hahahahahahahahahaha... this is the last post i will go OT... this isnt your "SPAM FORUM" that we have fun in banana man. this is where intelligent strategests and modders come to debate topics about civ. so unless you have something to add to the topic at hand... go run back to the OT forum where you can get away with this nonsense...Order of the Fly

I was under the impression from my World History classes in college that the Bible(Torah) was a prime source of historical information. One of the only prime sources from that long ago in fact. In the 3 History books I have, all three make major references to the Bible(Torah), more-so than any other historical document in fact. So I wouldn't dismiss it so lightly as a reliable source.Originally posted by AAHZ
Solver and Alexander,
As was pointed out by Tatilla the Hun earlier in this thread, how do we know the Bible to be a reliable source? I dont want this to turn into a religious debate, and it seems the role of devils advocate has fallen on my shoulders, so ill do my best.
When i think of civs i think of Prussia not Germany, and the Franks not the French...as was pointed out by Solver in an earlier post. Those civs withstood invasions, were conqured and divided, and still came back to stand today. now to my next point...
ive NEVER liked the aztecs. though it is fun to pretend to be them, they did not do much in history, were easily conqured, and lost to time. the hebrew people were slaves in egypt, and their kingdom ravaged by others. though this is sad, we go back to the bible being a reliable source...
Finally terrorists aside, i might be totally wrong, and firaxis WILL include them later on, and i will eat my words. but i stand FIRM by my vote. I mean to offend nobody and if i have i am deeply sorry... piece
p.s. These were World History courses at a secular college.
And on the note of the Aztecs, they were a major civilization in the pre-Colombian Americas. Actually, I bet you would be amazed at the capital city of Tenochtitlan. They developed a very unique agricultural system called the chinampa system. To quote Bernal Diaz del Castillo " And when we saw so many cities and villages built in the water and other great towns on dry land ant that straight and level causeway going towards Tenochtitlan, we were amazed...on account of the great towers and temples and buildings rising from the water and all built of masonry. And some of our soldiers even asked wheter the things that we saw were not a dream? It is not to be wondered at that I here write it down in this manner, for there is so much to think over what I do not know how to describe it, seeing things as we did that had never been heard of or seen before, not even dreamed about." So I assume this place was a marvel, even from the rest of the world had they not heard of or seen anything so magnificent as this capital city of the Aztec in the middle of a lake. I will stop writing about the Aztec, I suggest you read up on them.
As far as the Hebrew being considered for "membership" in the game, well, either way I am content. I love all the extra civs for the "extra flavour"."I aspire sir, to be better than I am" - Data

ok... you have just solved one of the major arguments in history. scholars have lived and died trying to prove or disprove it. but your college class is far more prestigious...Originally posted by Jonah5

blah blah blah... they were wiped out. smited. did you know they found Phillistine POTTERY from before christ? you dont see their achievements from the BIBLE in civ do you?Originally posted by Jonah5

very well...
but me being a christian i DONT dismiss it at all. like i said many times in this thread, im simply playing devils advocate. BTW your insight into the Aztec people is fascinating. let it be known that while i disapprove the Aztecs in civ, i personally admire them as a people. but again for ARGUMENTS sake, i simply took a different position. as the devils advocate...Order of the Fly

the Bible (Torah)
The Torah is actually only the first five books of the Bible, the 5 Books of Moses or Pentateuch. Jews call their Bible (what Christians call the Old Testament,) the Tanakh, which is a type of acronym for the 3 parts of the text, Torah (Law), Nevi'im (Prophets), and Ketuvim (Writings). The Apolytoner formerly known as Alexander01

Time was when this would be cited as a reason TO add the Hebrews to the game. How cowardly we have become.Originally posted by AAHZ
solver,
i didnt want to go into detail but i guess i should. quite simply it would offend iran and the palestinians and terrorist organizations who have spies all over the world. say one of these spies sees the hebrews on one of our games and a figure like king soloman leading them and jewish music in the background. these radical islamists would get quite offended and i think we all know how dangerous that can become. perhaps there will be no lawsuits, and reading too much into this or not, i know personally how much some terrorists flat out HATE the jewish people and how the trouble in the mid east for decades has mirrored this fact. this is very very sad to me but im afraid its the truth of our world. i just dont see firaxis adding them anytime soon... piece

Wait since when does Firaxis care what Iran thinks? I doubt the Farsi version of Civ sells all that well...

I concur. I may have even made that point back in the days of the Anti-Mali thread, may it rest in peace.Originally posted by Bkeela

The Israelites' cultural contributions to the world are much greater than those of the Malinese, whose lasting achievements have been indirect at best. But I don't mean to open up that particular can of worms again...

The Hebrews would definitely be an interesting diversion from, say, Montezuma (who somehow ALWAYS ends up in my games). The whole "it would be offensive to add them" theme sounds a bit unrealistic and ridiculous to me in this, the 21st century. Besides, the Hebrews have had an immense cultural impact on the world.
