Technically, you can finish it non-lethally - there's a glitch that allows you to progress without killing that one person. Though yeah, by design you must kill the person.
Cool. Didn't know about that. However, by nonlethal, I also prohibit knocking them out.

It can still be done. It'd be hard as hell, but possible.

Yeah, you can actually get out of there without knocking them out. I believe I saw vids a couple of years ago. But I'm not sure if it classifies as "cool" since it's a glitch and not game design

That's a pretty broad definition. I think my character was capable of knocking people out without risk of death.

Actually, was there such a thing as knocking out with risk of death? IIRC, using the baton would never result in a fatality.

The point is that you play the game without killing or knocking out (since knocking out is really no different than killing, they never get back up). It requires a lot of running. Kind of like playing the game as Dr. Who. But there is one character you have to kill to advance the gameplay, as far as I know.

Deus Ex is awesome LotM, enjoy and thanks for Dr.Spike pushing me in its direction years back(I only got around to it recently....but it was worth the wait).

You wont find many better modern FPS thinking-mans games.

When you knock characters out they never get up, but that doesn't mean it's the same. If you immerse yourself in the game, you can certainly consider it to be different - I did, it's a moral choice after all. Besides, dialogue reactions from characters are different based on whether you knock people out or kill them, on certain occasions.

What a great game though It has several moments that are among my overall favorites.

Now I read that Deus Ex is becoming free soon, apparently.

How does the Gametap thingie work? I sorta don't trust them...

Beyond the morals, it's also about making it a bit more challenging for future playing. Knowing that you need to find a way around them, not through them.

                              theres 3 levels of gametap.

1 is you play casual arcade type stuff free online, no sign up, no money, you get banner ads.

2 is free gametap subscriber. You get access to DL a lot of games of all types and genres - but Ive only heard of a handful. In fact the only ones that really stick in my mind are Deus Ex, and Daikatana As a free subscriber you register, get a username (im lordofthemark, surprise, if anyone from here is there) and password, and can DL a game to your HD, but it checks in with the system to run, and you watch an ad before you start (each time you play) Apparently you cant play without being on the net, but those who know more about this kind of thing can explain more.

                              3. You can become a gold member - for $10 a month (first month $1) or $60 a year. Then you get LOTs of GOOD games, including various HOMMs, a couple of Combat Missions, Civ4, and just in general a lot of PC "gaming goodness".

Im number 2, a free subscriber, though I must say #3 looks tempting. In the past $60 a year is about all I have spent on games, so Id either have to decide to spend more, or decide I would only play games on gametap - since they dont have Paradox titles, that would be problematic.

Not much AFAIK. I have the GOTY edition and it seems to be identical except it comes fully patched.
