    R-C-C lives on

    Right guys, this is my first Civ since Ivor's passing - if I make a fool of myself put it down to playing with tears in my eyes ...

    But what's your (collective) excuse!!!
    This is a deity game - not Prince level - phalanges lose to Barb Archers - every damn time! So why are we building them? Where are our Settlers, not to mention our 'Vans? I know that it might not be in 'your' city, but wouldn't at least the odd WoW be nice?

    OK - have I got this right? 10ish turns, found city, conquer city, build Gardens etc ...

    Here goes:

    1450 = Put Science on back burner - move to Shield economy

    1400 = Chariot gets airlift home; Injured Barb Archer dispatched by Apoc Horse;
    1350 = Keno Horse destroys Barb Archer + King and becomes vet; We are now producing naught but 'Vans
    1300 = Spare Horse becomes vet killing Barb Horse
    1250 = More Barbs (2*Archer + King) land near Apoc; Barb King near Spare beams up
    1200 = Apoc Horse sallies forth and kills Archer, retreats from range of second
    1150 = Will a fortified green Phalanx on a river hold against a Barb Archer? Do I want to find out?
    1100 = Seems that the Archer does not fancy his chances ...
    1050 = Archer and King perish - shame I could have used the 150g;
    1000 = not much
    0975 = not much
    0950 = delay putting van in due to state of Science box - decide to slightly overstay my welcome
    0925 = Pottery->Polytheism ; Hides(d): Lag-Sparta, 24g ;
    0900 = not much
    0875 = not much
    0850 = Git's Hole founded;
    0825 = Gardens completed comes in next turn - caravans that might become settlers nearly ready in Keno & Lago

    Two out of three can't be bad ...
    I should probably have turned the Science back up a tad

    Cheers all

      Good turns, SG[1] - seems you haven't lost your touch -

      Good to have you back

      sirsnuggles is next, but he hasn't posted since Sep 9:
      What is RL?

      Perhaps RL has its hooks in him. Julius, please stand by to play in his stead if we don't hear from sirsnuggles in the next 48 hrs.

        Next time I'll build horses, which I usually insist upon on other games.

          I will only be able to play next friday (october the 3rd).
          So if someone wishes to bypass me, it's ok.
          It's quite a busy week-end

              Oh, Ben.
              This seems like as good a place to tell you as any, but you've got Scuse Git (2) in your sig.

              I'm with SG[1] on this though - phalanxes are only good for a twenty shield rushing unit. Not for defence!

                    Ben,

                    The tribute is fine. I think they are tweaking your spelling. Go back ~7 posts to compare. I suggest blaming the Spell Checker.

                      Ivor would not have minded the spelling - thank you on his behalf for the tribute.

                        I'm a sort of scouser - but I was absolutely gutted at the age of 15 or so when my parents told me that I was born closer to Goodison than Anfield.

                        Hey Ben - don't worry about the spelling. It's the thought that counts.
                        You've managed to attract quite a few people from OT over to visit the RIP thread.

                            800bc. We build the Gardens as it was planned by my great predecessors. Everything looks fine except I don't understand why we're on only 30% tax rate. Oh yes, and I wish I had a settler ...
                            775-750-725. We get 50 gold from a hut.
                            700-675bc. Settler build.
                            650-625. Polytheism discovered. We choose mysticism as the next one to be and prepare for some robust constructivism (literacy, masonry and warrior code were also proposed). We are quite clueless about what to do. Making Apocalyptia a SSC is our only idea ...
                            600bc. Chinese build Pyramids. Others change to Colossus. Looks like we might be beaten for this one ...
                            575bc. Sad King Julius is founded on a very average location. At least we get a buffalo and a fish ... and a port. Fitting time to resign.

                              I've build only caravans (except the settler), because I was in doubt (old proverb). We're not powerful and Greeks are around us. We should explore in the north. Our situation is quite bad right now and could bring a interesting challenge when added to the restrictive rules of this succession game. Here is the saved game.

                                If it's not sirsnuggles (who appears to be MIA),
                                then it's time for STYOM to start the 2nd round.

                                Hey, I just noticed La Fayette's not in this one...
