We find the information very confusing.

The printing of maps with strange figures on them, lines of dates, etc. makes no sense to us. The closest we find to them is the material produced by one of our latest bits of equipment called a computer, but since as we understand it, the Metalheads have only recently gained knowledge of electricity, we can’t fathom what they are. Similarly the main point you seem to be concerned about is that ‘it was fair’ and the other meduian nations acted ‘to even the odds’. This sounds like you think you are playing some sort of game. But this is real life, with the lives of millions at stake.

However, these events are past history as far as we are concerned. We find no great problem with the time line you suggest – and don’t see it contradicts my speech in any material aspects. My speech itself said that “The situation shrouded in confusion” – and simply stated that Roman forces faced forces from across Meduia (which you accept) and that there was Spartan diplomatic involvement. The former you accept; the latter I am not quite sure what you are saying, your words seem rather precisely chosen, but it is of little consequence, the oath-breaking Alexander is broken now.

If there are subtleties here that I am missing, I am sorry. I will leave it to the history and law professors our great universities to work out.

    Marcus, Custos of Rome.

The Metalheads recall their ambassadors from Rome. We shall not listen to any further insults and disrespect from the foul Romans.

We wonder also if the Roman war machine will continue to plow through the Spartans and Japanese now that they have met your demands. We suspect your attempts to place new leadership at the tops of both nations is purely to create confusion in their national structures while Roman troops move in for the kill.

It seems the Romans are a people without honor.

      Re: Meduian Homeland Defensive Alliance

The world is a dangerous place. It was just a short time ago that the Romans and Portuguese placed military on our continent and threatened us with war. The Portuguese navy patrols our shores and continues to threaten the Khmer. Rome continues to spread propaganda and lies against us. The Spartans and Japanese have proven to have no fear in starting massive wars against their neighbors. This world is a dangerous place and our security depends on cooperation.

Therefore, his lord majesty, prince of darkness, Ozzy the Bateater is proposing a Homeland Defense Pact. Different from a defensive pact, and different from an alliance, the terms are enclosed:

      1. All nations of the continent of Meduian are called upon to defend all Meduian pact members from foreign invasion on Meduian soil.
      2. This applies to wars begun by a Meduian member or a foreign power.
      3. This applies to wars currently ongoing or wars yet to begin.
      4. This pact does not apply to colonies, territories and possessions off the Meduian continent.
      5. All nations are expected to provide a reasonable contribution to the continent's defense by boosting their military budget and sharing information.

      Signed,

      Lars Ulrich

From: Chairman Vasili Mikhailovich Blokhin, Council of Transition and Stability
To: Archelaus of Greece, Yoshiro Nakamatsu the Voice of Sato
CC: Civilised Nations of the World

Russia is delighted at the change in Greek Government and hopes that a serious dialogue can now begin between our nations to achieve the Peace that, I am sure, we both desire. The arrest of Alexandra, I hope, will lead to that criminal’s extradition to answer the charges of Crimes against Humanity.

Let this be the last time that Greece wages unprovoked War on Russia and that you will agree to our modest claims for reparations to compensate for the damage done to Russian infrastructure and deaths of her people, civilian as well as military, caused by the previous regime. Please know that Russia is no Vulture seeking to feed off the corpse of any other nation. No demand is made for Greek lands or Cities just a fair settlement for the damages caused to her.

Japan, you are a very different beast! Yoshiro Nakamatsu, if you really exist, know that Russia will offer no compromise. Sato, for I am certain that it is he that I speak to, has led Japan on a ruinous course of vile and perfidious War. Japan broke her Treaty obligations and attacked The Russian Federation, sacking the Piercian Capitol in the process. Thousands of Russian Soldiers died, and yet more innocent Piercian Civilians, during this cowardly and deceitful attack.

These are the conditions that Russia will accept for a Peace Treaty.

        1. The Cities of WildKoPer and PorPer will be ceded to Russia.
        2. You will pay reparations to the sum of 100 Gold per Round for the next 10 Rounds.
        3. All Tank and Infantry under the Flag of Japan in Piercia will be surrendered to Russia.
        4. All other land forces in Piercia will be surrendered to Wyandot.
        5. Any Naval Units at anchor in Piercia will be scuttled.
        6. Japan will return all Wyandot lands and Cities seized.
        7. You will compensate the Wyandot for your criminal War to a reasonable amount of their own choosing - excluding the ancestral Japanese Homeland.
        8. Oldonia will be given its own, very modest, request.
        9. Japan will sign a Non-Aggression Treaty of 100 Years with Pax Romana and Oldonia.
        10. Japan will hand over Sato, the Butcher of Pierced Hill, for an International War Crimes Tribunal.

