    • My housemate has got this on preorder.

Moreover I just learned that he has never played the original two.

I will have to rectify this. I think my cousin has them, for PC. My housemate has an iMac, but we may be able to get my rusty old 95 computer working...

      • Guynemer, it uses the oblivion engine, yet is released much later, I am sure if your computer can run oblivion it will be fine, I expect Fallout 3 to be better optimized.

        • Not so. While the engine does get further optimization and development, of course, Fallout 3 is still more demanding than Oblivion. System requirements reflect that as well. It isn't just about the engine, it's important to note what resolution textures the game uses, model detalization, shader complexity and a bunch of other stuff. Hey, Civ4 also runs on the Oblivion engine but requires considerably less graphical processing power, for instance.

          • Oh. Well I upgraded my computer for age of conan(ROT IN THE PUSS GUZZLING BOWELS OF BLOODY HELL!), so I am not worried.

              • Well, sure, a comp that ran Oblivion smoothly on all high will run Fallout 3... but a comp that ran Oblivion smoothly, albeit on Low, probably won't.

                • Ok, it's a new word for me. I don't do much 3D modeling. You're talking about scalability.

I'm not sure about this one. The engine looks roughly the same to me. I'm pretty sure if you could run Oblivion smoothly on low settings, you can run Fallout 3 on low settings too, with maybe a few hiccups now and then due to the added features. I don't think it would be a serious issue.

Won't be an issue for me, I can run Crysis on full.

I hope to pick up the game up tomorrow.

I don't think so. Oblivion's textures on low settings, for one, are "worse" than Fallout's textures on low settings, one would assume, therefore, less video memory is used by Oblivion. But that hardly matters now.

IGN gave it 9.6, gotta love it. Their opinion matters May finally be some competition for GOTY.

                      • Hmmmm, very very tempted to go get this (D2D I assume... or Steam if not I guess). It's been a long while since I played a good open-ended RPG - Morrowind really...

                        • It's definitely available on Steam, not sure about D2D. I picked up my hard copy at lunch today, but since I have plans tonight I won't be able to play it till tomorrow evening.

                          • Yep, available, 49.95 no tax (so still slightly cheaper in Chicago at least than the console versions on early-release sales). Though that collectible version (with the little boy statue) does look cute ... but probably the statue is not worth $20 plus tax on $70...
