Indeed, I've stopped looking around at video cards - with Civ4 taking up all my gaming time (not to mention my pre-2005 backlog) what would be the point?

I'm not sure whether to get it for PC or spring for a 360. My laptop meets the minimum requirements only and my desktop box is old and would likely need a new video card at minimum. But I don't really want to buy a new console either.

My copy (360 collectors) was delivered at 4:27 PM today. Sadly, I'm out of town and won't be back until Friday, at which point I have to unpack, repack and head right back out of town on a college visit with the kid, get back on Sunday, unpack, repack and leave town for work for another week on Sunday night.

This whole "real life" thing is most definitely getting in the way of my gaming!!!

What are you talking about Kinjiru. "Real Life" IS gaming. All that other stuff you do is just so that you can keep on gaming.

Solver, we shall see who is right very soon. Unfortunately, I can't pick up the PC version until 13th Nov. 360 just ain't gonna cut it for me. I need to be able to turn 180 degrees and aim at a single pixel target at an instant.

I almost picked it up here in NYC but I realized it's the same price in Canada and the USA ($59) and Canada's dollar is at like $0.77 now. So it'd be stupid to.

When I get home, I'm going to add this to my pile of "to play" games which now includes Fable II, Rock Band 2, Lego Star Wars ($19!), and Little Big Planet. Soon to include about 3 more games too.

Plus the LOTRO expansion comes out soon.

Speaking of performance. Apparently Fallout 3 has considerably quicker area loading than Oblivion did, and Oblivion's wasn't bad for most areas either.

Fable II is really immersive. My housemate puts it on at 9 am and when I get back from work he's like "Hey Ali, I've got three new wives and a husband and eight more kids and I now own everything in three villages and a gypsy encampment! ^_^ " and I'm like "Dude, you haven't even seen sunlight for 48 hours have you?" and he's like "What is this sunlight you speak of, lol? ^_^ " and I'm like "Never mind. I hope you like broccoli for dinner. WhatEVVVer." Fable 2 also has a dog, which appeals to anybody who liked Dogmeat in the Fallout games.

Rock Band 2 is much more my kind of game. It's basically an expansion to Rock Band 1 but they made the XBox achievements less arduous to get and they put in a failsafe when you do your band selection, so a drunken bandmate fingering the frets won't accidentally select or deselect stuff. We're still playing on RB1 equipment and it works fine. I've heard the RB2 instruments are even better.

Lego Star Wars is really simplistic and pretty linear but it's good harmless fun, with a fair bit of replay value. The scene where Vader tells Luke about his father is very amusing. (Not least because the game has no dialogue so it's all pantomimed out.)

All the Lego games are the same, but they're terrific fun for the SO.

I agree. I think the Lego games are a superb example of how you can get a good marriage of two great franchises. It can't have been cheap (both Star Wars and Lego can pretty much dictate a huge licensing price) but when you get just the right ones, it's awesome fun... and sales go through the roof as well.

Played a bit last night, just beyond the opening section ... as a non-FPSer, this game is **** hard (on Normal) (after the opening section, of course). If I don't use VATS, I'm pretty much screwed.

I definitely would like more of a Mass Effect style movement system (auto-ducking into cover) ... I miss that a lot. Unless I'm missing how to do that ...

From what I've read, it seems I'll be able to run it on Medium on my PC, which is basically on par with X360 graphics, but I do prefer mouse/keyboard and potential mods, so I'm going to try the PC. And if its too slow... well, I guess it isn't too long until some good deals on graphic cards hit for the Christmas season.

If I ever play video games again, will my x800xl be able to run this? (I actually got the overheating problems solved that I was complaining about many months ago in the tech forum)

I'm not certain. I don't know if the X800s are on the supported chipset list. Just for your info, my computer has an 8800GT video card, with an LCD monitor whose native resolution is 1440x900, and the auto-detect on Fallout 3 set that resolution, all detail sliders to max, 4x AA and 8x AF when it ran.
