Am I the only one who really doensn't care about which civs are in the game?
I care about the game rules, the way it plays, the possibilities, the interface, etc.
Which civs are exactly in the game doesn't matter to me.

Mali != middle of the Sahara, or even Sahara at all. The Niger river valley is quite fertile, and was even more fertile when Mali ruled. It was in fact one of the most fertile regions on the planet before desertification set in a couple of centuries ago.

I could make a few additions to that, but he knows his history well enough to get the point across. IMO Mali was more important than certain other civs, such as the Aztec, Americans or Koreans (and certainly the Zulu).

Mind you, Ethiopia wouldn't have been a bad pick either, but Mali is most certainly worthy as well.

Exactly - It is a marketing choice.

And besides, I like the American civ being in my games.

It makes a valuable ally or an entertaining enemy!

            ditto
anyway, i expect that modders will create literally every civ possible later for anyone to download, so who cares about what is in the game
still, i would appreciate not having ctp nightmare mentioned earlier and being destroyed by omnipotent micronesian empire. that is plainly ridiculous.

I'm well aware of the glorious Malinese antiquity.

I just felt like ranting and raving because Mali still seems out of place in a Civ game with no Greeks. Heavens.

You never know... Greeks might still make it in at the expense of some other civ.

                  Oh, I know.

It's just fun to rant every once in a while.

I really don't care which civs are in as long as the Celts are definately in.

                      CIV1 had 14 factions:

                      Americans
                      Aztecs
                      Babylonians
                      Chinese
                      Egyptians
                      English
                      French
                      Germans
                      Greeks
                      Indians
                      Mongols
                      Romans
                      Russians
                      Zulus

I would be sad to see any of these civs not in the game.
Anything extra (and there I imagine there is!) is a bonus!

                        Civilization 2 had 21 factions:

                        Americans
                        Aztecs
                        Babylonians
                        Carthaginians
                        Celts
                        Chinese
                        Egyptians
                        English
                        French
                        Germans
                        Greeks
                        Indians
                        Japanese
                        Mongols
                        Persians
                        Romans
                        Russians
                        Spanish
                        Sioux
                        Vikings
                        Zulus

It would be sad to see a Civ game without most of these (Perhaps Zulus and Sioux excepted).

In my opinion, Civ2 was the zenith of Civdom.

Civ3's 3 incarnations had 31 (32) civs total. I would like to see most of these at some point. Maybe in an expansion or 7?

                          Civ3 (16)

                          Americans
                          Aztecs
                          Babylonians
                          Chinese
                          Egyptians
                          English
                          French
                          Germans
                          Greeks

                          *Iroquois
                          Japanese
                          Persians
                          Romans
                          Russians
                          Zulus

                          C3: PTW (8)

                          *Arabs
                          Carthiginians

                          Vikings

                          C3: C (7/[8])

                          *(Austrians)
                          *Byzantines

                          *Hittites
                          *Incans
                          *Mayans
                          *Portuguese
                          *Sumerians

I'm NOT sad to see the Zulu go, and I wouldn't mind if they finally did history justice and replaced the Aztec with the Maya. But other than that, I agree

I concur with Locutus. If there is to be only one Mesoamerican civ, it should be the Mayans. Let the Aztecs come in an expansion if they must.

As for the Zulus, let them be in a British Empire scenario or something.
