did you use bmp's for building this map (like in the mapmaking pdf) and if so, can you post them?

I"m working on it Nikolai, but I'm stuck at square one. I can't even get a test to work with the bmp converter. Ugh...
Whenever I start up a game on a test map I made it just says I was defeated right away and the game ends. I can't even get into the in-game world builder, cause the game ends right away.Captain of Team Apolyton - ISDG 2012

smellymummy, I already asked him, he said they are proprietary information.
And Nikolai, Rhye also told me that he is taking a break from civ for a bit, so don't expect any smaller versions of the map anytime soon. Its up to us.
As soon as I can figure out the damn converter I'll get one made.Captain of Team Apolyton - ISDG 2012

Michlo, while your concern is a valid one... that kind of attitude isn't the nicest or best way to approach it.
I'm sick of people expecting flawless software on release, people have scheduals and time frames to work to. You sound like someone who's never had a a demanding job where deadlines come and go like nobodies business.
Im sure they're trying to fix the issue for us ASAP. Learn a bit of patience... the world doesnt revolve around us.
What MarkG was trying to point out, perhaps, was altho they realised the large maps were having issues on some spec systems they couldnt fix it in time for launch. If they put in a large earth map knowing this bug, it would be like them ENCOURAGEING people to play the large maps when they are having problems. In its current build... NOT releasing the world map on such a size was a GOOD decision. Sure we'd all love one... and stable large maps too...
Wildly lashing out at the first person to defend the developers is a childish thing to do no matter how old you are. While I don't like the fact it is the way it is... I accept the fact that sometimes life isnt perfect ... play a smaller map... do some multiplayer fun... there are options to do while we wait... its not as tho this game will date either... I've been playing civ2 still :P
Anyway just my 5 cents.

it seems that somebody has tried to make a smaller Earth map based on mine.
His attempt of reverse engineering seems quite good

i simply took a screenshot of the first post in this thread and did a little photoshop work on that minimap.
i also mimicked resource placement as on your map, and added civs and goody huts, etc, for an end result of a 'little smaller 18 civ earth map':
this is a slightly smaller earth map, based off of rhye's 18 civ earth map. there's a few less rivers, and resource placement is done like on rhye's map. civ placement is somewhat exact (england starts in england, etc) also, when i was making the map, i had a little fun and opened up a...
i'll be posting it on poly as well

Ok from my playing of this map on my pc, I've encountered no problems ... I'm up to the year 2000 and I have the entire map revealed... I wish I could say I haven't had problems winning the space race... but i look doomed in that regard. A few jelous neighbours of our home brew vodka... seems to have resulted in me unleasing a vast (damn this map is nice and big) war across europe... they'll rue the day they stabbed me in the back
Thanks heaps for this map, it will keep me playing for hours on end!

Most people trip on my rig when they realise I could have purchased a car for what I spent on it. But hey I make good money and I'm worth it.
Anyway, you may want to try some system tweaks. Such as increase your system cache and optimise for applications as well as stop all extra services and trun off all system effects that are not needed. Additionally assign the application to "real-time" and make sure your HDD is defragged.

In this scenario (and/or Civ4 in general), how do I mod the start unit at 4000bc to give Germany a Warrior rather than a Scout to begin the game?
I've been searching thru the XML's and such and am struggling to find it. Any help is much appreciated.

Then, delete corresponding team info as well.
Then, delete the "StartingPlot" line from the coordinates shown in the player data of the civs you have deleted.
delete corresponding team info as well. Don't delete the plot! Delete just the word "Starting Plot", which you can find at the plots coordinates!
It's easier to do than to explain.
Open the standard Earth map WBS and see the differences with this.
Your first instruction is to open the WBS, which I think means World Builder Save file. Ok, there are 2 ways to open this that I know of. I can left-click, which loads the file into cIV and starts up the game .exe, which I don't want to do; or I can right-click which allows me to choose what program to load it into. To edit a file, I am going to use a text editor such as Wordpad, because I don't know any other way of editing a file. Then, I follow your instructions, erasing the relevant lines. Then, I try to save it, but of course, I can only save it as a text file, which will not be recognized by cIV when I try to load it.
So if there is another program that I should be using to edit the file, please tell me what it is called. I have tried learning how to use the WorldBuilder that came with cIV, but it doesn't do anything I want it to. There doesn't appear to be any way to add or delete civilizations using WorldBuilder. I even read the .pdf instructions which don't say anything about this.

Those who do not do so will be forced, in their next game, to play a power directly between Catherine and Montezuma.