        These Terms are NON-NEGOTIABLE!

Please be aware Japan, that Russia is no Vassal and requires no 'permission' from a 'Master' to stop or go. Russia does not depend upon Rome for Tank, Infantry or Battleship to be given her to pursue her goals for she can build her own!

Note that NO Japanese Cities are claimed. Russia has never desired a War of Conquest against Japan and has never launched one. Freedom for Piercia and fair recompense for Japan's evil-doing is all that which is required.

A refusal of these Terms will result in far greater loss in a War which Japan must know it can never win!

        Major-General Vasili Mikhailovich Blokhin
Chairman, Council of Transition and Stability

              Blokhin,

Greece will not negotiate with you.
I will negotiate terms of peace with Rome. If you want terms to be included, talk to Rome. Eventhough I have replaced Alexander, I do spit on your grave as Alexander did. Russia is an honourable nation that caused this entire conflict.

You should show some more self knowledge.
You survived this war only because of the Romans. Out of the 4 main-inflicted parties Russia was the least important factor.

Sparta acknowledges the superiority of Rome.
              We bow for Marcus Aurelius.
But we do not bow for you or show you any respect.
I wish that Alexander had burned Novograd to the ground when he had the chance. He showed you more mercy then you have ever shown to Japan while you were only able to stand up against Japan because of Roman assistance.

                Archelaus of Greece,

I understand that you have seized power in Greece. I hope that you are the saviour which the Greek people so dearly need.

However, I am concerend that both you and Yoshiro Nakamatsu appear to be seriously misled by the propaganda driven reports of your generals. They produce attactive maps, but fail to tell the real story. You need to realise that your armies have been defeated. They are now a hollow shell. For a few more years they may give you the appearance of defence, and as true Spartans they continue to fight bravely - the soliders who made the daring raid on Durango should be richly decorated - but they have been defeated. In a few short years, a decade at the most Roman forces will occupy every major city in Sparta. Neither of us want that, though. So let us build a different future.

The starting point in these negotiations is that Sparta and Japan embraced a militarism which launched unprovoked war on the Pax Romana - beginning with the armed ceasure of the Russian capital and the burning to teh ground of a Roman city, and in which many millions of people have died. I realise Archelaus that that is probably an embarrassment to you, but it is the reality. The world will have peace only when this evil cancer of militarism is burnt out from the soul of Sparta and Japan.

Therefore, what is required for peace has two elements:

                A. The destruction of Spartan militarism

                1. An acceptance by Sparta and Japan of their comprehensive military failure.

                2. The handing over of Alexander and Sata to be tried in a Roman military court.

                3. The handing over to Rome of all Spartan heavy weaponry (tanks, destroyers, battleships, save for 2 destroyers for fishery protection duties).

                4. A ban on Sparta developing heavy weaponry (tanks, destroyers, battleships, aircraft) for 50 years.

                5. Guarenteed peace between Sparta and Japan and the Pax Romana and the Oldonians for 50 years.

                6. Rome will guarentee Spartan and Japanese territorial integrity in the new borders for those 50 years.

                B. The Settlement

                7. The historically Korean cities are to be administered by Rome, as a new Roman province of Ultimate Thule (those still in Spartan hands to be handed over).

                8. The remaining Spartan overseas colonies to be handed over to Rome. I believe that this is only Samos, which is currently defended by a regiment of knights and surrounded by a Roman tank division and several infantry formations.

                9. Spartan makes some suitable compensation for Japan for the heavy losses it has sustained.

                10. Sparta retains control of all ancient Greek land, untouched and unmolested.

                11. No further penalties (e.g. no demand of goods, reparations etc.)

                C. Process

The process of reaching peace, Archelaus, can be more difficult than the terms themselves.

A cease-fire will exist between our nations when Spartan and Japanese forces:

                12. Cease moving
                13. Cease taking offensive action
                14. No drafting
                15. Scientific research into Rocketry is ceased.

When these terms are reached, Rome will also comply with the same four terms (ceasings its reserach into military technology).

The cease-fire will end when either:

                16. 3 turns have passed from the beginning of the cease-fire
                17. A peace treaty is signed between Rome, Oldonia, Wynadot, Russia and Sparta/Japan

Save that if Oldonia and/or Russia and/or Wynadot are withholding their agreement unreasonably, when Rome will conclude the treaty / extend the cease-fire.

