I thought the same thing you did, but the major problem is that the 3-hammer tile below and to the right of the settler is impassible. I think it's a bug that the game actually put hammers on it, which is why I took a shot of it.Plenty of food and hammers plus a very defendable spotComment

Those are some really detailed trees. Perhaps I should start chopping them all down and see if the game runs better.
