you have fun too. just remember to tape your ears. I've heard they can be torn off. :scary:
and as for the moker issue, I admitted that I wasnt quite up to speed on what was going on. I just logged in to see people fighting. and as for the turn progression, that happened cause the only one who hadnt ended turn that save was Rykoffe and he wasnt logged in, so the AI advanced the turn. which is possibly the dumbest possible situation to save the game in. if we hadnt done that, which we really shouldnt have in the first place, then the issue would never have occurred.
as for moker not being there, that was a problem. if he had been there then the whole situation could have been avoided. but he chose to smoke instead. for a long time, I remember us trying to get a hold of him through ozzy at the time. another reason why smoking is bad, it ruins empires
otoh, there is a difference leaving your civ to the AI for one session expecting dumbness and having the AI "forced" on you, doing idiotic things on a crucial turn. I say "forced" cause we (not willfully) let the turn advance when not all players were present, moker included. the fact that he wasnt there doesnt exactly speak in his favor, but that is still the case.
now as we have already played the following session there is no way out of this but to get someone else for rome, unless moker wants to take over what is probably an even weaker (comparatively) Rome. The thing is, this is still a diplogame. Rome has many options besides conquest. a deal with inca, china, england, arabia, bulgaria or whomever their neighbours are can turn the tide in their advantage. their UU is still THE strongest creature around. there will probably be at least another 2 sessions before anyone got macemen so they're still fearsome. the whole point of diplogames is that you dont have to give up even if you're not top dog. and Rome has Iron and Praetorians. How bad could it be?
roll with the punches is very important in a diplogame. the issue here is that moker, and ozzy (and I) feel that the particular punch in question should have been avoided. too late now though.
I feel like loading up the save and taking a look at Rome's position. I'm not going to, but I feel rather confident that with some diplomacy rome could easily gain itself a decent empire. it seemed to me that moker didnt even try making any friends or allies, I even heard rumours that other civs were going to attack Rome because of their aggression towards china. he really did an awful job at playing the propaganda game, which is why I assumed that he was new to the diplo experience.
I dont think he even posted once on the story thread.
We ended up with only having about 10 active human players and things worked out ok.
In fact, joining all at once seemed to work better since hotjoiners didn't always connect to every player (they would come in and get some 0 pings) which would stall the game. Except for a few drops, we are learning how to navigate the game, and who blocks who, etc...
Hi, I will be subing in for Colonel_Trieze in tomorrows session. He has sent me all info on his civ. I will be better prepared this time.
Last time I subed,(for England), I didnt understand fully what a diplo game was... . Anyways if there is a session on for tomorrow you can find me on yim at Conquistador45civ4 Thx

Ok, Conquistador45, keep your eye on the story thread, I'm gonna make a post there soon for your benefit, and I'll want a response.
@Ozzy: Just a point of clarity regarding the story: I don't know if you read my first and only story post, but Treize Kushrenada (he's not a Colonel or called Colonel) came from outer space, and was only actually ON the planet for a few weeks every hundred years or more, due to the time dialtion of the planet. He always appointed a line of succession to rule in his stead while he was 'in the sky'. He is just what you said, a mythical figure to them.
Moreover, he wasn't deposed. He did exactly what I did, passed on the mantle of mentoring this wayward civilization to his more streetwise companion from the spaceship. I informed Conqui of this and he will incorporate that into the story.
In the article you wrote Ozzy, you said it is a good idea to collaborate on stuff like this so the story makes sense.
Canuck never replied, btw. When I asked Conqui though, he jumped at the opportunity to return. Have fun, guys!
