  • Diplomats from all over the world were coming to old Marco requesting his diplomatic interference in the near by looming crises.

Marco felt that the time has come for Portugal make an official statement concerning the war south.

To the countries at war Russia, Rome and Sparta…….

I apologies for not acting sooner, but age has caught up with me. I am not the energetic leader I was once. I will do my best now to describe my kingdom’s opinion on the matter.

With each of you Portugal have had its difference and past mischief.

    Russia:

    Positives:

During most of our history, our relations have been normal. You have welcomed openly our religions and we thank you for that. To be honest with you there hasn’t been much trust between our people, but still we always found ways to coexist peacefully and that is important.

    Negatives:

That crazy Russ chariot division of yours many many years ago threatened to pillage the North West wasn’t welcomed at all. A small thing indeed, but showed us that the Russ are very unpredictable.

The frozen east, for many years has been the hunting grounds for Portuguese Kings. Portugal’s best deer wander those snowy forests. Indeed Portugal has no cities there, by law it’s not allowed. Those are the king’s lands, I, my father, my father’s father have hunted those lands for ages. I will tell you a funny story my Russ neighbor, just days ago I and my guards were in pursued of a great buck. You have never seen such a magnificent animal. We caught up and I took out my bow and was readying my self to claim this great trophy. Just before to release my arrow, my royal guards called out “Sir, look Russian woodsmen affront of us” I told myself wh*t the f**k! So yes there they were, a band of Russ chopping my forest and building houses on my hunting grounds.

Immediately I returned to my palace and asked the achievers to pull past lands agreements between the Russ merchants and my kingdom. It needed to be checked and sure before an official complain be filed to you. So yes there was an agreement agreed many years ago, valid nonetheless. Seems you have agreed with this as well. So we have a problem here, an illegal settlement on my territory.

Keep this in mind and let all who read this know that yes I am old, but I still can recognizes right from wrong. This illegal settlement can’t never push my kingdom to go to war over it. Portugal is a peaceful kingdom! This is fixable and future talks should resolve the matter in no time now that there is a Russ leader to talk to.

P.S relations haven’t changed – we are indifferent to the Russ Merchants. They haven’t showed any interest towards us for resource trade or knowledge, thus I foresee normality to continue (as it has been for millenniums) immediately after I talk to their leader about where that great Buck of mine went.

    Rome:

    Positives:

Well this is a rather strange relation. Portugal does not hide the fact that Rome and Portugal have become close during the last centuries. And why shouldn’t we? After all much was needed to fix the past, so it was only normal for us to work out our indifferences Now we enjoy trade and the same Jewish deity. Our people now travel and sale their produces in each other’s markets. I personally with my wife some times spend the summer at Rome’s famous baths away from Portugal’s never ending cold, where our old bones can gather some straight. So yes Portugal has enjoyed good relations with the Romans. They have been honest and fair with us, thus we respect them and see them as friends!

    Negatives:

Well there was once a war, that no one except the honest and fair Natives cared and to some extend the Spartans. When we lost 1/3 of our lands. Somehow the world turned their backs on us, even when we were invaded by not one but 2 invaders, just shows you that not all defending themselves free people get the same treatment in times of war. But oh where was I yes the Romans, well I can certainly agree on their violent past. But they have come a long way since those dark times.

    Sparta:

    Positives:

This isn’t hard, and I am proud to declare that Portugal and Sparta are friends, which have had some very beneficial exchanges. I enjoy very much negotiating with them, deals are always productive for both sides.

    Negatives:

This is easy too, but still sometimes I need an extra doze of my herbal medicine to calm my childhood nightmares. When Sparta attempted to interfere and help Portugal in the Great War, but they pulled too soon, due to lucrative gifts from Portugal’s enemies then. Much could have been saved if they only acted. Still the think I like about the Spartans is that there are straight shooters, not long ago an official apology was made by them for their past mistakes. Portugal has accepted and now both countries enjoy dealing with each other.

    NOW about this Roman-Russ WAR.

There should be peace, a peace which should be signed as soon as possible! Both side make a good case for themselves.

Still if anyone cares this is what PORTUGAL thinks:

The treaty the Romans offer has merits, they only want what was taken (razed) from them. I see nothing wrong into asking for your property back, and that is what they want. They want Old Mediolaneum back. Countless times they have underlined their limited operations. Some have twisted to be a war of conquest. The only true reason for the current crisis is Mediolaneum. I trust fully that the Romans will return all taken in exchange for Mediolaneum.

