Bioshock started with a Metacritic score of 98 and is now down to 96. The user score has dropped to 9.0.
Halo 3 is at 96 right now, but I predict it to drop a little as reviewers become aware of problems that aren't noticed in the first few hours of gameplay. The user score for Halo 3 is 8.2 - based on about 100 more votes than Bioshock received.I never know their names, But i smile just the same

Honestly, it sounds to me like some bitter Metroid Prime 3 and PS3 fans voting. There's no way it can be 8.2 after so many votes unless a huge number of them were 0/1...Originally posted by mactbone

Too focused on multiplayer.. Graphics look like Halo 2.5.. sound problems.. NPC's gets stuck and AI bugs.. Boring singleplayer, cannot compare to Halo 2. Biggest disappointment of my life..Getting rid of my 360 now.

You cite the glowing reviews, and when others cite less glowing ones they are i) written by idiots, ii) biased against Halo 3 or iii) trying to drum up support for their site.
You cite metacritic (or equivalent) scores, but when they turn against you the votes must have been cast by PS3 fans.
And you haven't even played the game - it really looks like dogma rather than rational (if a tad exuberant) analysis, which is where you started.
I'm off now to form my own opinions.

It does help when all 3 of these conditions are obviously satisfied by the reviews. This isn't exactly rocketscience. Hundreds of people have voiced anonymous reviews. Most of the ones with comments are 9/10, then the average is 8.2. Do you know mathematics? If it's like almost every other site out there, there's a lot of 1s, a lot of 10s, and few inbetween. I'd love to see the distribution, but of course they don't show them.

It is obvious some people will give Halo 1s, but then fanboys also give it perfect 10s. What is important is that a good number of users and professional reviewers agree that Halo is an unfortunate retread of its predecessors, with the obvious benefits (graphics, more sounds) of being on a more powerful console.
Halo 1 was pretty good, maybe 9.5/10 level, because it launched the next gen with great graphics and controls. Halo 2 was just more of the same. Halo 3 is more of the same with updated graphics (and omfg new weaponsz!!). The hype should be going downwards, not upwards.
Is it worth buying? Sure, if you like multiplayer. Is it a 98%++ game that stands head and shoulders above all other games on the console? Of course not.Comment
