The Altera Centauri collection has been brought up to date by Darsnan. It comprises every decent scenario he's been able to find anywhere on the web, going back over 20 years.

Now I don't really agree with LotM (as per previous posts on these issues) but he definitely got you.
Do you honestly think its the same games month after month? Just WOW and the Sims?

This is a bit of a golden oldie on these forums.
And as I think we've said over and over again, the answer is it depends. How many PCs do you have, do you need another one. How many (decent) TVs do you have and how many people do you share it/them with? What other games do you like to play (for ex if you like recent RTS you need a vid card anyway, but if you like console only games you need a console anyway)
And while its true the Xbox is cheap now, so are PC video cards.

I see what you're getting at, but on my computer I can do everything, whereas on a console I can't. And I don't need to share it with other people in the room
what card was it?

A bit OT on Bioshock:
I've already stated this elsewhere about Bioshock but the developers turned it into a true console game. I loved to play the game. The game design and the entire concept were fantastic, but there was just so little challenge in it. Short levels, respawning and weak monsters are a few of the most conspicuous points that ruined the 'challenge' for me.
I remember playing System Shock 2 while feeling highly uncomfortable about having but a few rounds left, and frantically trying new ways to survive. Bioshock never gave me that feeling. The player is seldom 'required' to take a different approach, despite the differing options for the player. No point in taking a subtle approach when I can fubar the level with me guns blazing.
A game has to be something I feel satisfied about when finishing it. In Bioshock on the other hand, in hindsight, I was primarily tempted to play on because I wanted to see more of the level designs, the story etc. And in the end I didn't even finish the last level iirc. Should get to that one of these days
PS: I know the auto-respawning could be turned off, only found out late in the game unfortunately.
Play on hard if the fights are too easy. The fights were equally easy in SS2 though. Both games are predominantly about the story and are equally great at that, with Bioshock using the technological improvements since SS2 to create an even more compelling world.

No, but that isn't the point. You keep posting PC charts as evidence of vibrancy, but when you look at the levels sold (outside of the exceptions usually identified) they are pretty small. The fact there are some different games selling a few copies each month is not what you should be posting to make your case; rather you should be picking out those individual games that do well despite not being the Sims/WoW etc, just to see what excuse certain posters will come up with to explain the sales.
Oh, it's also worth pointing out just how much WoW owns all the console games put together. GoW2 sold something like 1.5m in November, which is really impressive.

The WoW expansion sold more than that in one day.
You're not confusing NPD sales (US) with worldwide sales are you?
The shame...
Gears of War 2 sold over 3 million copies in November.
I'm pretty sure Halo 3 still holds the record for most video games sold in 24 hours, BTW.

I very clearly said Halo 3, which sold much more than Halo 2 in 24 hours.

Halo 3 sold $170M copies in 24 hours, which translates to 2.83 million copies.
If it had the same installbase of 360s today, it'd be even higher.
It also cost more than Lich King.

I don't think so - I saw WoW numbers for the US in excess of 1.5m.
But in any case the one-day (worldwide or US) sales of Lich King were impressive for a dead platform.

I wonder if LOTM knows he is just reinforcing the prevailing position that PC gaming is more or less dead aside from niche games and MMORPGs.

That's approx 5 million copies in 1 week. What was Lich King's?