The purpose of the cease-fire is to give time for the final details of the peace to be worked out, particuarly because of the complexity of the number of nations involved.

I have given these terms in detail, because I would not like confusion to be the cause of this war's continuation.

I trust that you recognise the generosity of these terms. I might point out that whenever Sparta has been victorious in war it has demanded capitulation. The most recent example of the Metalheads also involve a demand for vassalage. Currently Rome is not demanding this, for we recognise Sparta as a noble nation, of great learning. However, the longer the war goes on, the more Roman public opinion will demand it.

The cease-fire lies in your hands Archelaus. Give your generals the orders, if you are truly in control, and within days all guns will fall silent. If however, they continue to fight, Rome will continue (OOC - the cease-fire begins when you have a turn in which you comply with the terms, if you use your turn in a give year to attack, i will respond. The cease fire starts with you choosing to have a peaceful turn).

Choose to preserve the life of many Archelaus. The terms will leave Sparta a great nation, freed from the evil of militarism, a leader in the world. All you need to do is keep you military stationary this next period (terms 12-15 above).

Marcus Custos of Rome, Guardian of the Pax Romana.

Russia has today taken a huge step forward in her Military Capability! The first of the Nevsky Class Battleships, FRSS Alexander Nevsky, was laid down. Due to be commissioned next year this remarkable vessel represents a stunning achievement of Russian engineering! A match for any warship on the high seas she welcomes a 'New Dawn' far a formerly landlocked Nation unable to guard her own seaboard herself against enemies without aid. Russia is proud and Major-General Vasili Mikhailovich Blokhin will personally launch this magnificent 16'' Inch Gunned Vessel!

Also, rolling off the production lines of Russia's great Factories, came the first KV8 Tanks. A wonderful adaptation of Tank design these great vehicles will crush all before them!

This is a wonderful day for Russia, and all her friends, as it will aid Peace and Tranquility to overcome against all odds. The World is in turmoil now with Wars everywhere but Russia stands firm in her desire for Peace!

Russia... your hate blinds you. You demand more from us than you would be able to take from us by force...

By war You wouldnt get the japan army... the money.. not even the cities as they are now because you would have to destroy them before you can take them. you still demand all those...but why should we accept your terms if it's the end of Japan either way?

Japan, do you not understand that Russia simply requires an end to your occupation of Piercia and her very presense upon our continent? Nothing else will satisfy Russia and that is an end to the matter.

There are no arguements or debates on this. Piercia will be a Free and Independent Nation again! Japan is no part of that future.

                            Marcus Aurelius,

Japan and Sparta have done all you requested.
I want to make clear that:
                            - Sparta could take the Roman undefended city in the southern sea
                            - Sparta could take some Oldonian cities
                            - Japan could take some Oldonian cities

We refrain from doing so because we honour this cease fire.
Please don't get the idea that this cease fire is pure charity from Rome. We are aware of our bad position in this war but we are still able to bring damage to your side as well. Keep this in mind when you make your demands.

I will negotiate with you on behalf of the entire Spartan Empire.
Russia will not be a negotiation partner and will be ignored completely by us.

Since we refrain from conquering cities in Oldonia and Wyandonia, we insist that like us, neither the Wyandots nor the Oldonians will move troops or draft new defence units.

From his prison in Athens Alexander II writes the following letter which has been published in the Spartan Tribune:

People of the Spartan Empire, nations of the world,

People ask me if I do fear the Roman War Court.
                              I do not.
I am prepared to defend my actions in front of fair judges.
No crimes have been done by the Spartan armies under my command.

I showed mercy to the Russians when we took Novograd.
Russia speaks about 'unprovoked', it's horrible to hear this. My father, Menelaus II of Sparta, has been murdered by the current Russian leader.
I have lead a hard but fair war against the Russians, and later the Romans. I am prepared to take my responsibilities for that and I am sure that I will return to Sparta after the trials are finished and my honour has been confirmed.

I will then lead Sparta again as the legit Emperor in the line of Alexander the First.
To the international community I ask two things:
                              - Send independent judges to Rome to judge me
                              - Bring Blokhin of Russia for the International court as well

If these terms are met I will reckognize the Tribune in Rome and accept the judgement it makes on me.

                              Alexander II
Emperor of Sparta, Japan and Korea
