  • Because ppl, in general, are stupid. That's like rogues being called rouges all the time
Or they're francophones. In French, we say "ménestrel".

          • Back to the minstrel, if you consider, that this game does not have hitpoints, but morale points, and if you run out of those you're not dead, but defeated, the morale increasing or decreasing functions of songs suddenly make sense.

My minstrel is level 27 now, I'm wrapping up quests in the Shire this weekend, for completing deeds and increasing traits. It's kind of a boring grind to oneshot level 8 critters, but hey, I'm used to grinding.

I'm on Morthond by the way, a European server. Shame they don't allow worldwide communities like many other games do.

            • Is the map/world bigger than WoW?
              Can you have pets?
Are there more creatures, terrain types, stuff like that than WoW?

I'd really like a comparison sheet of WoW and LotR Online.

Should I stop my subscription with Blizzard and start with LotR Online?

No by a long shot, but it will eventually be when the whole Middle Earth becomes available (atm only Eriador from the Shire to Rivendell)

Loremasters have real pets. Captains have pets too, although theirs just stand and stare the enemy to death (or watch you die).

Guess they're on a similar level. And the terrain is really beautiful, not as primitive-cartoonish as in WoW.

                  I'd say yes.

After the real start (24th) there's a certain influx of idiots here too, but overall people are MUCH more mature. Probably because this game is not for item d00ds, but mainly for RPers.

                    • Got it yesterday. At the moment i find the UI rather clunky, but i guess when the modpacks come out that'll be fixable. The map is a heap of birdpoo to be honest, I'd prefer an exploration based map like WoW with as much detail as WoW. Can't really use the map to navigate in LOTRO.

                      • The map is exploration based, past the intro quests. I quite like it, especially the map filters...

                        • In the European version the map is heavily bugged. Explored parts disappear again if you log out, leave the current map or enter an instance. I heard it's fixed in the US version, but not for us. Turbine

                          • I might be tempted to check it out if I could get my hands on a trial key. But right now my budget will not accomodate another MMO subscription. And I am not prepared to leave VG just now. Level 34 armorsmith, and I am finally starting to make serious money.

                              • Yes, I got a buddy key last night and started playing. It's too early to give an opinion. The tradeskills seem nice, but I haven't done them enough to render a final verdict. I haven't done enough to get customization through deeds. I really don't like the lack of attribute scores and initial characterization. Every elf guardian will be identical at the beginning, apart from appearance.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.
