but there's precedent. the mongols were a barbarian camp in civ3vanilla, and became a nation in civ3ptw.

BTW WWI wasn't ever going to be won by the Germans. They where doomed. They would have folded first even if the USA stayed pernamently neutral. BTW again despite that the 20th Century was like one big nonstop war it did end up rather well, didn't it?

since when they were doomed? when the first trenches were duck? when von Schlieffen died in 1913? because they didn't start all out submarine war in august 1914?.....
well what they did, they managed to fight a two front war for over three years before peace of brest-litovsk, sure they would have kicked Allied ***** after that without the americans. in beginning of 1918 Germans started to advance again, but were stopped and turned back by american help to Allies.

and yes, 20th century ended pretty well, but it could have ended even better.

and yes, demoncracy is a bad thing. the most wise should rule.

But who is to determine who is the most wise? That's the problem. I am sure you pulled that from classical literature with the whole "philosopher king" idea, but that is one of those forms of government like communism, in where its great in theory, bad in practice. I still think the democratically-elected republic is the best thing we got going now, no matter how flawed it is, if you are a student of history, you have a much greater appreciation of the life you can live in one of the western democracies compared to the governments of the past.

And on topic, this game really needs some of the "arabia" area civs, like the persians, babylonians and such.

where I did get the idea, well lets not get to that.
"philosoher-king idea" have never been used in practise so we don't know.
"philosopher-king idea" don't have anything to do woth communism.

You don't include America , its a marketing mistake (they are THE market , after all ) . You don't include the Indians , its a historical miskake (we were around like for like fifteen times as long as modern America . We are also the world's largest democracy .)

I just watched the movie ' an Indian in the capborad ' and I was thinking: if there's any native Americans still alive, they wouldn't want USA to represent them. No offence, but USA is European orientated, she doesn't fit into an America civilisation.
And as usual no Italians in any of the civ games. They are not Romans at all and they are great. (Columbus, Leonardo, Dante to name a few). I want the Italians and they can have the power of mafioso or some'ing.
Also, it's not just USA, it's the whole democratic/captalist world who's bombing everything else to non-existentce. Sure USA didn't bomb USSR physically, but they bombed Korea and Vietnam. And before that, Germany already bombed Russia hard enough. USSR start all over again after both world wars, where USA grew fatter on both occasions, and USSR could still compete. Don't you think communism kind of works ?
And outside of the western world, there are three major powers, Arabs, Indians and Chinese. Britain/USA created Israel for Arabs,. Pakistan for Indians and Taiwan for Chinese, great stradegy. And people think USA is the greatest nation in the world.
Ai, I'm too off-topic. Arabs and Indians should unite themselves first, otherwise there will be people who think they are not 'A nation', and Italians, they'll never be a nation on the world map.
