How about a new point of view?

Why don't we just kill all the Jews, and then we won't have to have this thread come up every other week? I've got your attention now? I'm kidding, of course, I don't want anyone to kill any Jew or anyone else for that matter. My point is, STOP! Stop asking about your favorite civ, stop asking if this civ or that civ should be included, just stop it!... because, you know what? No one cares. Nobody cares if you think the Babylonians, or the Sumerians, or any other peoples should be included as a civilization in the game. Either make them yourself as a mod, or keep this crap to yourself, because I, and countless others are tired of seeing these threads and no amount of complaining or begging is going to get Firaxis to include them. If they ever do include the civ you want, consider yourself lucky, otherwise, again, do it yourself or STFU!

No offense intended to the OP'er, it's just been done too many times before, and seeing this one was the proverbial "last straw."

Well, that wasn't the point of this thread. There really hasn't been any in this thread so far, albeit you are complaining rather mightily.

Many cities are already in lists twice, with different names (Civ 3 had a massive amount): London/Londinium, Gades/Cadiz, etc. I made lists in Civ 3 where Aleppo had a different name depending on who controlled it at the time (from Yamhad with the Hittites on), and that included Hittites, Persians, Arabs, Mongols, and Ottomans.

I have a list of ancient Hebrew cities from my CTP days (I never agreed with their lists)... only a couple are repeats from other civs in the game now.

No offense taken. I do understand your point.

Yet there are a few threads I don't really care for, either, and all I do is ignore them when I get to them. Once in a while, a post may change my mind, but if it all seemd like the same, uh, thing, I just pass it by.

                  Sorry about the off topic.

I see your point. I will repeat what I've said in the past - which civs are in isn't really important to me in these games. It's just some extra flavour, and I prefer some civs to others, but it's fairly minor to me.

However, you are very much wrong with your "no one cares" sentiment. You may not care, but among those who do care are, in fact, Firaxis designers. Why do you think they ran a poll about new civs and leaders after Civ4 was released? There have even been threads on the forums by Firaxis designers asking what type of leaders people want to see in Civ. Not to mention the well-known fact that Firaxis designers read the forums often, with civs being a commonly debated issue.

So, again, while I see where you're coming from, you're making an incorrect assumption.

Indeed. I always thought it was interesting that in the city lists, the Byzantines and Ottomans have the same capital: Constantinople/Istanbul.

As for the Hebrews, Jerusalem has belonged to numerous civs throughout its history, but I think that making it the Hebrews' capital is the best option. It's certainly better than making it the 30th city on the Romans' list or something.

I concede defeat gentlemen (Solver, Alexander, and Virdrago) I now see why the Hebrews might be a good choice. But as stated above, unless modded, we cant do much about it...

Well, that's one of the best parts of Civ4. Adding a new civilization is really simple and straightforward, so anyone who wants to have Hebrews can indeed easily have them .

Which (and how many) civs has always been of fair importance to me. Mind you, it has never been as important as actual gameplay as a whole or how well the AI performed. However, as exemplified in Civ3, when I sat down to play a good ol' game of Civ and come across Hiawatha, or some of the other yobbos in that game, I felt like I was playing Colonization, which would have been fine, had that been the game I sat down to play. The civs provided me with the "feel" of the game. Which was why I was excited about Civ4, as both the civ and leader selections looked promising.

Indeed. The extensive moddability of Civ4 is one of its best attributes. And I know for a fact that a good Hebrews mod with 2 original leaderheads is available on CFC.

But that wasn't really the point of my thread. I wasn't intending to beg or complain about the Hebrews. I simply meant to discuss the reasons why the Hebrews might (or might not) be added to the game, and why Firaxis has not done so so far.

But this has been a very interesting thread so far -- a very interesting debate, which I always love.

I agree with you on the "extra flavour".
This game is about remaking history so what is the big deal if i.e. Cairo is an Egyptian city or a Aztec city? -- I hope my point is taken clearly, although sometimes I like my game to be a bit historical. But if it's not perfect in the aspect of city names belonging to specific civs, either way I am content.