Now I ask Rome to limit itself in not advancing anymore, I support the proposition of the Koreans that peace talks should commence immediately. Lets transfer this fight onto the peace table fellow kings. The killing of Romans and Russ needs to stop right now! They are not the ones who need to pay for past mistakes.

Russ we ask that you lay your terms as well, total war will only hurt both sides even more. Rome has trusted me as a friend, thus I know for a fact that they are seeking only Mediolaneum that has been their goal from the start. I Portugal (Aside the fact we need to solve the buck question) vouch to help you secure and locate new lands for yourself in New Portugal.

To others involved, Rome has worked hard to change since the great change of its government. Do not forget Portugal lost much in the past, but still we have found an common ground and build good relations. I do not see why if Portugal can heal its relations with Rome, why wouldn’t the Russ. We were in the same situation! Who better to say this, than Portugal who has fought two wars with Rome.

I do not expect some of you to agree with the above said, but this has been my experience with the above mentioned countries.

Portugal wishes there to be peace, between both parties. We take no sides, thus our official declaration of neutrality has been made. We offer our diplomatic assistance to both countries.

We accept this ruling by Wise King Marco, and will comply. We trust others will do too. The wrongs of the burning of Mediolaneum and the seizing of one of the riches resource sites in the world have been, to a large extent righted. Let us return to peace.

      • TO: Perdiccus II, King of the Spartans
FROM: Sejong of Goguryeo, Emperor of Korea

        Honorable Perdiccus!

We would first like to congratulate you for your ascendancy to the throne. We hope to work closely with you during your reign; there has been no better friend to Korea than Sparta!

However we are a bit dismayed at your ultimatum. You have asked all nations of the world to close all ties with Rome, lest Sparta close ties with them. That said, and more specifically, you threaten to close all deals with Korea (reminding you that you are legally obligated to provide Iron to Korea for perpetuity) if we do not cancel our open borders with Rome. We feel this is an extreme position.

Firstly, Korea does not share a border with Rome, and it is unnecessary that open borders with Rome be cancelled. Korea will not harbor aggressive forces, so Rome will not be able to sneak them to Greece. Further Rome need not travel through Korea to reach Greece. Therefore this threat is pointless, and only creates more issues.

Secondly, the reasons we need open borders with Rome are many. We have ships that could not return home without these open borders, we have units that could not return home without these open borders. And further we have declared our neutrality in this conflict and have offered, partially successfully (Portugal has seconded our proposal, and Rome as well as Oldonia have agreed to it), peace terms and we see no need for this conflict to continue.

We appreciate Greece's support for a small nation such as Russia, however we find it dificult to reconcile this with Greece clearly attempting to FORCE small nations, who have been great friends to them (such as Korea) to do things against their will. This is not right, and Korea refuses to cancel deals with Rome. We kindly ask, as friends and allies, that you RESCIND your ultimatum.

        • TO: The Senate and People of Rome
FROM: Sejong of Goguryeo, Emperor of Korea

          Great Senate of Rome,

We appreciate your response to our call to a cease-fire, and appreciate the end of your activity in Russia. That being said, we also understand that the "damage has been done" so to speak. That you have already gained the objectives you have liked, so speaking plainly, it is obvious why the alliance against you persists.

I think that, in their wisdom, the Spartan Greeks and their allies would agree to the terms of a mediation so long as we return to a pre-war status quo. That means all gains by Rome should be returned to Russia, and Russia should pay an indemnity for whatever plunder they gained from Rome.

At which point negotiations should begin, clearly the issues that should be discussed are as follows:

          - The status of the lands formally known as Mediolanum
          - The status of Russian settlements in Portugese territory
          - The status of indemnities owed by Russia to Rome for the initial destruction of the former territory of Mediolanum

We believe this is the only way to achieve real peace. We ask that Rome, in its wisdom and honor, please agree to a return to status quo (temporarily) in order to hold these peace talks.

          • Great and Majestic Sejong of Goguryeo, Emperor of Korea

The Senate of Rome is honoured to receive your communication. We have found your servant General Shin Sung to be a wise and thoughful man, and have welcomed your ambassador landing in our territory. But to receive communication direct from you is a great honour.

