well lets hope this game is different to all others then.

It basically the same in all Civ games i seen. The people who can look at the big boys are too busy building hteir own civ and are worried about going in too early.
Rasputin, repeating the same nonsense doesn't make it true.
For once and for all, BtP knew big fights between big civs. Spara and Rome have waged several wars against each other, Portugal and Khmer were at war with each other for over 100 turns, and in the very end Sparta declared war on Portugal. Metalheads waged a proxy war against Rome, Maya declared war on Rome and the Piercians also did it, to their doom.
The fact that Rome won was not because they remained unchallenged but simply because they were the best.
If you can't accept it that some are simply brilliant at this game you 'd better start questioning your capacities to accept losses.
And every civ has every right to keep peace with everybody, if that's their style of playing this game.
I'd have a problem with 2 big civs declaring war on 1 smaller civ, but accusing other civs for playing a builder game...... I think it's ridiculous.
And for the record, the only civ that bailed out last game to attack a big civ were Rasputin's Vikings. AT the very moment that we were about to attack Rome you quited the game.
So let's drop the issue now and just start to have a positive attitude.
Everybody is having a ball but you're only complaining.

I am still new to CivIV MP, Diplo in any form, and very out of practice in MP in general. What I saw in BtP was new and very different. I had no chance of winning and had to play 'through' bigger powers to gain anything but that was the biggest fun.
Some people are just 'better' than others at certain things. Like it or not we all have weaknesses but Diplo seems to me a great leveler in that respect. You, maybe, cannot hope to defeat someone like Priest or Ozzy on the battlefield, match Toni and Deity as empire builders and better Cyber and his Dutch friends in graphics but you can still tell the stories and engage in the diplomacy. You still have a chance which you would never have in a 'free for all' game. Compete where you can actually win and use others to do your dirty work for you!
For someone who complains that others only play to win you have a very hollow argument. We all play to win - in one way or another - otherwise why play at all? Your real complaint seems to be that you will be beaten by better players but that should not stop you trying. Cyber is a great example to follow in this respect. Ultimate victory is the ultimate goal but that does not make defeat something to be ashamed of. To give up before you even really start is pure folly.
It's not that your views are not wanted, they are wrong.
And now once again you try to hide behind a being-the-victim-role instead of addressing the issues being raised against your vision.

RP cool it. Don't get into arguments over other players views. Raz I dont get why you are being such a downer all the time. I dont know who you are right now but I bet any money you are not dead last and I dont know if you are one of the ones who where in the recent war but I would bet you are doing well for yourself at this point. So please keep the negativity to yourself and instead of giving up to the thought that you will not win just try your best to win anyways. Sometimes the journey is is alot more fun then the end.
Now what I wanted to ask as the turns are getting to 100, can we keep it at 8hr for another 50 turns or can we just do 12hour turns until someone starts a war then change it to 24hrs. I dont know about everyone else but I am enjoying the playing twice a day.

We are very different in civ4 skillz. In normal multi games it's not a big problem: the weak get killed off and they move on. In diplo it's also not a big problem-I just hope that everyone knows what to expect and dont get dissapointed then leave the game or just become passive whatever.
I had great fun playing in BtP with a backward civ, had my small goal and for that i was at war with Rome.. and it could have turned out differently .
Usually it's not civ vs civ anyway but alliances against each other. Even a weaker civ can contribute to this a lot (if nothing else then some propaganda headlines )
We have a civ or two here who cant really play civ4 (I'm saying this by looking at the demographics time to time)-I think they should practice, or even ask for advice. And we have some really experienced players-they should teach us . A trick for example: you can create a similar position in world builder and try some different strategy, way-you could see for example that building worker first always worth it than to wait to get to pop2 and building a worker then.
other subject: I'm suprised no one builds wonders. I know the SH and GW have been build, but quite late and no other wonders. I was afraid to start any because I thought it would be a big race for them and it would suck to lose it. I wonder everyone thought the same?
Only 4 more turns....... can't wait!!!!!
The anticipation is that huge that I have to post about it here!!!!!
Somebody stop me!
Force is always beside the point when subtlety will serve <a href = "http://apolyton.net/forums/showpost.php?p=5759340&postcount=49">Darius order to kill Oroetes</a></p>
4 more turns? what will happen in 4 turns? an other poor civ gets owned? Or maybe you finish a wonder in 4 turns? Well I don't want to make you worry but I'm building 3 wonders atm and all 3 will be ready just in 3 turns, maybe yours is a fourth one, so dont worry, have a nice day :P
I like building Wonders early as failure is its' own success. You lose the race for the Wonder but it enables many turns of deficit financing of 100% research. SP the chances of one of the real goodies are tiny unless you get a religion but the gold you get flowing is so useful. They can see you through to currency and upgrade those useless warriors if the worst comes to the worst. A ray of sunshine is always to be found. GW and SH don't change the world but as for gold; contrary to the old saying 'none of the best things in life are free - they are all very expensive indeed'!
