  • sad people don't know how to use warlocks in instances. Not that I have that much experience with mine in instances. Some just don't know what kind of pet to use. but the last thing you want is mobs on you. Even if you are affliction.

My warlock is affliction, and I'm sure i'll pull aggro if I go all out. I just dish out too much damage.

Anyways wipes do happen. especially the lower level instances. Practice with them does help. And I was a bit scared off instances too with my first horrible experience with my hunter in Shadowfang Keep. I'm sure I mentioned the party leader created a raid group. . I didn't know what that meant at the time, but when we got to the book of ur we couldn't get it. And we still wiped later on despite all those people. . It was confusing because I didn't know my way around, all the twists and turns were hard to remember. And it was scary in the stairs because I couldn't get Line of Sight and 8 yards out to use my bow, had to melee.

    • Eh, a good tank should allow an affliction Warlock to go all out. In fact, an Affliction lock shouldn't be high on the threat meters on nonBoss fights.

What server are you on where you find those in abundance?

Tanking isn't easy, and it takes a great amount of experience to be good at it. Yes a good tank should be able to hold the mobs. However the other members of the party need to do their part to not pull aggro over the tank. If your tank is a bit nubish let them get a few sunders/mauls/a consecrate, whatever the case may be, before you do unload.

          • Argent Dawn is my server.

I saw my roommate play some (ex roommate now), and he is a 70 affliction (generally) warlock. Also, when I was a tank we did pretty good I think.

            • Affliction locks do draw agro if they dot multiple mobs, if the tank is AoE happy (and I tend to think in terms of AoE, it goes Paladin > Druid > Warrior) then it's safe to probably put a single dot on the mobs which aren't being actively tanked (CoA being particularly good), but dot stacking will certainly get the attention of some mobs.

Essentially being an affliction lock in a group is figuring out what you can get away with, you'll easily draw agro if you try (of course non-affliction can too, but affliction is just so easy to mass spam dots).

Fortunately locks are pretty durable for casters so causing slightly too much agro isn't a huge problem, you also have the power to turn off curse of agony by casting another curse (ie weakness) so the tank can easily get the mob back.

How much you can get away with does depend on the tank and how good they are at laying damage onto multiple mobs, paladins with mass damage reflection are great, swipe spam for a bear is easy, warriors are harder they have to stance-dance or switch targets a lot, but they have good potential.

Hmm, that's interesting Jon Miller, Argent Dawn was also my server, though on the alliance side. Small world I guess, even in WoW

If you plan on tanking any more put 3/3 survival of the fittest, tanks should have a 5% reduction in chance to be crit so no mobs can crit them. Beartanks get it from that talent plus enough defense to reduce chance to be crit by 2%.

Tanking at end game is different than tanking while leveling. Tank with mages and warlocks with nearly 1k spell damage, it's not as easy.

                  • now this is just wrong and sick, of course I don't like gnomes so...

unfortunately the screen shot missed the emote. How do you get those specialized emotes?

this is what the emote (in orange text said): Ameliandre grabs the back of his head and pushes it against her ***** harder and harder.

omfg!!. I happened to be jumping off water falls, as I hadn't been to the top of that water fall. I had my shield on, but I still almost died. Only a sliver of health. These 2 thought they were in a private area. lol. little did they know I like to explore. I started to head back a little for a screen shot, only after I took the screen shot did that emote come up.

and yes this is my priest, I figure I might as well round out all 9 classes. Alliance even.

                      • I'll have to try that, maybe not that particular emote. at least not in public

Alliance are all pervs I'm thinking. I never saw this on the horde side. No one ever thinks about having sex with a Tauren.

Though my BE females (pally and warlock) do get some interesting whispers and emotes. They are smokin'. This human isn't too bad either. I also have a female troll, no one wants to lick her . .

I suppose if I played with it, I could push it farther and do this kind of wow sex. But that's just weird knowing it's a guy on the other end. Even if it's a female char, as I play several female chars. Same thing with regular internet chat sex. I can't do it unless I know it's a woman on the other side.

I am well aware of that. As I said, I am currently in a leveling build. I can still tank in it though.

                          • messing around with the priest. Has to be the hardest class to play. If not impossible . At least for me. The funny thing is I had a dwarf priest who I managed to get through these levels. Playing a priest solo is painful to say the least. I suppose I'm doing it for the challenge. I spend most of my time running away from mobs because I'm out of mana. It takes 3/4 of my mana to kill something. I'm level 15 right now, and struggling thru all those defias guys in Westfall.

Priests are just weak, weak, weak. I keep hearing how powerful shadowpriests are, but I'm not seeing it. I'm specced shadow btw. Granted, I'm not far enough in the tree to make a difference yet.

Is there a strategy to playing a priest I'm missing?

I was impressed with my ability to clear the gnoll camps near the border with elwynn forest. Basically I just kill one and run. . Then I go after the remaining 2 around the fire. I was a couple levels higher, so I could take on 2 at one time. I usually cast shield on myself, open with either smite or the 1.5 sec shadow spell (can't remember name), then shadow word: pain or whatever it's called. Then smite 1 or 2 more times, then finish beating them down with my staff (don't have a wand yet).

Maybe they get good later on, I used to think rogues were tough, now I realize they are the easiest class to play.

When I get to 20, I'm going to try to avoid solo grinding, and just run dungeons over and over . I'm going to start running Deadmines. And run that 20 or 30 times . Then move on to the next dungeon if I'm high enough level. Playing a priest in a party is nice, solo is not.

Shield yourself, mind blast, shadow word: pain, wand (mindflay here when you have it), wand, wand, wand, wand, reshield yourself and cast a renew when necessary, continue to wand.

That will pretty much be your strategy for every mob until you get some high spell power going.

                              • My Warlock is now level 8 and died for the first time. I was fighting a gnoll and noticed my Imp's health going down, so I made sure to kill off the gnoll as quickly as I could, at about the same time as Gnoll died my imp "died" and I realized that we were actually fighting two Gnolls.

My bad, I hope my Imp will forgive me. I think I had died many more times then once before level 8 with my druid, but I am not sure if I can chalk that up to experience or if warlock's and their minions are really that much more powerful then Druids (keeping in mind that I didn't realize until well after level 8 that I could heal myself during combat, maybe I wouldn't have died so often then ).

                                /me
