk about rules and palaces and razing cities, they did so quite nicely ). Quite the long drawn out discussion on rules, but good that it seems it is now sorted out (I hope). Now we can return to the task at hand, and bring the Greeks further down to size.

          Oooups ! Sorry
I wasn't away very long, but it looks like a missed a lot of fun.

I have downloaded and will play in the coming days.

I just need an hour or two to read all what's about this incident.

Shall we call it the "coliseum incident"

            • 1762 ad. Hmmm, we don’t have that many cities ! But the Greek ones don’t look too great to take. I think I shall wait before making serious war to the Egyptians, our great trading partner. I see things this way : trade, trade and trade until we get a technological edge. And if we don’t then we know at least our handling of modern units can outplay the AI anyway.
I immediately build my palace in Sad King Julius. My poor city is by the way the only one not in size 12 ! (because of caravels ?) A look at all cities tell we could use banks. And why has Lagomorphia barracks when we’re the happy owner of Sun Tzu.
1764 Egyptians build Eiffel Tower. We kill a greek unit. SKJ is now or capital.
1766 French discover Railroad and we lose HG’s effect. 2 caravans to Pi-Ramsseses
1768 More Greek losses. We refuse to meet them.
1770 We steal steam engine from the Egyptians (in Alexandria). Special diplomacy is further enhanced when we launch a caravel with 2 dips for stealing/bribing in French or Chinese continent.
              1772 More trade with P-R.
1774 We discover Conscription, bad news for the Greeks. More losses for them. More trade to P-R
1776-8. All cities have now a bank.
1780. Sad news : Egyptians are clever enough to build ironclads and sink one of our caravels, 4 units lost ! I should have made peace with them a long time ago. Greeks remain stupid, though : more and more losses for them.
1782. Diplos near French continent. There is many things to steal. Buying a city might be an option, too.
1784 . Next turn, Sad King Julius will build (unless there is some change made). The Admiral would have sunk those Egyptians way before they could harm our fleet …

              • There is one food caravan in Spare Oval. I hope my successor can make good use of the diplos in French territory. We are quite rich : 3131 gold. The 3 caravans lost in 1780 are costly. We don’t have magnetism yet. Maybe we can steal it …
I propose to remain in perfectionist style for a good while, until we have some solid offensive weapons and a very healthy treasury. That said, someone might have another opinion and play differently : that’s the magic of succession game.

                  • Uh oh

It's looking increasingly unlikely that I would be able to play anytime soon - not for another year at least.

So if OnS or Sparrowhawk wish to jump in, feel free...

                      • OMG, just a few days ago I was pointing out how slow this was moving (myself as much or more to blame as anyone....and now it is my turn ). I am currently almost 1000 miles from my computer, and while I have a laptop with me, and my civ disk, I will have to install Civ, with the patch before I can play. I brought both the laptop and the disk intended to do this, but seriously doubt I will get a chance to play prior to the 25th (anyone else kinda busy at this time of year ). I am on holidays however, and playing shouldn't be too big a deal after christmas, I just doubt it will happen before
