There is none, per se. There is a flood level that is, if you can imagine, [i]even worse[i]. Picture a Library where it's impossible to see where you're supposed to go 90% of the time.

        • Eh, got my reserved copy last night, played the first two levels. Fun, but really just more of the same. That being said I was sick yesterday and probably was not in the proper mood, I expect I will warm up to it.

In any case, the control scheme has changed somewhat. Some more options they squeezed in there with a little rearranging. My hands are programed from almost six years of deathmatch, the changes are really annoying.

            • Ming, he's posting spoilers in a thread about the game that he knows most people haven't had a chance to play yet.

              Edit his comment at least.

It's not personal, it just really pisses me off. I think the comment is more than warranted.

                Also, Asher:

As I've said, repeatedly, the SP of Halo 3 is a continuation of Halo 1 and Halo 2. Complaining about its "freshness" is missing the point completely.
If you're willing to admit Halo 3 is nothing new, that's a start.

Now all you need to do is realize that a game can continue a trilogy without recycling pretty much everything from six year old games. It can include an imaginative and exciting ending...it can include varied levels that we haven't seen ten times before. It can add "wow" moments similar to but not exact clones of ones from Halo 1 and 2 -- e.g. the introduction of the flood, the first time you get a vehicle, etc. It can add cool new plot elements, like when Bungie's Marathon 2 introduced you to some of the AIs you'd heard so much about.

It's possible to faithfully continue the trilogy while adding interesting stuff like the previous game. Halo 3 just punts, rehashing the same tricks from the other games with 360 quality graphics.

If you can admit that, good. If you think that's a good thing, oh well.

It has new graphics, new sound, new levels, new weapons, new features, new story, new enemies, new AI...nothing new? No, why would I "admit" that?

What did Halo 2 add, out of curiosity?

It's gameplay innovations were incremental just like Halo 3's are.

And that's how it should be. If you don't want a Halo game, don't buy Halo. 14 million times people have decided they want a Halo game, so why mess with that.

                  • Several million people also saw Spider man 3. Why mess with that. Because it was crap. Are we not allowed to have discussions trashing movies anymore, if they're popular?

Halo 2 didn't add much either, but at least you played a different character for a while. That shows a spark of creativity, and even that's not in 3.

It has new graphics, new sound, new levels, new weapons, new features, new story, new AI...nothing new? No, why would I "admit" that?
Because you already admitted Halo 3 isn't fresh. New levels are not fresh if they remind you of ones from the previous games, only worse. New graphics wear off, and doesn't save gameplay. Same with sound. The AI does not understand bubble shields and has a few new tricks.

It is stale. I really wish you had experienced the jump from Bungie's other game Marathon 1 to 2. It was the same universe, with a much more involving plot and new characters and entirely new environments added. It was a great sequel. Alliances shifted, and you had to accomplish different tasks for different races, and all of them were badass. It didn't just "add new guns" and some technical improvements, though of course those were there too.

That was the worst part of Halo 2, incidentally. And least well-received part. That's why they didn't do it again, I'd think.

Because you already admitted Halo 3 isn't fresh.
I said I didn't use the word "fresh". I think Halo 3 is fresh, considering the new MP features especially. I think the SP is fresh due to the tweaks made to the weaponry, enemies, equipment abilities, and AI -- not to mention story.

I don't consider the SP revolutionary, because, well, it shouldn't be.

                      It is stale.
A 97% metacritic rating is stale. Okay.

You don't understand something very simple. Halo 1, 2 and 3 are 3 parts of the same game. It follows, therefore, that the gameplay will remain largely identical. It also follows that some of the levels will having passing similarities with previous ones because, well, it's the same enemy -- why would their architecture change substantially?

You're just being critical to be critical. You haven't played the game, you've crawled GameRankings to find the worst scores it was given (which were STILL good games), then you're nitpicking and whining about something you've not experience.

You're out of your element. You can't whine about something you haven't played.

(You've lost here. A long time ago.)

As long as you agree this game that everyone is buying and has the most hype of any game ever has a pretty unoriginal single player game,

No it does not! Logic 101. The gameplay could offer new experiences, like how vehicles were cool the first time in the first game. From 2001.

                          • He really doesn't. It's a mediocre sci fi plot against a dumb AI with a few new bells and whistles and a crap ton of recycled ones. Nothing to see there.

BUT ITS OK ITS TEH SAME THING FOR A THIRD TIME ITS A TRILOGY.
