EA is very confused. Apparently they are bringing back Madden for the PC.

The point is I'm not sure it matters.
Call of Duty 4 was freely available to pirate on the PC and its sales are still holding strong.
The argument that PC ports cut into console version sales is not at all evident, regardless of if there's confounding variables."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Not a vote of confidence in PC gaming, but a good example of just how difficult the MMOG sector is to crack. I still think a lot of devs think it's just an excuse to print money?
"The only MMO's I've ever played were SWG and Phantasy Star Online. In SWG people stayed away from PVP like the plague because it was infested with 1337 kiddies and was just a colossal waste of trash talk and time and full of constant griefing."
from the comments after the article, about sums up my whole feeling on these games and that extends to on-line mp on console also, from my experience of it.

Many people bought CoD4 to play online, although even that protection can still be circumvented"An archaeologist is the best husband a women can have; the older she gets, the more interested he is in her." - Agatha Christie

An interview with Carmack:
TG: You're making a push on the consoles now. Is part of that because of the threat of piracy on the PC or is it more about getting the games to as many people as possible?
JOHN CARMACK: Well, it's hard to second guess exactly what the reasons are. You can say piracy. You can say user migration. But the ground truth is just that the sales numbers on the PC are not what they used to be and are not what they are on the consoles. Certainly, piracy is a contributor to that. I also think a lot of the people that bought PC games have bought consoles and are happy with them. We still think the PC is a market worth supporting, but we're not making decision around the PC. It's probably more of the junior partner in the cross-platform strategy, although obviously, our day-to-day development is predominately on the PC.

I think he is having a classic Luke+Darth "I'm your father" moment about all this
And interestingly I spoke to a guy from a big AAA publisher recently and on the subject of copy protection(I was giving him a hard time about using SecuRom as it can mess up your hardware) he told me that that particular copy protection had been broken on day one of a big release, so I asked him,
"why bother spending money on this kind of thing if A) It can penalise a legitimate customer and B) it gets voided so quickly"
He didn't have an answer for me, but I could see him thinking about it, which I took as a good sign - I might be tempted back to some of my favourite game franchises if they do the 'right thing' next time.
But yeah Piracy is the big issue for PC gaming, and part of the reason for the decline in titles/releases/good ports etc.
Here's a fun looking RPG game for PC(windows+linux) and Mac(got a demo too) :

About a merger between Blizzard and AMD/ATI.
Now not that I think this would be a problem, but do these kind of deals do PC gaming good or harm? It's obviously good for the companies involved(extra money).
Does it possibly add to the instability/ backwards compatibility/ performance issues that have driven many PC gamers to use their consoles as the main game playing platform?
