In fact Tony, why don't you pester him for some tech trades and question every trade he makes while you're at it? I'm sure you'll come to love him as much as I do.

I have IMed Glohthia he should be available tomorrow too. We should let him know soon if we need him. If MMC is no longer interested in playing, then Glohthia is interested in taking over permanently for him (or anyone else).

I am available to play tomorrow (sunday) at 4:30pm CDT. Basically an hour earlier than normal start.
I have a strange schedule that prevents me from committing 100% to any one time, but Id like to try to get in this game in a more permanent role if possible. If it causes too many problems, no worries from my point of view. Maybe the next one.
After subbing twice, I must have caught something. Im no doctor, but I think it is a CIV diplo fever In spite of yesterdays stellar session even!
Don't be disappointed if OT and LZ can't play at that time, remember that it's sunday evening and they might not be able to play at that time (till 4am their time)
I prefer to play earlier and stop earlier as well.
In fact I do not just prefer that but won't play till 4am my time but at most to 2.30 my time. If we start one hour earlier then we can play 3 hours.

Yeah, it wasn't a fight. We were just reaching an understanding, which was reached based on the fact that the Internet Gundams are patroling this area.

1. Last: Once again: ALL PLAYERS SHOULD CHECK THEIR CONFIGURATION IN ADVANCE!
Don't say: "My firewall is off, I never have in on", just CHECK IT! Even ifyou're 100% sure that it's off. I check it EVERY session in advance.
Unlike most people it seems, I know what all the little icons mean, such as the red sheild which is Windoze complaining that that there is no firewall. Plus, I know from past experience that my particular firewall (the software one, I don't know about the hardware one which is new to me atm) doesn't cause problems when playing games, so if I forget to switch it off, then I know that that isn't going to be a problem (I do switch it off just before each game anyway). Also, the firewall that is included in Windoze Security Center which is installed with SP2 is only ever switched on automatically DURING THE INSTALL OF SP2. Even then, it only happens if you don't already have a firewall installed and running. I am willing to accept the Windoze Update may do the same thing IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANOTHER FIREWALL INSTALLED.

2. Check if your router is configured properly, or even better: DC YOU ROUTER and connect your PC immediately to your modem.
A) Most people who use a router have the small problem of the modem being an integral part of the router.
B) In my particular case, I can't really do anything with the router as I don't have control over it. However, this may change in the next 2-3 weeks.

3. Turn graphics LOW LOW LOW LOW
Since the actual graphics are not sent over the Internet (if this was the case, no-one would need the game installed except for the host), this will not make a single shred of difference, unless you do not have the minimum specs to play Civ4. If you use onboard graphics or your graphics card doesn't have the minimum amount of memory, then your CPU and main Memory will take over some of the processing, thus limiting the amount of cpu time available for the networking parts of the game. However, if your system exceeds the minimum specs, then this point can be ignored safely - especially if it exceeds the reccomended specs.

4. Close ALL progs you're running, that includes virus scanners
This is common sense. However, applications with low memory footprints such as Firefox, Opera, or IM clients shouldn't make too much impact, at least if you run the game in windowed mode. just don't have them all open at once, and make sure the one you want are open before you connect since they use a lot more memory whilst loading than when they are idling.

5. Reboot just before the session!!!!
When your system is like mine, this can destablise your system to a worrying degree. Always use your common sense as each PC is different.

6. All install AIM and stay in the chat
Definitely common sense. If you do not wish to install AIM, then install Trillian or Gaim, or contact someone who has an account on a different IM protocol such as MSN, Yahoo, or you can try IRC.

7. All use WINDOWED mode for the game, it has been proven that the windowed mode players cause little problems.
If you don't know how to set windowed mode, just google for "Civ4 Window Mode" (first entry should be a simple guide on CFC) or ask someone in the chat. It might be a good idea to set your game to 'ask' mode if you don't want windowed mode during your singleplayer games.
As for tomorrow, I can definitely make it, and I'm perfectly willing to continue, even if certain others may not like it.
