The first levels are definately worth replaying on Heroic and Legendary, especially in coop.

Matchmaking, OTOH, is down for me. Surely MS should have realized by now that they'd have a LOT of traffic today? It's not like it's hard for them to get more servers...

    • so tonight I tried and failed to purchase a 360 and halo

We were trying to use the best buy plan that I linked in the console wars thread-buy a samsung dlp, get a free 360, zero% interest, but....of course, the phone lines or whathaveyou are down so can't get processed. leave dejected at 8:55 after waiting 45 minutes. will wife still allow purchase tomorrow????

      • Daily Game review (http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrank...eviewid=809727):

In addition, many of the levels feel uncomfortably similar to levels in Halo 1 and Halo 2, particularly toward the end of the game. Yes, that means there's a Library-like level. Yes, that means there's a frozen Halo environment. Yes, that means there's a Flood-infected ship whose hallways players must navigate repeatedly. And yes, that even means the last level of the game is a pseudo-timed mission in which you drive the Warthog through a crumbling structure. There's a fine line between paying homage and cobbling together elements of your own portfolio. Bungie crosses that line during the final hours of Halo 3.
They also say it feels like the same single player game from 2001, plus a couple new weapons like the flamethrower.

But somewhere in Bungie's laser-like focus on multiplayer, they lost sight of the narrative excellence that made the first two Halo games so compelling. Bungie also relied far too much on six-year-old gameplay experiences, resulting in a game that, for better or worse, feels like something we've been playing since November 2001.

        • Is "Daily Game" some kind of site that anyone cares about?

Though kudos to you: still on the case! Searching any and all reviews you can find on the web with something negative to say. Even from the rinkydink sites no one's heard of with atrocious web designs. I see you found it by looking at the lowest review score the game was given on GameRankings. 8.8, oooo....

And they still gave it a good score.

          • What exactly about their review is hard to believe? Nothing in it is contradicted by any other review. You are insane if you think Halo 3 is a fresh single player experience. It is just not, why deny it? You can point to what...new weapons and shiny graphics? That is all that has improved.

            • Halo 3=a overhyped-to-the-limit rake-in-the-money game fanboys will advocate to the death Its been done before Even the best reviews have nothing good to say. Same old, same old. But i must admire the scale of the hyping...ad's for the game have been everywhere on tv. Only rock people wouldnt know about halo3 by now.

I was watching the halo3 countdown on spike. I think some of those fans need professional help, esspecialy the guy spending the whole day in a halo3 suit. ''no i havnt been in bed with it but i think she is coming around to it''
if you want to stop terrorism; stop participating in it

''Oh,Commissar,if we could put the potatoes in one pile, they would reach the foot of God''.But,replied the commissar,''This is the Soviet Union. There is no God''.''Thats all right'' said the worker,''There are no potatoes''

              • Campaign is fun enough since I'll be playing splitscreen or online coop. Only played a couple games online, so I haven't got to all the maps yet. Which ones were carried over from Halo 1 and 2? Any? Any Halo 3 maps that are clearly a cut above the rest?

Asher, you are being disingenuous here: lots of reviews have made similar points - the IGN one also pointed out mentioned a really annoying level (I'm guessing the library clone level) and that the meat of the game was MP.

Clearly the impressive looking MP has driven a lot of the high marks so it would seem a valid point to suggest the game offers more to those into both SP and MP compared to those into SP alone.

                        • The meat of Halo has always been the MP. I don't know why it's news?

I didn't say a damn thing about "fresh". In single player it's a FPS in the Halo universe. It's expected that it'll feel a lot like the single player in Halo 1 and Halo 2. That's kind of the point. Some people will say that's a bad thing, but I don't think so -- if you want to change up the gameplay, do it in the next Halo when it's not completing the trilogy.

As I've said, repeatedly, the SP of Halo 3 is a continuation of Halo 1 and Halo 2. Complaining about its "freshness" is missing the point completely.
