  • I have a very stupid question:
When we're playing, who do you see me as
    NicodaMax or Huyana Capac

which in fact makes all in-game diplomacy useless. I can talk all I want, I'm talking against someone who's just a puppet of the player. gamewise.

That means that CyberShy should talk to OzzyKP for the realy diplomacy stuff, which is really out-of-character.

      • Well, its up to the individual player. but history is like that. one minute everything is hunky dory, the next the leader is dead and a new one has taken his place upsetting diplomatic relations. I find that an interesting aspect of this game.

If we were to consider the diplomatic relations as 2 separate values this would all be totally free of problems.

        1. the relationship between the current rulers of two countries.
        2. the ingame historical relationship between the two countries.

the first relationship is temporary and will change with new rulers. the second is the overall credibility and trustworthyness of that nation, either totally or in relationship to certain other nations.

think of it as a +/- thing. Each ruler has a certain positive or negative effect on the overall relationship between the countries. If india and germany has a (hypothetical) closeness ratio of +5, a war between them will maybe subtract -1 or more depending on the nature of the war.

I'm not suggesting that we actually make math out of this, but that we consider the overall nature over several sessions as a background for the current rulers activities. if a nation changes course drastically very often then they will be considered unstable and untrustworthy. if a nations rulers stays the course over a long time they will work up a reputation as a reliable and accountable empire.

great for the roleplaying in all ways.

        • Agreed Lz.

Since we are moving into the first real war this game has yet experienced, I'd like to remind everyone of the combat rules (or suggestions I guess) for diplogames:

          1. War should be for limited, tactical, or role playing purposes. Don't go to war to wipe out the other player (except for the end game perhaps).

          2. Taking capitols is poor form.

          3. Taking and keeping cities with a lot of wonders in them is poor form.

          4. Don't be so arrogant you continue a war until you cripple an opponent (or until they cripple you).

This gets down to judgement by the characters, not the players I guess.

            But I tend to agree on points 1, 2, & 4.

            1) Agreed - It's not a war game until possibly the end game, but I prefer a Space Race (contrary to popular belief!)

            2) Agreed - As 'Lizard' in HOTW4 I held back from taking the Roman capital (Ljube), even though I had massive knights and his cap was defended by ONE Pikeman. My in-game character benefited by NOT taking the capital. If I had it would have been everyone against me for sure...

            3) I disagree with ozzy on this. If it fits the storyline so be it! Not the same as a capital.

            4) Agreed - Although the Mali in HOTW2 may disagree ozzy DON'T EVER LET ozzy GET THE EQUIVALENT OF HOWITZER! IT GOES TO HIS HEAD

Taking the capital is not really friendly indeed. But the 'owner' of the capital should count it's blessings, surrender, and be a puppet-state for quiet some time. Of course it means *something* if you can come that far!

Hehe, that's exactly what I was referring to. Mali were the ones who were arrogant and risking being crippled. I kept offering peace and she kept refusing.

Like if you had all those knights around Ljube's cap and you then offered peace and he said "screw you, I won't rest till you're dead." Then what would you think?

Of course I never took her cap. But she only has herself to blame. hehe

                • Exactly, if someone is stubborn and doesn't want to pay a reasonable price for peace, then take the cap.

And I agree with deity as well that cities with a few wonders can be captured. Protect them better if you like them

You do not have a 1.60 version up and running anymore? Maybe it's better that you get a 1.60 running since that'll be much easier then we get a 1.61 up. Most of us will not wake up soon enough before the game to download and install it in time.

safer before I think. We'll lose time for sure otherwise...

                              Nicoda I think.

I had to hard code it in the txt config file to change mine from Ian Adkins to deity (or Elizabeth which I'll use this session). As host I was unable to change it any other way.

                              • I don't agree with Ozzy's point that you shouldn't take capitals or cities with wonders.

C'mon, that makes no sense, often the capital is the goal in wars. As far as wonders go its the same, so I don't agree with this at all and if Spain has to Spain will take capitals, take wonders, and if provoked RAZE them.

But only if it is necessary.
