  • Marcos of the Maya,

I pity you for the choice you made.
You depict yourself as a free man, while all you had has been token from you.
And you depict Japan as a slave, while Japan got what it wanted. Sparta vowed to fight for the cities Japan had lost, and Sparta succeeded to help Japan to regain Pierced hill.

You can name Japanese people slaves.
I'd rather be a slave in the Spartan Empire myself then a free beggar kicked out of my own homeland by the Romans.

    You ask for free passage.
Of course I am willing to give that to you. Let's sign peace and and open borders so that you can pass through Korea.

Unfortunately you never responded to my offer.
I gave you the opportunity to regain all of your Mayan territory. You apparently refuse such an offer, you even lack the decency to tell me 'no thanks'.
why did you not just ask me what you really want? Perhaps I would have given it to you.

But you choose to be betrayed by the Romans.
And they did so in such a way that you feel superior to the Japanese.
I pity you, but I will do what you ask. Let's sign peace and open borders and you can go to wherever you want.

    Alexander

          • Emperor Alexander,

I also regret that we couldn’t settle a deal, but the demands you had were too heavy. It also had a lot of ifs, which in these days are difficult to sell to my people. The new land will have enough space for our people (even the once now living under Roman rule).
Let’s hope that our road of peace will be a fruitful one…..

            • The Madrid Peace Conference

Many overtures of peace were made from the Meduian Alliance (Holy Romans, Celts and Metalheads) but were ignored by the Spanish and their Roman masters. The war had not gone well for Spain, despite their powerful patron. Four cities had fallen and it seemed likely more would soon fall. The Spanish & Romans won one victory, albeit an important one, defending Pamplona from a Holy Roman naval invasion. All other battles were decidedly won by the Meduian Alliance.

The Alliance, led by the Metalheads, had never wished to crush Spain, and while they were prepared to take more cities, they earnestly wished for peace. However first Isabella, and then Imperator Belesarius of Rome, would have none of it. The Metalheads had no choice but to continue the war. Their forces marched south from Cordoba, intent on taking more cities and proving to the Spanish and Romans that this war was untenable.

Thankfully for Spain, such persuasion was unnecessary. After the chaos under Queen Isabella, and the period of foreign rule under Imperator Belesarius, the Spanish people finally had enough. The army brought back General Alejandro Helvetico from exile, a popular leader who truly had the best interests of his people at heart. The war was costly, and unlike his predecessors, Helvetico was willing to negotiate a fair peace to end the bloodshed.

Ambassadors from the Metalheads, Holy Romans, Celts and Romans gathered in Madrid to discuss how to end this costly war. Many deals were passed around. The sides conferred, discussed, and debated for days. While there was disagreement over the details, all sides were united in a desire for a fair peace. This common goal ensured a successful peace process.

The warring parties reached an agreement. Metalhead diplomats drew up the final copy of the treaty. The final peace treaty:

              • Meduian Territory Restructuring

After the treaty was signed representatives from the Metalheads, Celts and Holy Romans met in private to discuss how to divide up the spoils of the war. Despite building the majority of the military, suffering most of the losses, and conquering the greatest amount of territory, the Metalheads more than anything wanted strong allies on the continent. All Spanish territory taken in the war therefore was given to the Celts and Holy Romans.

Of the three Spanish colonies in New Sparta, it was decided that two go to the Metalheads and one (the largest city, in the north) be given to either the Celts or Holy Romans. Up to the Celts to decide.

Some land however was redistributed so as to ensure as much territorial congruity as possible. As the Holy Roman city of Sushi City was surrounded entirely by Metalhead, Khmer, and Spanish borders it seemed most prudent to transfer control of the city to the Metalheads. Metalhead and Holy Roman cities on Meduian were now organized into two clusters each. This was felt by all parties to be more easily administered.

Furthermore, the Happy Funglish realm, after initially joining the war on the side of the Spanish soon capitulated to the power of the Metalheads. Swearing permanent allegiance and fealty to the growing Metalhead empire. The Celts, agreed to a similar, though much different agreement, pledging loyalty to the Metalheads for a limited number of years until each nation's borders stabilize.

The map of Meduian circa 1832 is enclosed. Compare to the map of 1798.

                • From: Chairman Vasili Mikhailovich Blokhin, Council of Transition and Stability
To: Civilised Nations of the World

It is with delight that Russia hears confirmation of Mayan acceptance of the generous Roman proposals. You shall live as free men once more outside the grasp of Greek Imperialistic ambitions! You are a wise ruler, Marcos, to have escaped their vile and perfidious rule. Better to be at liberty in, freely gifted, new lands than a mere poodle as the untermensch of their Japanese colony are in stolen lands.

