Open it with NotePad. Then, when saving, save it as a file of no particular type. That should do the trick.

That helps, thanks. The file now gets saved with the helmet icon. However, it doesn't load properly and the game crashes before it finishes loading. That's probably because I don't know which "team" information to erase.

Anyways, I shouldn't have to be struggling with this. If I want to play on Earth with 12 civilizations, or, 13, or 9, I should be able to choose the civilizations I want from a menu.

Agreed...this is the only thing I don't like about this map. It's a mod, and so I have to play with the default 18 civs whether I like it or not. I'd like to use it with the SuperCiv mod and let the game choose the leaders at random from the (currently) 62 choices in that mod.
