      • It's official, Arjuna the Archer is the most well-known character in our game so far. Even thousands of years after his glorious death far away people come to India to challenge him and other people erect statues for him 8)

        All hail Arjuna!

        • well, I finally finished reading this thread and while I have no objections to any scoring system you guys have adapted I was a little surprised no one suggested something I thought of.

Perhaps for the next diplomacy game, which I hope to be a part of, we could consider points awarded for consistant participation. In other words, if you show up every day the game is scheduled to play, you deserve a reward. If you can't show up, but find a sub, you should not be penalized. But if you leave the group hanging without a sub, you don't deserve as many points as someone that makes a serious commitment.

Personally, I don't give a tinkers damn if I win or not. This game concept isn't about winning, its about participating. I look forward to being the new guy that will teach you all how to be a diplomat. Who knows, I might even have a shot at winning, although I won't alter my game style one bit based on how you are going to score the game.

Something to consider for next time perhaps.

now that is about the best idea so far....

just add to it a point for each post in story thread and it will be perfect.

                        • You really wouldn't want to give one point per post, or people would be competing to see who can make the most posts instead of actually playing a good diplo style game. If I were to make a recommendation, I would say that, for each game session, each player could earn zero, one or two points. If a player does not post anything in the history thread, they earn zero points for that week. If they post something, they deserve one point, but, if the other players feel that their post is exceptional in some way, they can actually earn two points.

Of course, that would require a weekly review of each players posts by the group, and would mean probably yet another thread, but it would reward the more creative posts, and punish the players that aren't participating or are participating but only half-heartedly.

                          • (Pst: Levi, Kuno, the world (Terra) is burning, and instead of visiting the meeting of Haakon in the lands of the Vikings, you guys are arguing over the diplogame victory conditions....

                            • Hey Ozzy. Though its been awhile since I was last in a Diplomacy game (much to my shame), I love your ideas for point-scoring. I am also a huge fan of Sevo's Mastery Victory mod, so I guess that makes sense.
Have you guys considered this as an extra 'twist' for your diplomacy games (eventually): In the first half of the game, Religion is an integral part of diplomatic relations and the earning of income, yet once Free Religion becomes available, the importance of religion drops away. Well what if there were something to 'replace' the role of religion, like Ideologies? One of my key projects for next year will be an Ideology Mod. In it, the discovery of key technologies will lead to the founding of key ideologies-like Fundamentalism, Communism, Capitalism, Libertarianism, Fascism, Militarism and Nationalism (and possibly Socialism as a softer form of Communism). Now in some ways they would work like religions-i.e. bonus happiness and culture for cities that share your state ideology a few special buildings which can be constructed in those cities and diplomatic bonuses and penalties based on Ideological lines. Unlike Religions, though, each ideology would also carry certain benefits and penalties, like Fundamentalism might give you a bonus priest and bonus happiness in State Religion Cities, but at a cost of unhappiness from non-state religions.
So, anyway, would you guys be interested in adopting such a mod for your games? I reckon it would add a lot of spice to the a latter eras of the game, IMO, especially if spies had the ability to 'Spread State Ideologies' and 'Remove Non-State Ideologies' from cities .

                              • That sounds really cool. We had a few ideas for diplogame mods that we'd like to play around with at some point. We wanted to play through one Warlords game straight before we started modding, and we are right in the middle of that one now.

I'll try to bump and link the thread we had discussing possible mods.
