  • The more you develop your traits, the more they make a difference. I have 5 deedified traits equipped now and 3 of them at level 3 or 4 already and they definitely feel. So while I agree that all level 10 characters of the same class are pretty much identical, I clearly see at later stages a smart trait choice combined with some serious deed grinding greatly pay off.

Euro servers are down again for 5 hours now. This keeps happening every 3-4 days. Definitely server hosting in this game is abysimal.

I might be tempted to check it out if I could get my hands on a trial key.

The European version comes with a 7 day (IIRC) buddy key, but I gave mine already to a colleague. To my knowledge he hasn't used it yet, though.

And I am not prepared to leave VG just now. Level 34 armorsmith, and I am finally starting to make serious money.

I put my 25 ranger, 25 weaponsmith on ice 4 weeks ago until the game is in a better state. A good indicator will be that rangers get tracking, but that's by far not the only change I expect. If I get back to the game, I likely will reroll completely, or I will use my old weaponsmith to fuel a twink.

      • I don't think you can download it. I gave my colleague the DVD (as it's described), because you don't need it to play.

        • They don't make it available? You could download the beta client...

          • Again login issues.

Issues with logging into the game
We sincerely apologise for the current situation with logging into the game for some users. This currently affects around one third of the player base; we are working intensively to get customers back into the game. If you are affected by this problem please attempt to log in approximately every 20 minutes – this will help us in returning you to middle-earth.

            Many thanks

With such issues occuring nearly every day, this game has by a long shot the worst server hosting I ever encountered in a MMOG. This includes beta testing, by the way.

            • Must be specific to Europe.

I've had zero issues at all over the pond here. Beta and live.

Incompetent Europeans to blame, I'm sure.

              • I haven't had any issues either in the past 4 days I've been playing, although they did have scheduled downtime for maintenance this morning. It's likely either a server issue or internet issue in Europe. I remember a few of those when I was EQing. One time most of the northeastern US couldn't log on because one of the backbone lines failed up there; they couldn't reach any sites hosted on the west coast.

I played A2, and the betas, finally giving up around last November.

The above is the reason why, but its more of a personal preference, I just can't play Themepark MMO's anymore.

                      How do I get traits?

                      • Usually get them by doing deeds (kill xx spider/goblins/etc) or exploring things.

                        • A lot of them require more of something you've already done. Example: if you play an elf, you'll start off in Celondim once you finish the intro instance. There are a lot of wolves down there. Kill 30 wolves in the Ered Luin region (doesn't matter where) and you'll complete the deed that gets you the title of Wolf-Tamer. It'll also unlock a followup deed; kill 60 more wolves in Ered Luin and you'll get one level of some virtue.

There are 4 types of traits: virtues, racial, class and legendary. Virtues come through deeds. Racial ones apply from the chosen race plus some things you do, and some social interaction supposedly gives some. Class ones come from using your class skills a lot (1000 times or more in some cases) or from completing quests at certain levels (like the level 15 quest your trainer will give you once you get to that point). I have no idea how you get legendary traits.

Yup - I have it now. I like this system, actually. Gives you a very good sense of accomplishment.

Unlike the crafting system, which downright sucks