However, we fear that if we return to the pre-conflict situation, there is no way that the international community could achieve negotiation with the Rus to bring compensation for the loss of Mediolaneum. What pressure do you think you can bring to bear on the Rus, and what compensation do you think could be payable for a prime city site, just a stone's throw from Rome, with stone, copper, iron and silver?

We are happy to have full and frank negotiations with everything on the table. However, we believe that this must be done from the current situation in which in some very rough measure the wrong of Mediolaneum has been righted. How that wrong should be propoerly righted can then be fully discussed, but we have no confidence that, if we were simply to unilaterally withdraw, the Rus would enter serious negotiations about Mediolaneum.

We say this openly and frankly, because we recognise the wisdom in your proposal, but we have to be honest that if we were to unilatarily withdraw we don't believe the Rus would enter serious negotiations.

            • Sparta and Japan know that these Romans are nothing but lying warmongers who will attack anyone weaker then them. Those evil Romans are honorless dogs that have poisoned the minds of many to make themselves look like they are a changed nation when in reality the only thing that has changed is their manner of hiding who they truly are. They say that we have shown who we are but we have NEVER hid who we are. Rome will fall and unless they give back the city they took without protest I will personally burn Rome herself to the ground.

strange how those further from us have this mystical insight, while our neighbours live in peace with us. Anyone would think Sparta and Japan had long ago decided they wanted war with Rome and were waiting for an excuse. But, hang on, they actually admitted that ...

Rome, don't get me started on your neighbours.
They all fear you, that's why they don't speak up in public. You have no friends. Only scared neighbours.

And about General Caetius and his army, they pity you and came to the Spartan Phalanx army where they resigned. They don't want to fight for you any more because they consider you a pathetic barbaric leader.

Even your own people spit on you.

Perdiccus became angered very much while he read it, and decided to answer it in private, because of the long term friendship between Sparta and Korea.

                      • Sparta and Japan - the new western alliance - your attempts to twist and turn do make me laugh,

Japan proclaims that I plot against those I call friends. Why don't you enlighten the world and name one? I have never plotted against a friend, nor will, and the treaties of friendship I sign are inviolate. While you of course came here proclaiming a new friendship and within days proclaimed war.

Sparta suggests my neighbours fear me and that is why they don't speak up. Strange since my neighbour Portugal has spoken clearly and we have accepted his judgement. Did you miss that? My neighbours have non-aggression pacts with me, which I have public acknowledged, and know they need fear nothing. While Perdiccus on the other hand gets very angry when he hears of his neighbours' neutrality so angry that he is not prepared to admit publicly what his response is - sounds like peaceful Korea is about to be threatened.

                        • The Oldonina goverment urge the Russians to search the archives for the original land border agreement with Rome, we too remeber that rome settled on land agreed t obe the Russians.

The russians have been squeezed into a small tight corner of the world and it is time that those who think neautrality is possible relaise the facts.

Every nation with open borders with rome has helped the murder of the russians. Those gold coins you giving to him in trade are paying for his troops.

There is no nuetrality in war in this world. You are openly aiding the invader by giving them gold every turn.

Now as to this cease fire it is only enacted as Rome has achieved its goals. So this is not over.

No nation should allow a nation the size of rome to invade smaller nations.

We call on the world especially the larger nations to do sometihng about this.

                            • Sparta has broken all ties it had with Korea.
Even a last attempt to heal things was being ignored by Korea, who continued to talk about peace and beauty but factually cared more about their own iron resources then about the children and women of Russia.

Sparta is a nation of honour and will continue to supply Korea with iron, as agreed on.
All other deals Sparta has offered to Korea are considered to be void.

Korea got a lot from Sparta, but refused to help Sparta even in the smallest possible way while Sparta was in a war to help friends.

Korea may be lucky that Sparta is their neighbour! If it would've been Rome then Roman armies would now be marching through Seoul.

Perdiccas is very angered by these nations who are selfish and only thinking about themselves.
Sparta will take note of these nations, and will certainly not come to their aid if they need help.

Nations like Japan and Oldonia will certainly be helped by Sparta though! We will not forget!

I ask you to close your borders with Korea and end all deals with Korea. They apparently have chosen side with aggressors of Rome.
I am really saddened by this fact and hope that a new General Bae will stand up soon in Korea, so that our relations can be healed again.
