  • The Mali do understand & are incredibly contrite about it. There was no intent to cheat on our part-we simply didn't understand that rule (though it does make perfect sense). For the record, attempts were made to get a screenshot of the actual last turn we played-but could not find it in the Screenshot folder. We foolishly believed that if we simply advanced the turn, maybe that would help-but it didn't. Then after 2-3 turns of trying, we gave up-only to find about 5 screenshots in a completely seperate screenshot folder (the danger of having multiple copies of the game on the computer we suspect).

Needless to say, it will never happen again, & if any punishment needs to be meted out, then we will accept it-though we hope you will be merciful.

They are definitely clustered, so I'm sure you'll find out the true resource distribution when you've explored more of the map. I have given you all good start locations, so it is likely your capital has prolific resources. I don't want to comment too much about the resources. That's for you guys to find out.

Perhaps. Then again it could provide an incentive to go to war and capture valuable centers of resources. If capturing one city could give you an exclusive monopoly on some particular resource, then that is a pretty big reason to go to war.

Not really a feature. I was editing the map and some former plains tiles became mountains. I didn't edit out the huts, so there are some huts now stranded on the top of mountains where units cannot go. But if you build a city nearby you can pop the hut with your culture.

        • Guys, can you please edit out those ugly OOC posts in the story thread?

The thread will look so much nicer if it is pristine IC.

Maybe Cyber or Ozzy could delete the actual posts?

          • I dunno, I've always liked a small smattering of OOC posts in story threads. We've always had them (as long as its not too much).

                  • this was fiercely discussed in the week prior to start. I wish you had been more vocal then. under the current system, which I clarified at least once, each tech you give to another civ = 1 tech trade.

if you give 1 tech to 2 civs, that is 2 tech trades
if you give 4 techs to 1 civ, that is 4 tech trades
each time a tech is traded, you move one step closer to your max 10 limit. can I make this any clearer?

now what you are saying about obsolete techs and backwards nations might be a valid point. however, I am very reluctant to introducing new rules after the game has started. of course, noone has alphabet yet, (I hope or I'm really backward), so nothing has happened techtradingwise on this session. but your suggestion seems to me to be very unmangeable, because it would require a lot of book-keeping, noting down when every tech you have is invented is simply not practical.

                    • That is quite true; we can't change rules like that once the game starts.

BTW Do we have any limits on trading the specific tech's? I seem to remember hearing something about no trading Alphabet and certain other techs, It would make sense.

when you type that into your URL (address line in internet explorer/firefox) you should get up the dialog box prompting login info. or you can just click the link

the login info should be written as this (my own example)
USER NAME: diplo mongolia (no underscore)
                        PASSWORD: *****

that should put you right in there. works like a million yen for me.

                        • i dont seem to remember we deciding conclusively that alphabet was off limits, but the value of alphabet is now huge, so it might limit the proliferation of it. on the other hand, in the real world, there aren't that many alphabets out there. or rather, most of them come from some other place. alphabet is one of the most spread techs in the world. real world that is.

                          • Realism vs. Game balance

Anyhow doesn’t a real world culture that has to change the alphabet so it works with its language, basically research it?

                            • hmmm. I don't know. I would say though, that the invention of the alphabet is vastly more complex than adapting it to your language.

if we were to vote I'd say no techs are off limits for trading. it will regulate itself.

Yes, so do I, however as I stressed to you during the test that I was available for in not so many words you went and made a slew of decisions in the middle of the busiest section of an already busy work week, and had the entire thing completely "discussed" by "everyone" in a matter of three days, all of which I was stuck at work working longer-than-normal hours, and was therefore directly cut from discussions.

Capo also suggested that it was being overly rushed to start (I admit I wanted to start as well), and I got the shaft and was physically unable of being more vocal and I can't stress any further that work caused it, and it wasn't just because I didn't feel like saying anything and that it was moving too quickly in that entire rulesets were changing in the span of single days that I was unable to keep up with the forums due to having a job.

Forgive me if I sound bitter, here, but I was just told, in not so many words, to STFU because I could have said something earlier at a time I was unable to say anything for about the third time.

That's fairly clear, apparently I missed this clarification earlier what with, you know, working. I think this is inherently stupid, overly-limiting, and had I been able to comment on it earlier, would have stressed then that I feel it is as such and would have suggested my alternative to it, as it is a far better method, in my opinion, and doesn't overly gimp nations.

You are, in essence, completely removing the concept of offering assistance to Third World nations, because why the hell would I ever give away a tech to a needy nation when they can't give me anything in return for it?

You have, in essence, created the divide that the lower echelons will have from the higher echelons insurmountable, and forced empires that had either weak starts or lost a skirmish into unimportance.

Have I mentioned I think a hard limit of 10 is a terrible idea?

now what you are saying about obsolete techs and backwards nations might be a valid point. however, I am very reluctant to introducing new rules after the game has started. of course, noone has alphabet yet, (I hope or I'm really backward), so nothing has happened techtradingwise on this session. but your suggestion seems to me to be very unmangeable, because it would require a lot of book-keeping, noting down when every tech you have is invented is simply not practical.
You don't have to. The log is saved forever. You can easily just click on the Log button, scroll back to when the tech was researched, and look at the dates.

The game keeps track of it for you.

                                Me.