The end of the Spanish 'Incident' is also cheerful news. Sadly, Russia has had little opportunity to establish the kind of friendship she would have wished with many of the Meduian continental nations save the fine and gallant Brennus and Russia does not forget the many favours given by Metalhead. It is sad but no others appear to have been interested in speaking with a small nation many miles distant.

My beloved Durya, forgive me, Russia must maintain strict neutrality in your War with Portugal. Russia will ensure that your Grandmother remains safe in Smolensk but cannot turn her back on her ancient Portuguese friends. The rights and wrongs of your conflict remain a mystery to us but we can only pray upon each and every Friday that soon it will end. Know that as soon as War is over for us both I would wish you to visit for I fair swooned at the beauty of your countenance. I would sore wish to take you to visit the Ural Alps and see the true loveliness of Russia for she is far from the urban sprawl and desert that many portray her.

                  • Demons on the shoulders of the Devil

The Russian forces are almost annihilated already by Japan.
Spartan and Japanese armies overpower the Roman forces.
On the fields in Maya and Piercia Roman armies the Spartan/Japanese allies are superior to those of the Romans.

But only those DEMONS IN THE AIR!
Everytime when victory is close they suddenly appear.
Those terrible creatures! They come from the sky making horrible noises.
A demonic glue is encircling them. Bombing the Spartan and Japanese armies.

Without these devils the Empiric armies would have sized the Roman troops already. But there's no defence against these horrors from above.
Everytime when they come the soldiers seek for shelter, but the bombs kill thousands. And then the flies from the abbys have left the cowardish Roman armies quickly arive and kill the still sheltering Spartan and Japanese forces.

                    From: Alexander II of Sparta
                    To: General Pantev of Portugal

General, we contact you to ask you to honour our mutual defence pact.
Roman bombers are tearing our defences apart. We don't have the technology to counter this demonic piece of technology. We know you do.

Please join us in this battle against the tyrants!
Help us to liberate both Piercia and Maya from these suppressors.

By now Sparta and Japan face Rome, Russia and Wyandonia.
Not to mention that the Romans have pushed the Mayans in those most evil pact.
Roman troops have even captured the last standing city of the Mayans, a city Sparta had mercy on not that long ago.
                    These Romans are horrible.

Great General Pantev, please don't abandon your allies and send us help.
At least by sending us bombers and fighters to counter the Flies from Hell.
Very best would be to attack the Roman Pit of Decay from the north.

We are looking forwards to your angels in the sky!

                    • War report

                      Airstrikes on Japanese cities!

Hundreds of civilians got killed in the recent airstrikes and thousands became homeless. The Japanese army has no defense against this coward attack.

General Sato ordered his troops out of Pierced Hill: He said he would rather gave up his defense position and the city than to see the roman murderers bombard the innocent citizens.

The roman army continues to advance. They have the advantage in numbers and in technology, but these are matched by the Japan heroism-the question: how long? The japanese army seems determined to fight for their land till death.

We have some data about the armies and losses involved so far in this war (the continental forces only):

The most advanced troops the japanese lost are riflemen. On the other side among others: tanks, infantries, antitanks, machineguns, cossaks...

(Data is from the end of my last turn. Involved units: those i can see/know about or already got killed)

Murcia's new Bateater Honorary University is nearing completion. In a private ceremony, the reaching of the highest point was celebrated last week. All the town is buzzing in anticipation for the coming opening ceremony. Ozzy the Bateater will perform the ceremony, attended by General Helvetico and other dignitaries.

In related local news, the first students are arriving in town, as there is a surfing competition scheduled off the coast of the La Manga peninsula. Running as favorite is Benigno Batuto, who is expected to have to wrestle for the gold with the Celtic entry Conal Kembell. Kembell arrived in Spain last week, the country of his mother, being the first Celt to be given a student visa after the Struggle.

"The first casulty of war is truth" muttered Custos Marcus looking through the recent wave of propoganda and lies emerging from Japan and Sparta.

"Look at this" Marcus said to this secretary:

Marcus laughs - "we have signed a generous peace with the Mayan. Huge numbers of Romans are leaving their ancient homes in New Portugal, handing over their livelihoods to Mayan, while the Mayan city of Durango opened its doors to Roman officers and settlers in teh greatest population exchange of history. Just because Sparta only understands oppression with its 'capitulate or die' form of diplomacy, it doesn't mean everyone is as barbaric."

Now the truth emerges - this was always a massed alliance of a whole continent against a single smaller nation. And a single division of Roman machinegunners defending teh shipyards at Pamplona brought it to an end, and allowed to Spanish to negotiate a fair peace.
